Re: Seeking advice: the right amount of decks?

If you need to cut decks, you could make tri-colour decks that emphasize two or even all three of the pairings involved. Thats pretty tricky though. Thanks for the recommendation and for posting your great chart (and an explanation), Mimicvat ! I play 9/16 of my decks regularly… Given there are onl...

4. I'm 50% Spike, 30% Johnny, 15% Timmy, and 5% Vorthos.
You broke it down 4 ways and still left out Melvin. What a shame...
That 5% is probably half and half Melvin and Vorthos. (Though I didn't know about Melvins—other than the excellent band—until you mentioned them! Thank you.)

Re: Seeking advice: the right amount of decks?

@Mimicvat That makes sense. A few players in our regular playgroup are heavy proxy printers/users, and our group as a whole doesn't mind proxies at all. That might make sense for me, too…

Re: Seeking advice: the right amount of decks?

I don't build specific decks so much as assemble strategic skeletons for common archetypes. Doing so allows me to flex towards new designs in established mechanical spaces during releases while still maintaining 4 distinct decks at all times. They reincarnate constantly under different leadership, ...

Re: "Quirks That Define Your EDH Style"

1. I love playing Magic on everyone's turn. (So Seedborn Muse + flash/instants is my ideal setup.) 2. Conversely, I guess: I'm very bored by combat. (Though love watching Krenko vomit out goblins and Najeela vomit out soldiers.) 3. I love fast play and games that end within 45 minutes. 4. I'm 50% Sp...

Seeking advice: the right amount of decks?

Hello! A tl;dr version is in bold below. To add some context to my request for advice, here's a brief story about my time with Magic. My older brother taught me how to play in 1994. I was 6 and he was 14. I played casually with him and with folks at a local game shop until Prophecy (in June 2000), t...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

ego This is an interesting analysis. Thanks for starting this line of thinking! I see one problem with your general line of reasoning. It's a simple but important problem: activated abilities are much harder to interact with than spells. If you added impulsive draw effects and/or tutors to this lis...

Re: Kruphix - The Maximal Amount of A Good Thing

Huh, I honestly thought there were more selfish X draw spells. Guess this might be why you went into a huggier direction with the deck. I wish there were! That said, Gadwick, the Wizened exists, and might be a good use of one of your two open slots? Alhammarret's Archive as another faux-doubler? Th...

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

ego : I'll pile on a bit with a simple defense of not-drawing-cards with this deck: I've played the hell out of this deck for about a year and I've only ever wanted to add cards that would let me discard cards. Also, I recently cut Burnished Hart (for Olivia!)—I found that the Hart often felt too s...

Re: Kruphix - The Maximal Amount of A Good Thing

Big update—added a Notable Exclusions section, beefed up my notes on piloting the deck, and added descriptions/explanations for all cards in the deck (except for boring/self-explanatory lands). Primer status to come, I hope!

Re: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden - The Slot Machine of Value

NoNeedToBragoBoutIt I suspect because Carnival is a dead flip, and we have no way to recur Enchantments in this deck. (For a similar reason, I had and then cut Fires of Invention –the one time I played it it got swiftly removed!) And since it's a one-of, you only have about an 8% chance to draw it ...

Re: Ertai: an Aura of Control

Just a shoutout to this deck's surprising flexibility, regardless of its thematic focus. Once there are 3-5 cCreatures and 3-5 Auras on the field, the deck becomes a novel control build that can hang with decks at higher power levels.

Outcryqq snowfox54119 Thanks so much for clarifying the Grenzo v. graveyard hate situation! This is very useful to show folks. And snowfox: thanks for the shoutout! I've added Skirge Familiar but haven't flipped it yet. And I'm convinced by ThePillowman 's arguments for Olivia; will be trying her o...

@snowfox54119 "Drawing cards is typically a goal of decks that wish to cast things. That's their unfortunate cross to bear." should be in the primer somewhere.

Oh actually I just came across Seedcradle Witch which is another card that would allow infinite mana with Faeburrow Elder and Niv-Mizzet.
Even better! I'm going to replace High Alert with Seedcradle. Thanks again!

Re: Naban - Wizard Beats

Kindred Discovery is great for card draw and ETB triggers. Strionic Resonator is good to double up on those impactful ETBs.

My current cEDH Urza deck began its life as a mono-blue Naban Wizards deck, so I've got a great warmth in my heart for this kind of build.

Niv-Mizzet Reborn - Astral-Living-Genesis

This build looks like a lot of fun. The Astral Slide mechanic is so brilliant with Niv. I've been piloting this build for awhile. It's more straightforward in its conception: play a maximum density of guild pairs; it plays mostly as a politics deck (since the cards are revealed, I'll give one oppone...
