Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

Valakut Awakening // Valakut Stoneforge Oh, whoops! I totally didn't realize it could come into play untapped. It's much more useful now, with the fact that we just need 3 life to have it replace a land. One thing to note, however, is that it's not a basic land. Obviously, Blood moon won't hurt us ...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

So I thought i'd share some updates and my opinions on the newest set. After mulling over the Cursed Totem problem I mentioned in my previous post, I stumbled across Embereth Shieldbreaker . This card is great! It's a Smelt that's not a dead draw if flipped from the bottom of your deck. Perfect for ...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

So I've played a few more games, and with that i've come to a few realizations: Cursed totem is mean lol. With it in play, barring a miraculous Ingot Chewer in hand, there's not much I can do. The card's not exactly maindeck material for most decks these days, but my friends are learning to put it i...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

As for chainer, I'm not a huge fan of it personally. Due to how i've built the deck, creatures shouldn't ever really _live_ in the graveyard, as they're going to either be in play, or sacrificed as part of an infinite combo. Plus, all the interesting creatures are generally far too expensive to make...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

After being away from magic for the last 6 months or so, I've gotten back into it. With a fresh new pair of eyes on my grenzo deck, i'm realizing that a lot of the cards in it are sorely lacking :(. So, i've decided to further double down (quadruple down?) on the digger combo—i've even cut stuff lik...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

Hoboz , I like the idea of krenko, but I'm hesitant to include him; effectively every other creature that I'm running has an ETB/LTB trigger (sans the mana dorks...). Seeing how I only have anger and olivia, mobilized for war as haste-enablers, flipping it with haste seems somewhat unlikely. As for...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

snowfox54119 , the Krark-Clan Ironworks goes with Workhorse and Cathodion (the latter of which you don't run, iirc. I like it because it's another etb/ltb mana source). It can also sacrifice artifacts that are generated in other ways ( Pitiless Plunderer , Dockside Extortionist , Rapacious Dragon ,...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

After further testing of bridge from below, i'm not so sure it's as good as I thought it was. Creatures die quite frequently in commander (e.g. steve ) and so it doesn't tend to stay around for very long. For example, if you flip it on your third turn, by the time you've gotten to your fifth turn, 6...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

Blueduck , I can't respond to your first question, but as for your second, don't feel like they're too difficult to avoid. If you look at the primer (/my suggestions), you'll note that most of the combos center around a few specific cards (primarily ashnod's altar , [[kiki jiki, mirrorbreaker], and...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

I've been playtesting, and Bridge from Below is an absolute truck. Holy hell. Not only does it give you a bonus zombie whenever you sacrifice something during a loop, but it ALSO gives a zombie whenever grenzo flips a creature—whee! lots of zombies everywhere lol. 100% recommend Also, how's about Co...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

Another thing to note: Multiple times now i've hit a spinerock knoll that yields three lands and a creature. Whatever way you order it, you're still going to end up with at least two lands you have to dead draw through before you get to the rest of your deck; maybe consider cutting the card? I defin...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

I guess the way I'm going about building my grenzo is slightly different than yours: Instead of embracing the "casino" theme you have, I've been trying to focus almost exclusively the infinite mana digger loop. 'cause of this, I've added a bunch of redundant sub-par cards to make sure I ca...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

I've been playtesting it a lot online, and I've found that the mana echoes more than makes up for it's liability. If you have some bad sac outlet (maybe just your Dimir House Guard ) and flip an Emrakul's Hatcher , you just net 16 mana. If you throw in the fact you usually have quite a few goblins i...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

Made an account just so i could comment. Why not run a murderous rider ? It both provides a kill spell stapled onto a creature along with a "self-digger," which means you don't have to also have a digger in play for combos. Also, as per the Tel-jilad stylus protection you mentioned, aren't...
