Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Got a nice anectote for y'alls: just had a jace resolved against me out of Bant Uro through 3 counterspells: casts Jace, I cryptic, he Veils, I Dispel, He Deprives, I Spell snare, He Veils again. i'll say this right now: %$#% this format as long as Veil is in it. %$#% it. I'm out. Not that I don't ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Today's prelim features so many fair snow decks. That's a good thing for the format. Uro is proving itself to be better than we thought it would be. Modern has a chance of being a fair format, after so many years. Let's see. my god, all hail to the "many fair snow decks". Are you sure you...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

One could argue that the ban list should be as small as possible, just as large as necessary. But yes, Preordain wouldn't add anything to the format, would give combo decks some marginal improvement... and low-toughness-creatures are bad enough already in this format, Punishing Fire would seal their...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Banning OUAT will only kill off Creature toolbox decks and other decks that have emerged with it while only hitting Eldratron, Tron and Amulet at the margin. Tron will go back to Ancient Stirrings and Sylvan Scrying, Eldratron didn't really needed it anyway, Amulet Titan will play Explore again. Ou...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

You calling it a meme and an affront to color identity (which it isn't) betrays your extreme bias and fundamental failure to grasp a few basic things. 5C Niv runs 12 plus ways to get five colors and it gets hosed by Blood Moon (it also doesn't run it), the aforementioned deck that got you so wind u...

In Modern it is bannable, but so is half the format.
That is pure polemic nonsense.

Also, I assumed you were refering to modern, hence this thread's name ;) I concede i don't know squat about Legacy.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

This is probably an unpopular opinion driven by me buying into Urza post-ban, but while 4c goodstuff is awful in Standard and questionable in Legacy, it seems less out of whack in Modern. Modern is almost defined by synergistic decks. Just going down the list of things that don't need Astrolabe, we...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

https://twitter.com/CorriganAbe/status/1236428924697133058 That has got to be the dumbest modern deck I have ever seen. A 4c control deck running 11 fetchlands, 9 single-color lands, and 3 Blood Moons in the sideboard. This is some HOT garbage right here. Monday's gonna be interesting, as in: maybe...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

In Legacy I don't have an issue with it in Modern I have an issue with it but I have a bigger issue with threats than answers dominating the format. Veil is small potatoes, bannable, sure, but not more bannable than Amulet, Urza, et al. That logic is faulty though IMO, because Veil of Summer isn't ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

If veil does not cantrip it is unplayable, that is the issue we have the card without cantrip and almost zero decks played it. So how to get this type of card to see play? Tough one, really tough. It probably could cantrip but be narrower. If you take the cantrip off and leave the card as is it won...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

To bring back the discussion to some facts: According to mtggoldfish, most played cards are: 1) OuaT (34% of decks, 3.7 copies) 2) Lightning Bolt (31%, 3,7 copies) 3) Thoughtseize (28%, 2,9 copies) 4) Path to Exile (25%, 3,3 copies) 5) Fatal Push (25%, 3.0 copies) 6) Veil of Summer (31%, 2,3 copies)...
