[SCD] Flametongue Kavu

flametongue kavu So what is the forum's opinion on this badass lizard? I had a spare slot in Korvold and slapped him in for nostalgia and because in edh, efficacy is secondary to the "cool" factor. But in a land of cupacabras and other etb plus-ultra creatures around, am I just wasting sp...

Re: Playing by your own rules: Suicide deck

I think a better challenge would be a deck engineered to win on <10 life like ol' standard faeries. Doesn't make for an exciting shootout or standoff when someone just blows their own brains out, but it could be cool to kill off everyone else with one hand while holding in the wrecked remnants of yo...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Exquisite Archangel

The five drop only saves you from damage. Exquisite Archangel can technically save you from alternate loss conditions, but not for long unless your issue is taking too much damage.

I.e. trite angel trash is just that, just play platinum angel and get the full effect.

Re: Have you ever forgotten how to pilot your deck?

DirkGently I think there's an argument for commiting to the mastery of a deck. Most edh decks are vastly complex and players are more likely to get bored with deck before they've actually explored the full extent of its potential/nuance. By contrast, people who marry themselves to their decks usual...

Re: Have you ever forgotten how to pilot your deck?

It happens to me most when I switch archetypes too frequently. I have to commit to a playstyle/mode of thinking for a night, otherwise I screw up my pacing something awful.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - iMPACT Resonance

Love this card on paper, never seen it in play. I think the core issue with impact resonance is that it's a value spell disguised as a removal spell. The card does nothing in a vacuum; instead its opportunistic design forces it to be used post-damage on what was likely already a pivotal turn in the ...

Re: Strategies and commanders for higher player count

I would just slam together a UG "play %$#% every turn" deck. Basically look at Prophet of Kruphix and extrapolate that idea to an entire deck. Seedborn Muse, Wilderness Reclamation, Teferi, etc. Sprinkle on some ramp, draw, a few choice mana sinks, and maybe 5-6 extra turn spells just so y...

Re: MtG Father Figures?

Yawgmoth and K'rriK are the best father/son in magic. Looking at their lore, they both built their own societies in isolated realities (Yawg in Phyrexia proper and K'rrik in the time bubble) and they've both got such a cunning focus on the endgame of the family business. They're like evil model trai...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

DirkGently I'm picking up what you're putting down, but I wonder if an extra 2/3 tacked to each member of a wildly underpowered tribe is really as big of a bonus as you're estimating. For example, you're at a table with Kykar, korvold and this minotaur man, are you really worried about this guy? I ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Well, Sethron, Hurloon General is definitely a card to make minotaur tribal work. Unlike the unicorn tbh, which just looks like combo city. I do find it a little...idk...dumb, when they have a tribe that is, for all intents and purposes, not a functional tribe in commander, and then print a command...

@3drinks I don't think you get to decide which cows are sacred by virtue of being one of the minority of beefeaters in India. You sound like a cartoon supervillian sometimes. "The masses are ignorant. I will... educate them. I will devastate their lands, suffocate them under the crumbling ruins...

I'm kind of shocked that Golos isnt an option in the what should be banned question.
I hadn't heard a ton of chatter about it.
Golos gets talked up a lot by the CZ, EDHrecast, etc. I think more people should play pithing needle instead.

Re: Second Annual MTGNexus Commander Climate Survey

For example, I had taken a guy's Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God and then Chaos Wand him hitting his Time Stretch which would've let me win the game by ultimating Nicol Bolas. He then said "You know what. I don't want you winning, so with Time Stretch on the stack I concede." Which not only preve...

Oh, I did think of one other thing I would like changed. If you control another player's permanent and they lose the game, I should be able to keep control of all their permanents I control (as long as it isn't something temporary like Act of Treason ). DirkGently Yeah, Im not a huge fan of strict manafixing either. I'm currently playing only one and two color decks because of how unenjoyable I find that game mechanic to be. Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

prismatic omen is 21 dollars Juzám Djinn is a thousand dollars, but I'm not putting it in my commander decks. Price =/= quality. Fixing in commander is god-tier already. The main draw of this new card is that it taps for 5 (and since that's all colourless, fixing that mana specifically does make a ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Silent Gravestone

I really like Silent Gravestone because it is both an effective hate piece on board and grave hate when popped. Neither option is the best in class, but the flexibility of having two layers of defense against graveyards is quite nice. It's not my first choice for its function, but it's usually secon...
