Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 11/18/2019)

We've had plenty of good planeswalkers, good does not have to mean busted. 2019 brought us Wrenn and Six, Narset Parter of Veils, Teferi Time Raveler, Karn the Great Creator and Oko Thief of Crowns, and unprecedented line of horribly designed, overly pushed cheap Planeswalkers. I've seen a lot of pe...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 11/18/2019)

I really hate this narrative that now Planeswalkers in general are fundamentally a problem. Planeswalkers are an excellent design space and add to MtG's combat system, which is already its biggest boon over other cardgames IMO. With very few outliers, Planeswalkers have been fine for years, until 20...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 10/21/2019)

I'm gonna make an incredibly unlikely prediction. Tomorrow we will see an unprecedented change: functional errata, turning Oko's +1 into a -1. It would change the economy of paper cards moving forward. It would make the market very unstable because the cards could change at any time. WotC would als...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 10/21/2019)

I'm gonna make an incredibly unlikely prediction. Tomorrow we will see an unprecedented change: functional errata, turning Oko's +1 into a -1. Why: 1. They REALLY don't want to ban Oko, he sells packs and is the face of the set, but not doing anything clearly is not an option. Errataing him means no...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 10/21/2019)

Historic coming to Arena is a matter of years so I don't worry about that. And by the time that happens, I've probably migrated largely to Pioneer myself. I'll miss cards like Snapcaster Mage and Cryptic Command, but just by the natural progression of eternal formats Modern just gradually becomes mo...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 10/21/2019)

Haven't seen the slippery slope argument in a while, almost feels nostalgic If I had my way I'd see Urza and Astrolabe go, I think Astrolabe is secretly a gravely offensive card. I'd also be fine with exchanging Mox Opal with either of those two cards. Also, although Oko is clearly fine in Modern, I...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 10/21/2019)

Is anyone expecting something to happen for Modern on Monday? I have not paid that much attention to the meta this month. I still feel like Urza is objectively the best deck, but I'm not certain whether it's oppressive. In general, whatever is going on in Modern has been somewhat overshadowed by the...

Can I choose to have swearwords censored or not?

I rarely swear in posts and only just now saw my swearword getting censored. This reads much more obnoxious to me than just seeing the swear word.

Is there an option in the user panel to turn of word filters, and if not could this be added?

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

Pioneer also has the advantage of coming at a time where all the other formats are just kind of %$#%. Standard is unplayable, Legacy is unaffordable, and the top decks in Modern are now burn, eldrazi, urza, tron, amulet and death shadow? Shadow is the only one of those that I would deem a somewhat e...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

I'd honestly be pretty fine with Modern becoming Legacy's patched version over the years.

Give me U Instant draw 2 put 1 on top. We'll call it Brain-stiff-breeze or something.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

Oko just belongs on the increasingly longer list of cards that aren't overpowered, but just very unfun to play against. It joins the ranks of Blood Moon, Ensnaring Bridge, Karn the Great Creator, and Teferi Time Raveler, I wouldn't be able to objectively argue those cards for a ban, but I'd be glad ...

Re: [SCD] Cataclysmic Gearhulk

Yeah, Gearhulk is mostly there for creature matchups. However, it also comes in against Urza decks (or any other deck that puts a bunch of the same card type into play) I'm a huge fan of the card. 4/5 Vigilance is super relevant, and it can often be a recurring wrath by bouncing it with Cryptic Comm...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

BBE and SFM are inherently fair cards though. Bridge from Below on the other hand is inherently unfair; by design it is made to circumvent magic's resource system. Hell, if you play it for its mana cost it literally does nothing. There's a good chance Bridge from Below would be a fine unban but I am...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

I agree with bearscape, except I think Urza is also a mistake. Basically, anything that turns artifacts into moxes is a mistake given the number of zero-costs artifacts ans how easy it is to recur them from the GY. Sure, Emry is the most efficient one, but other wise we'd see scrap trawler and the ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 08/26/2019)

Positive 2019 Magic Moments is a fun discussion For Modern, pre-Hogaak was a fine format. Although Phoenix was IMO the clear best deck and the point where Looting should have gotten banned, it was a fair ruler and it could be challenged. Similarly, early post Looting Ban was awesome, although Urza w...

Re: UW Control / Superfriends

I feel like you should be dipping into black for Pioneer Control lists, if only for Fatal Push. I've seen some people dabbling with Approach of the Second Sun as the wincon for Pioneer Control, which IMO makes sense together with Dig Through Time.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Hello guys. What do you think about new variations of artifact combo decks with Emry? Especially build with Jeskai Ascendancy. It feels like banned KCI - not that easy to hate even with Stony Silence (resilient to hate), deck can go off on turn 2 and has good midrange plan thanks to Sai and Urza. I...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

By the way the phrase "can win out of nowhere" is overused and deeply wrong. Twin won "out of nowhere", infect still does. If any version of an Urza deck has Urza on the battlefied, it doesn't win out of nowhere, the most broken card in the deck is right there. I mean, Urza, PO,...

Re: UWx Stoneblade

So how's the UWx Stoneblade brewing going? So far, I have not been very impressed frankly. The version I've seen that seems the most powerful to me is a Bant build using Noble Hierarch and Icefang Coatl, but that's not really my style. Straight UW has seemed weak and not committed enough to either ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Looting being banned is why Modern is good for the first time in over a year. Honestly yeah can we talk about that for a bit I am just reveling in current modern, there's just so much cool stuff going on now. Even though I haven't seen a SFM list that I actually really like, all these different tak...

Re: [Deck] Azorius Control

I brought UW Miracles to FNM last Friday, resulting in a perfectly mediocre 2-2. I was running a lot of yanky 1-ofs though (including Elixir of Immortality, lol) and honestly compared to the Mentor list I posted earlier, this felt incredibly powerful. Rummaging through the small handful of recent Mi...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

They're not going to forego Field of Ruin though. FoR is much better than these lands, it is one of the big reasons to be straight UW over 3 colors to begin with.. Hard disagree. I had a ton of success recently with a 23 land build of UW control packing zero field of ruins; I instead opted to build...
