Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Just saw Garth One-Eye and i hate it. I don't know if it's lazy design, looks annoying to play against, or I hate the name. I think its a combination of all of them. Is this a lore character I don't know of? When I hear Garth I picture Dana Carvey in Wayne's World. Garth is the protagonist of the M...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Again, the idea that Garth might get banned when things like Golos don't is simply laughable.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Yeah, I see the chances of Garth being banned to be pretty much zero. He is a value machine, but a lot less broken than some of the value machines we have seen in the recent past.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I will probably throw Garth in my Kenrith deck, which likes recurrable value engine creatures. He adds a whole bunch of potential utility.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Yawgmoth's Vile Offering

I have considered running this card multiple times, but it never quite makes the cut. The cost is too high for either effect on its own, and it is sometimes difficult to get real value out of both. Toss in sorcery speed and, yeah, not yet. Maybe someday.

I am confused about how Garth's "card name that hasn't been chosen" aspect is supposed to work.
Probably functionally identical to Demonic Pact.
So, flickering or recasting Garth would reset what he can do, correct?

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

So far the alt art treatments for the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms cards - b/w line illustrations meant to evoke the look and feel of first edition AD&D books - really turns me off. The one for the Beholder (card text not yet spoiled) is okay, but the boring Boros dwarf legend is, well, bo...

I am so pleased that Dakkon, Shadow Slayer is once again bearing the hyper colorful art of Richard Kane Ferguson. I don't exactly like his style, but I think it's great that he's on Dakkon's card art once again.
Yeah, new RKF art on a new version of one of his signature cards is very much a win.

I forgot this card existed. It gives me another potential reason to build that flash deck with the faerie from Commander Legends.

Re: Rolling dice to decide attacks -or- Triggering RxPhantom's self-destruct sequence

Rolling randomly for who to attack or target with some effect is, in my opinion, appropriate only when the cards dictate you do so (Ruhan, Vial Smasher, etc.). The rest of the time, people should play the game with some intent to win the game even when winning is less important to than having fun, w...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

And yes, haste is criminally underrated in this format. It's more than just a pair of shoes too, people need to run more options for haste. Mark of Fury , Ogre Battledriver , and Chainer, Nightmare Adept are my personal favorites for haste enablers. Ogre Battledriver is great. Temur Ascendancy is a...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

@JWK More people need to propagate the importance of attacking. I see so many missed combat step opportunities that it makes me depressed. If you can attack and no significant deterrent to doing so exists, you should. Full stop. Damage is value, folks. Get that value. Get it all. Damage is value, b...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

If I don't need the mana on a given turn and someone is open, I sometimes even attack with mana dorks. Those points add up. There are plenty of reasons not to attack - unfavorable board states, wanting to leave blockers or use an activated ability of a potential attacker - but if those don't apply a...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I own 4 Hullbreachers and 2 Opposition Agents but haven't slotted them into any decks yet. As I work on revising the decks I'm currently playing and updating some of the many I haven't played since COVID kicked in, I will definitely be slotting those in somewhere. The only time I roll dice to see wh...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Yeah, Dack's death was like in the big comics crossovers when they pull out some character that hasn't showed up in a story in three years, just to kill her/him to give the %$#% story some false gravitas. He played no actual role in the story except to be a corpse that happened to have a name. It wa...

Re: Forsaken Monument

This one falls in a weird place, on several levels. First off is the cost. 5 is great for an anthem+ramp effect in eldrazi decks, but it's a lot for most other artifact-related decks. I am sure there are artifact decks in which the lifegain is relevant, but a) that's probably niche, and b) again, 5 ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

People really are not good at threat assessment. Especially in commander. You aren't wrong. In one recent game I was in recently, someone Counterspelled my Beast Whisperer, when it was 100% telegraphed the Aesi player was going to go off on his next turn. Sure enough, he did, casting Aesi and drawi...

This... so much this. Please tell me there's no planeswalkers in the D&D set?! I will be surprised if they don't do Elminster - who has done a lot of planar travel - as a planeswalker. Same with Mordenkainen, if they ever do a follow up. Also, sounds like you read the storyline, I haven't ever ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

The story has been at best mediocre for a long while, but mediocre is better than the steaming awfulness of the War novel and later ones. I think the last time it was consistently pretty good was Ixalan or shortly after that. The first Vivien story we got, which was set there, was pretty well-writte...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Feldon of the Third Path

Feldon continues to be a fantastic card. Powerful without being overpowering, great flavor win, and a really neat effect for R to have access to. All-star card. If I didn't already have two monored decks, I'd probably make a Feldon one.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Path of Ancestry

There are absolutely decks in which I should be running Path of Ancestry instead of a triland. My Queen Marchesa deck, which I very recently updated, is one; Path is strictly better than the Nomad Outpost I am currently running there, as it provides the same mana options plus the option of a couple ...
