Re: [Official] IKO Previews in Modern
Mutate: unlikely to be playable due to 2 for 1 potential. May be good enough for Bogles or if a base creature is strong enough on its own. They account for this. When you mutate something, if the target dies, the card simply resolves as if you cast it normally. Big disappointment, and just further ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
I really think Astrolabe does good things for the format. Printing a specific powerful hate card seems fair if such a trade-off is necessary. Alternatively, both of the leading snow decks (urza and bant) abuse Mystic Sanctuary. I still think banning Sanctuary would be completely fair. That being sai...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
I already said Stony Silence effects are devastating against decks that run other artifacts in conjunction with Astrolabe, i.e. SFM and Urza decks. I agree Stony vs Bant Control probably is not worth it; on the other hand, Karn GC is a mainboard card that can severely punish any Astrolabe deck. Not ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
After playing more with the card, I think Astrolabe is exactly the kind of gas fair Modern decks need to keep up. As powerful as it is, Astrolabe definitely comes at a cost, and it is very easy to punish Astrolabe mana decks for it. Getting your Astrolabe destroyed or discarded can be devastating fo...

DRS is quite a lot better than Astrolabe, but I'm not really strictly opposed to unbanning it.

@ktkenshinx that Astrolabe take is a really damn good one. I've been saying Astrolabe should go for a while now but you are probably right that it is kind of a necessary evil.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
I am fairly certain Astrolabe is going the same way as Gitaxian Probe eventually, for similar reasons. It's just way too free. I doubt we're seeing any changes to Modern on Monday though.

Can you T3 Titan off only Explore + Garenbrig? Or do you need an Amulet or Scout as well? I'm not seeing the line

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
I think that Veil and OoAT (and tef3 to not be a massive hypocrite) should just be banned due to being awful, awful designs regardless of whether it would nerf Titan decks enough. After that we could just see whether Titan is still too much.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
We're really in the aftershock of 2019 now it seems. Modern seems very fun and diverse, Amulet seems like the best deck but not oppressive. We just have to put up with these awful designs like OUaT and Veil of Summer just stinking the place up since they're not really objectively bannable.

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)
Even though I enjoy playing Pioneer at FNM myself, I find some joy in the irony of "Pioneer is like Modern but without all the uninteractive combo" turning into "Pioneer is like Modern but with worse interaction"

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
Even if Primeval Titan decks are probably the best decks right now, being the best deck doesn't mean the deck is broken. Although I do think that Modern looking fine right now also has a lot to do with there just not being much competitive interest in it; I feel that if a bunch of pros were tasked t...

Underworld Breach
Underworld Breach I am honestly very surprised this card has not been broken in Modern yet. It's an absurd engine in Pioneer and in Legacy. I guess ironically Faithless Looting and Mox Opal would have actually both gone into the Modern version of this deck? Still, I am quite surprised to not have s...

[Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
Complaining that decks fall out of favour or get banned over the span of a decade is silly. Holding a year as turbulent as 2019 as an example of the average Modern experience is silly.
Btw, I've started almost every decklist I drafted with "4 Snapcaster Mage" for 8 years now.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
I'd be skeptical the blue cantrips and Jitte would improve Modern, but it is "The Great Modern Unban Experiment" and not "The Great Let's Finally Unban Cards We All Know Would Be Fine" after all so I'd like to see that play out. I honestly think just the concept of such a big sha...

Seems to me that you are one of those Johnny big monsters who don't like to be told 'no'. Attitudes like yours are why this format has cards like Oko it that we can't deal with because people with your attitude label anything controlling that locks you out as unfun. If you are locked out by these c...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)
Moon, Bridge and Veil aren't issues because of the decks they are in, they are issues because they are awfully designed obnoxious cards that are not fun to play with. Then the argument comes that fun is subjective but honestly it really isn't; the amount of people who want games to be interactive a...

Does Yawg + Geralf's Messenger go infinite? Am I interpreting this wrong?
Sac Messenger, Undying on the stack, you need to choose a target with Yawgmoth as part of the resolution... can't choose Messenger since it's still in the graveyard?
