Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Grim Tutor

I have a couple of copies and I don't think I've run it yet. I have been trying to cut back on tutors, and especially on unrestricted ones, but for decks that still need tutors, there are better choices than this. Not gonna say hard pass, but it's pretty low on my list.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Adriana, Captain of the Guard

I have an knight tribal deck headed by Adriana. It does okay, the small boost provided by melee + the preponerence of first strike among knights can eliminate a lot of blockers. It isn't one of my strongest decks by any means, but it has pulled out its share of wins.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Bolt Bend

Both are great spells. Bolt Bend becomes significantly less good if you aren't running many creatures with power 4+. The potential uses for both cards are practically endless. "Sorry, enchantress player, but yes, my Etali would love to receive [carde]Eldrazi Conscription" is one that still...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

But anywho, DnD is something I've always wanted to try but haven't actually yet. Not sure how it'll pan out for me. I have been playing DnD on and off and in one edition or another since 1980. A fair percentage of the funnest experiences I've had have occurred within DnD games. When you try it out,...

Pretty sure the truth is somewhere between "proper game balance responsibility" and "we only budgeted for X amount of playtest hours".
Probably, with X = 3.5.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Given how some cards from the previous Modern Horizons turned out pretty busted, and given the complete mess that has been Standard over the past 1 1/2 years, I wouldn't have a ton of confidence in WotC's playtesting. Who could have possibly imagined Oko, Uro or Omn4th being a problem except, well, ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I am glad that it appears we will be getting a large printing of enemy fetches. This is much needed not only for us, but also for modern, and while I don't play modern, standard etc, I would like to see all of those formats recover and thrive because I don't think it good for the game as a whole, or...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Bribery

Still usually a solid card, but one I have avoided playing lately as most of my games have been online. As with all cards dependent on what you can get from an opponents' deck, whether to run this one is something of a meta call, and sometimes even picking the "right" opponent won't get yo...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mind Stone

Absolutely fine artifact ramp that can draw you a card at the point in the game when ramp is less relevant or you are desperate. Solid card, I run it in an awful lot of decks. In most builds, it's probably my third or fourth choice for 2 cmc artifact ramp, after Arcane Signet, a relevant Talisman an...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Lingering Souls

Oh, that is pretty in old border. 4 flying bodies for 5 is good already, but splitting it up makes it even better. This card is killer in constructed, but I wonder if being only above-rate is good enough for edh. Has anyone played this? I currently run it in three decks, and have run it in others i...

I've rediscovered the value of Karn, the Great Creator with Osgir, the Reconstructor. Exile things. Put them back to your hand with Karn's minus ability. Profit.
Yeah, that got mentiond above, and that frankly sounds pretty good.

Re: Hasbro is considering entering the NFT market. (link inside)

Maybe I'm missing something, but NFT seems to be something more or less designed to rip off people with too much money and too little sense. As long as it doesn't result in actual, playable cards that other players can't access - and nothing I've seen so far suggests that - I don't see it as anythin...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Karn, the Great Creator

I want to be mad about the static ability, but it's it realistically any "worse" than other hate/tax effects? Like, I'm ok with a meta learning to not be over reliant on rocks. At least it's not paired with an overly powerful + or - activation. Pretty meh walker in commander imo. Some peo...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Karn, the Great Creator

The static ability is very powerful in many metas - essentially, this is a Null Rod that doesn't mess with your own stuff. The +1 ability has lots of potential uses, including making opponents' artifacts vulnerable to creature removal. The -2 does not work in Commander, but that doesn't prevent thi...

Re: How do you utilize The Abyss to it's fullest potential?

It's good in my Nath stax deck, where I can easily create and sac fairly irrelevant token creatures and where it helps keep opponents from keeping creatures in play. It's definitely a build-around, but it can be great in some decks.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Runic Armasaur

It's not the most reliable card draw in the world, but it's cheap to cast and on an okay body. It gets worse in metas that wipe the board every turn or two, and it gets better in metas that run a lot of fetches, or even just stuff like Evolving Wilds or Krosan Verge . I don't currently run this one ...

What's to say? Cards don't come much stronger than this, and many of the few that are stronger are banned in this format.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Hammer of Nazahn

This is an amazing card in my Odric keyword tribal deck, potentially letting me equip the other 7 artifacts in the deck for free but more importantly, making Odric indestructible so the rest of my creatures also gain indestructible during each combat.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Zendikar Resurgent

I think this is a fine card, but it often ends up not making the cut in my decks because I run relatively few cards CMC 6+. It's hard to argue against mana doubling + card draw in big, stompy decks that include G, but at the same time, if you are ramping aggressively to play this early, why aren't y...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Al-abara's Carpet

The RL is not greedy on the part of WotC. It's honestly stupid on their part. Any legal obligation - highly questionable in any case - to not reprint RL cards ceased to exist when Hasbro purchased WotC, and they could be making a ton of money and creating a lot of good will in the player community b...

Honestly I've never seen it this bad, it's really pretty disgusting at the moment. Not gonna lie, it's led to some favourable trades for me, but it doesn't feel any less grotesque. The RL really does need to die in a fire, but I can't see it happening. Even if it does though, things seem to have ch...

And even there, it's still not a cheap card at all, just because it's from Legends.
