Re: Top 5 Current Commander Concerns or have another freak out over Sheldon's thoughts

twice on modo with Yorion, Sky Nomad (which I understand is nasty but like, play a removal spell?) Well, if you blinked it repeatedly I can certainly understand their frustration. They might not have had an instant removal in their hand and the mana to cast it. (Although I guess 'anything goes' is ...

Re: Garth One-Eye - Looking for a theme

The thing that bugs me about him I think is that he runs out of value, unless you sac him and regrowth himself I guess which might be fun :P Not sure there's a way to line that up though I guess unless you sac him with Phyrexian Altar to cast the Regrowth :P Any sac outlet will do the trick for thi...

Re: Top 5 Current Commander Concerns or have another freak out over Sheldon's thoughts

I figured Fall of the Thran would be well received since it's more limited but every time I played it people insta-scooped and whined about armageddons. :) It did break the symmetry a bit having the first land I bring back be Serra's Sanctum or Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx I guess =P Did you try the othe...

Re: Top 5 Current Commander Concerns or have another freak out over Sheldon's thoughts

You know what kind of mld actually would help against ramp? Balance style mld. Harder versions of the effect could make everyone sacrifice down to the X lands, where X is the number of lands controlled by the player with the fewest lands, or make everyone sacrifice down to a relatively low number o...

Re: Garth One-Eye - Looking for a theme

Man in 5c there are so many crazy untapping shenanigans you can do. Derevi is fine as a card. There's extra combat steps, Aphetto Alchemist dudes, Intruder Alarm , Necrotic Ooze shenanigans with the Lowryn block untap guys, Zealous Conscripts effects. Even random spellslingery stuff like Vitalize a...

Re: Garth One-Eye - Looking for a theme

Like others have mentioned, I would go old school, that seems to be the most thematic fit.
If you want a more synergistic build, untap and blink are the most obvious ways to abuse his ability.

Re: What mechanics would you like to see in future Commander precon decks?

pokken Serenade I think the best plan for that would be to make both versions available for each card: one in the precon, the other in the collector boosters. I find it sad they went with non-foil extended art in the collector boosters for the C21 new cards, when they could just have put the classi...

Re: MH2 Deck Changes

I plan to play Glimpse of Tomorrow , Yusri, Fortune's Flame and Lonis, Cryptozoologist in my Golos random.dec. I'll add Obsidian Charmaw , Timeless Dragon , Murktide Regent , Scion of Draco and Piru, the Volatile to the dragons pile for my Ur-Dragon deck (with Tireless Provisioner joining the main d...

I love the sketched frame, but only in non-foil. I'm torn on the flavour text being replaced by the art directions though, I like some of those texts and I don't want to choose between the frame and the flavour text. :P

Re: What mechanics would you like to see in future Commander precon decks?

am i the only one who cares about horsemanship? The problem with horsemanship is that it's basically "can't be blocked" with a random downside from time to time. It is basically the equivalent of flying so there is no new design space. It might be cute to see one new card with hor...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

Sheldon's statement only further convinced me that it's time for Sanctioned Commander with a ban list and Unsanctioned Commander with no ban list. So that wishing could default to Wizard's rule on wishing, which would eliminate the need for Rule 11, and so that the bulk of Rule 0 discussions would ...

Tasha's Hideous Laughter: I can only see this being played in decks that want to capitalize on exiled cards from the opponents' decks, like Oblivion Sower or the processors.

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

I hate this mentality. I really, really hate it. This past week, I was playing at my LGS, and one guy ended our interesting, twisty turny game with a totally boring Thassa's Oracle / Demonic Consultation . Yawn boo ugh. Anyway, just a few minutes later he's going on about how one or both should be ...

Re: What mechanics would you like to see in future Commander precon decks?

A Temur energy commander was in the works at some point but had to be cut when the Amonkhet block was designed. I think there is a reasonable chance we'll see it at some point. :) As much as I love cascade, they released the Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder precon a few years ago and I think a new cascade ...

Re: Felidar Sovereign, Test of Endurance and Approach of the Second Sun

I actually like Felidar Sovereign and Test of Endurance (as well as other similar upkeep wincons such as Simic Ascendancy ). They're a reasonable and fair plan B (or C). They only take one slot in your deck and give you a chance to win. If they are dealt with, it's no big deal, you still have your m...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

Not to mention, there's almost no way for non-blue players to deal with wheel effect either, is there? I presume instead of banning wheels, we can hope that WotC make cards that prevent wheels effects, maybe a white card that either hinders it altogether or "phase out" the cards in hand t...

It's also worth mentioning that getting more lands into your hand works great with Archaeomancer's Map, to truly turn it into bad Burgeoning :P (which is still good).

Re: Land Tax and replacements

Lands lose a lot more value in duplicate in that its going to take time to deploy them to play. Deck thinning is a thing, but statistically in commander its fairly minor (100 card decks) and it takes drawing a lot of cards after thinning a bunch to noticeably find much of a difference. Deck thinnin...

Re: Land Tax and replacements

Its worth noting that it can be very hard to keep all of the cards in your hand. I often find that if I am getting more than 1-2 lands from this sort of effect that I am going beyond maximum hand size and discarding several of them. The better your draw is the more often you will just be finding a ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Helix Pinnacle

I played it as one of the potential wincons in Patron of the Orochi. That deck could generate absurd amounts of mana. I never won with it though, it was always dealt with before I could untap with 100 counters on it.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Land's Edge

Why would anyone ever play this over Seismic Assault ? I think one more R is worth being not symmetrical and expanding potential targets beyond only players. 1.73/10 There's one very narrow difference: players can discard anything with Land's Edge, not just lands. That doesn't make the card good bu...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mitotic Slime

It's probably not good but I still try to cram this card into some of my decks every now and then. I just love this kind of fun design. It might be worth it to play it alongside Reef Worm into Adrix and Nev, Twincasters, now that I think about it, mmmh.

Re: Have you seen any Walking Dead cards in the wild?

Me and my playgroup split that Secret Lair. I took Negan, the Cold-Blooded for Golos since I love this type of "mind game" design. I haven't had the chance to play the deck since COVID so I don't know how good he will be. I don't have any interest for The Walking Dead and I don't know who ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mox Opal

Agreed, best legal mox in EDH, provided you run enough artifacts to make it reliable (the new artifact lands in MH2 can certainly help for that). I love artifact builds and I love this card. It is sadly too expensive and I don't own one yet.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Murktide Regent is another new dragon, how many of them did they put in this set? It's just a big dumb flyer but it can have a good power/MV ratio and keep growing after that. I'll put it in my dragon pile (plus I like the look of the sketched version). Goblin Anarchomancer clearly looks like the d...
