Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I'm willing to add a couple movies to aforementioned overwhelming back log of "must watch" movies. But if you think I'm going to feel the same way about them as I did about Airplane! then don't bother. Opinions vary wildly on favorite/best Mel Brooks movie. For me, his greatest movie is &...

Re: Killian, Ink Duelist - Auras & Instants
I've added Unexplained Absence to my list as well. One mana to exile two creatures and a nonland permanent seems legit :-) Should end up being [sym=1][sym=w], it costs [sym=3][sym=w] originally and Killian reduces it by [sym=2]. Killian doesn't reduce the spell cost by 2 per creature targetted.

Its not exactly the same since it's a different color (same CMC) and can hit basics, but there is always Sinkhole.

Re: How frequently do you crack packs?
I think the last time I bought a box was probably one of the Time Spiral block sets, or one of the first two sets from Lorwyn block, it's been a very long time. I basically just buy singles online. I usually play at friend's houses, but on the rare occasion I play at a store I always make sure to bu...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Helm of the Host
I'm not a huge fan of this in Blue Decks as things like Sakashima the Impostor and other clone effects are generally far more efficient.
For non-blue decks though, it is pretty neat. I don't have any decks that it would be particularly useful in at the moment but it's a fun card.

Re: Killian, Ink Duelist - Auras & Instants
A quick update to the deck due to our latest murder mystery set: Added Cards [/u] +1 Unexplained Absence - This seems fairly solid. With Killian in play, as long as you target at least one creature, it feels like this does some significant work for just [sym=w][sym=1]. Giving your opponent(s) potent...

Re: Braids - Nightmare Unending
A small update to the deck based on the recent set release: Added Cards [/u] +1 Case of the Stashed Skeleton - For two mana you get a creature and enchantment to sacrifice to Braids, at bare minimum. Solving this case is absolutely trivial for the deck. Playing and solving the case gives is basicall...

Re: STATE OF THE FORMAT 2024
I wouldn't be so worried about ol' Grizzlebee as a commander, as you have to for the most part just play him for his cost and are limited to just black cards, I'm sure it'd still be a super strong deck though. Being in the 99 of other decks, to be able to Reanimate , Sneak Attack , or Show and Tell ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Alchemist's Refuge
Wednesday, January 31st, 2024; Alchemist's Refuge Alchemist's Refuge|lcc This should basically be an auto-include in most decks that can run it. I've seen this do some random unexpected out of nowhere stuff. Even just the ability to "end of your turn, play my creatures" makes it worthwhile.

Re: [Helpwanted] Building an Astarion deck for my sister
Oh! One other card I should have suggested previously is Axis of Mortality . It's all about life gain/life loss and combos great with that commander. You'll just have to explain ahead of time that the "exchange" does count as losing or gaining the appropriate amount, so the potential is cl...

Not sure where these land in your budget/already owned spare copies but I'd recommend: Exsanguinate Debt to the Deathless Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose Tainted Sigil Gray Merchant of Asphodel Vizkopa Guildmage These all are relatively straightforward cards and have easy to grasp synergies with the co...

Is Manaplasm locked in as the commander?
I think Tasigur, the Golden Fang might be pretty sweet and still in the same color combination. He'd let you (hopefully) keep recasting copies of your ooze maker, and enables putting copies into your grave/exile.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
WHOOOOOA you could easily do infinite combats with Anzrag (the mole god) with the right cards (You get another combat if Anzrag gets blocked) So Lure effects + Heroic Intervention or Darksteel Plate effects + a way to give one creature a opponent controls indestructible like Mortal's Resolve = infi...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Massacre Girl, Known Killer is definitely going to make its way into a few of my decks. I will definitely be giving some of these Surveil Duals a try in my Kess, Dissident Mage reanimator deck. They could enable some dumb set up on Turn 1 with a bit of luck. Not sure that I'll run all three, but at...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The March Cycle
I'm a fan of March of Swirling Mist . It's pretty flexible. Protect your own stuff, remove blockers or attackers, temporarily deal with a creature based combo. It's rarely a dead card. I haven't tried any of the others but I'm not impressed by them very much for commander other than the red one whic...

Re: Y'all are building Liesa wrong
I don't think so, the whole point of Vigilance is to get my lifelink swing in everyturn while still leaving up a blocker. Reconnaissance is good for decks that just want the attack triggers and don't really care if the creatures actually do damage or not. Not trying to sell you on it (I'm not runni...

Re: Wyleth vs Kellan
Not sure if you've considered it since you didn't mention her, but I prefer Nahiri, Forged in Fury over Wyleth, Soul of Steel if you want an equipment commander that has card draw involved. Nahiri is "temporary draw" but isn't dependent upon having everything loaded up on her, and in my ex...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Luxior, Giada's Gift
I have yet to actually draw it to be able to play it, but a copy is in my Chandra deck. In theory at least, i like it for stopping people from being able to directly attack a planeswalker. However, opening up planeswalkers to creature removal is a factor. Being able to commander damage to death some...

Re: Need Help with Monoblack Control
I've run a Drana deck for a long time (list is not online) and one thing I have found useful on occasion was including Bloodghast and Reassembling Skeleton . This gives you a repeatable disposable target for Drana in case opponents are going creature light or untargetable creature issues are popping...

Re: Y'all are building Liesa wrong
A couple of other quick notes: If you are wanting to guarantee you are hitting g land drops, why not run things like Tithe , Land Tax , Archaeomancer's Map , and/or Weathered Wayfarer ? I still think some cheap rocks are valuable (I run these cards and rocks in my deck) but if you aren't in on rocks...

Re: Y'all are building Liesa wrong
My Liesa list is very minimal on these effects, I'm not huge on leaning all in on group slug myself either. I stand by running Ankh of Mishra and Kambal, Consul of Allocation as they are low CMC so they potentially drop early and mess with a number of strategies pretty decently. The damage those two...

Re: Ghost Council Voltron/Control
It's a neat style of deck, I ran something sort of similar a few years ago with Obzedat, Ghost Council as the commander.
I'd consider running Rout as one of your wipes since the insant speed is a nice option.

Re: Need Help with Monoblack Control
If you are playing a Gonti, Lord of Luxury deck, then Phyrexian Reclamation should almost certainly be in the deck with all of those sac outlets. That lets you play him potentially multiple times per turn, and basically sets his commander tax permanently at 2 mana. A friend of mine has played him se...
