Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I just don't agree. Modern is having problems, but they will be addressed soon. When modern was made WOTC did not intentionally hurt legacy or standard. The modern player base has frequently complained so it is not a surprise we are complaining at the time a new format is developing, that is likely ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

When I think niche, i remember a guy I saw in my shop a few months ago with his tiny leaders deck. Seriously, niche formats imo would include block, cube (but this is growing), tiny leaders, old school 1994, NBL modern and several other mtgo only formats that most people can't name without looking t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Vintage, I have never seen played, Legacy sees almost no local play. If that's not niche, I don't know what is. I have played in paper legacy, vintage and even pauper events at different LGS's over the years. About an hour from here there is a LGS that runs monthly legacy and modern events, that is...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Vintage is still around and is not niche imo. Same with legacy. Modem will continue to exist in a smaller capacity and that is ok. Pioneer will get bigger. People will play Whatever format they want and for a percentage of players that will be modrn.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

All, it looks like the twin arguement is getting hot again. Let's all step back a minute and remember that there are points we can all agree on. 1) twin was/is polarizing. I've seen shouting matches start after the combo hits the table turn 4. But some people loved it then and now. There is room for...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I think twin would be good, maybe tier 1, but not teir zero and that is ok. There is room for multiple teir 1 decks and we don't say they should all be banned because they are tier 1, we say teir one is ok as long as we have diversity.

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I'm playing GR pummeler or a GB dredgeless dredge variant and am having a good time while building soulflayer. My LGS is small and our events don't fire all the time, but no event fires regularly where I am. No one where I am are building tier decks, it's burn, pheonix, jeskia ascendancy and brews h...

Maybe I didn't make my comment clear. Tweet whatever your opinion on bans/unbans are. They do not read our board, if we want to push for action, any action, we have to take our message to the people that matter. "Sqeaky wheel gets the grease" is the old adage.

@Mtgaaron
#UNBANTWIN in #MTG MODERN

Everyone should tweet directly to @mtgaaron whatever your nan/unban options are. There is no set ban/unban schedule anymore so we have to push the people in power harder to get the change we need now. Maybe we can get something done in January.

Re: January, 2020 Banlist poll - Ban

I've never voted to ban this many cards before.

Ban LATTICE → it's too powerful and just dumb.
Ban OKO → he is probably too powerful, certainly too prevelant.
Ban URZA → urza is too good and still will be after an oko ban.
Ban ASTROLABE → the mana fixing is too good & it draws a card.

******UNBAN TWIN!******UNBAN BRIDGE!******

****BAN SOMETHING FROM THE URZA DECK!***

Twin ban was unfounded to begin with. The Bridge ban was completely wrong, hogaak was the problem and now with faithless looting banned too bridge is even less threatening than it was before hogaak was printed.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Urza was good during hogaak summer, but I will not accept that urza came first or that it was better than hogaak at the time. Regardless, urza has undoubtedly gotten much better with oko and emry as evidenced by it's deck evolution, infinite life gain and thopters is no longer good enough. Edit: the...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Can't agree with this opinion. Urza decks gets again more time because another pushed card rescues them again.... Like hoogak last time. We don't need to wait allways. Urza was best bevore hoogak, it was best even bevore urza himself. Why we should wait? I don't knew anyone which likes playing agai...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

People have named multiple cards as potential ban targets for the urza/oko decks. I have mainly advocated to ban urza and "another card" from the urza deck. Let's face it that there are several ban targets, with oko being possibly the #1 target. Possible ban targets for urza/oko decks: #1 ...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Nexus and oko being miserable to play against was just the final nail in the coffin, they were certainly banned primarily for their dominance over the meta game. Dominance has to be the driving factor in any ban imo. I don't think either of these, field of the dead, copter or felidar guardian will E...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 11/18/2019)

I play exclusively on paper. I play with friends at home every week. My LGS events fire off maybe every other week or a bit less frequently than that. If the event doesn't fire I still play with the other people that showed up to play. Occasionally I drive an hour to play at Jacksonville FL and I we...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 11/18/2019)

I was checking out the meta on mtgtop8 just now and noticed there is VERY little combo going around. I know copy cat was banned and aetherworks marvel is only so-so but it seems there has to be a few combo decks yet to be discovered or tuned properly. Or what is holding combo back? Or are some other...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 11/18/2019)

As I have said multiple times, if I felt like flushing a thousand dollars down the toilet in the face of an inevitable ban, I would love to pick up Okos and Urzas and Opals and go to town. Deck looks all kinds of fun with lots of varied play lines. The ultimate irony is that its continue existence ...

So let's unban hoogak, it was only less better as urza. Whoa.... No. I loved playing with my hogaak deck and my eldrazi deck pre-banning but nothing will ever release cards of that power level into the format. After a lot of though, I changed my mind on the Opal/Urza situation and I agree with ktke...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 11/18/2019)

I really don't want to go into this too much, but the problem that a deck like Twin had is that the opponent couldn't realistically play against you. People need to stop saying this. It is so horrendously untrue that it's not worth addressing further. These mischaracterizations are bordering on obs...
