So, we have a list with 20+ archetypes in and we're complaining?

No wonder it's always the same people being annoying about the format.
What are you talking about? We already discussed the absurd "list" you posted earlier, and not even that was 20 archetypes long^^

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

1. Thoughtseize is as popular in Pioneer, if not more so than Uro/Astrolabe are in Modern. 2. Uro is massively popular in Pioneer too. 3. Pioneer is mostly a Green/x or Black/x format. There are 2 Simic Reclamation lists (oh look a deck that appeared out of nowhere are is placing well) and there's ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Just look at today's prelim astrofestival/urofest: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mtgo-standings/modern-preliminary-2020-04-17 Its getting kind of ridiculous, hearing people saying mardu blade or shadow decks are competitive. Oh boy^^ Black is just being invalidated by a very few car...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

That's pretty rubbish, and you can see that from top8 results. Ah, I forgot to mention Storm that also pops up from time to time. I really really need to emphasize that random decks popping up has nothing to do with what the meta actually looks like. That is true for Storm, Mardu, and a lot of othe...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Right now out there is plenty of very viable strategies: - UW/Bant Blade - Snow Control - Urza Variants - Jund - Amulet Titan - Mardu Blade - Eldrazi Tron - Green Tron - Monored - RG Ponza - Valakut - Dredge - Death's Shadow - GW Toolbox All of them are good. There are some better than others? Of c...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

TBH the logical consequence would be that management of eternal formats is taken out of WotC's hands. Ban list updates should not be issued by WotC. Of course, they are the ones designing new sets, but who said eternal formats had to be managed by WotC as well? I realize that this is hugely problema...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Further, I've been looking at what TheBoulderer was saying, and looking at Uro further. Why is it a 6/6? Why does its mega Growth Spiral trigger on ETB and Attack? How is this card even defensible to see print in Standard? If you are not playing Bant, and you want to pretend you can play Control, y...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

just taking a look at Bant Snow decks: if we look at the JtmS/BBE unban as a kind of pivotal moment in modern: Those 2 cards were unbanned in February of 2018, thats a little over 2 years ago. Modern is 9 years old, its oldest edition was released in 2003. Out of 35 non-land cards, a standard Bant S...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Uro is actually hilarious. What are the resources of this game? Mana Life Cards What does Uro provide? Ramp - Mana Life Gain Cards - Both in the hand (Draw 1) and in the GY waiting to return, and when it does, it does it again! Its a cosmic level joke that anyone could even think that it was OK. Co...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

What makes Bant good is twofold: 1) Ability to stabilize and 2) Ability to win quickly(though can be inconsistenc) once stable. For 1, this comes down to great value engines around Cryptic/Mystic and Uro life-gain, along with PWs to buy time, add value, and soak up damage that might otherwise go to...

do we think / are there any sources on whether they will make another b/r announcement anytime soon? They should be getting swamped with useful data from MTGO. Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

While I'm not denying the power and effectiveness of Astrolabe, DRS's abilities are worth way more than one card. AA doesn't hate out aggro and GY decks. It doesn't ramp. It isn't a clock. It's consistency tool, which yes have proven bannable in the past, but at the moment its benefits far outweigh...

I do remember when Jeskai was that good. There was even a brief 2-3 months when Nahiri, the Harbinger came out and Jeskai Nahiri with Emmy tore up a few large events in a row. Those were some glorious matches to watch, I remember some final, UW Control vs Jeskai control, with about 5 Phinx's Rev cas...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I agree with a quite a bit of this. Veil of Summer is without a doubt the biggest problem in modern. And its true that fair decks need to be able to run 3-4 FoR and always have perfect, painless mana to be able to compete with Big Mana. Astrolabe enables them to do that. I would argue though that th...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

ktkenshinx again, for some reason, you are completely ignoring thie indisputable fact that Uro, which is the main reason Bant Snow is good vs aggro, will stay a modern staple with or without Astrolabe. And yes, maybe it would then bee too greedy to want to curve Uro into Verdict into escape Uro. But...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I'm not saying its wrong, but can somebody specifically explain why all control decks will auto-fold to big mana if Astrolabe is banned? On the last few pages, this has become a knee-jerk argument for people against an Astrolabe ban. "If Astrolabe is banned, modern will be taken over by big man...

A) The same reason DRS was banned. I know you previously said "DRS ramps, it's not the same", but you were dead wrong on this one. Well, if "DRS ramps", B) "Astrolabe is destroying the color pie". For you the first one is worse? For me, the second one is. Quick point o...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

How is RG midrange being a good meta call a sign of format health? that just means big mana is dominating and aggro is bad. If anything its a sign of imbalance. 2) A deck running a different sb card isn't a great sign of anything. And "raising the ceiling" or to put it in other words, insa...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I'd rather Modern be home to happy accidents leaking from other formats than more of Wizards' constant meddling. Their desire to sell bombs and packs is obviously driving game profits, but is also leading to horrible, multi-format experiences, whether in bannable cards or cards that aren't quite ba...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Urza produces the mana himself. This means it does not work with Kinnan. Tapping for mana has a very specific meaning under the rules and Urza's ability does not count. Same with Heritage Druid. Right, thank you for the correction :) I didn't at first even consider that it might buff Urza's mana ab...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I have to talk about Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy here. This card clearly shows that when designing new cards, WotC is completely, 100% ignoring modern. This card makes Astrolabe into a cantripping mana dork, Mox Amber into the best MTG card ever printed, Guilded Goose, etc. We will have games like T1 Ast...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

There are only 3 ways modern can ever evolve: New prints, bans and innovation. a) Right now, Gruul Ramp seems to be that "innovation", although to be fair that deck has been a thing for ages in some form, it just got several good cards recently and is well positioned. I fully expect GR Ram...

Oracle makes the deck a good turn faster (maybe not theoretically, but in practi...

why would it have been cheaper though? The combo was the same, fetches were the same (grixis needed more), cryptics, snap... apart from blood moon and clique, all the money cards seem to overlap, no?
