Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

slimytrout appreciate the info. bravelion83 I don't have slimy's contest judging/running experience, but I will say "effect" is definitely deeper into the rules granularity than I'm familiar with, and I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable player. I think, in general, the crux of it is ...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

bravelion83 in the past, there have been issues where I have followed the letter of a challenge but not the spirit, so I wanted to ask for subchallenge 1: would an effect such as "at the beginning of combat on your turn, tap this creature unless you collect evidence 6" pass? To my knowled...

@bravelion83 not that it matters for placement, but my entry can kill the fish. By choosing modes 1 and 2 of his ability and turning himself face down, with infinite mana you can loop to deal infinite damage to creatures

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

bravelion83 sounds good, that's what I assumed. I do have one more question I just thought of on subchallenge 2. For "kill the fish", does it have to be sent to graveyard? Or do any of exile/bottom of library/top of library/hand etc count? And in the exile case, does permanent exile versu...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

bravelion83 for march round 1, if my card only deals 2 damage to the fish, but has an ability like Karlov Watchdog that prevents my opponent from turning it face up, does that satisfy the subchallenge? edited to add: and is the answer different if my card simply says "Permanents can't be turne...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

Ryder just filled it out, and wanted to add a small addendum to my answer about the assigned colors in the versus round. I really like the concept, but it has to be approached carefully imo, since if the challenge is easier to accomplish with a given color than the opponent, that wouldn't be a grea...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

Raptorchan for February round 1, how much scrutiny is going to be placed on "main or significant character" for the main challenge? I ask because, if I for example wanted to do doctor who, I'd argue that all of the main and significant characters (every doctor, every companion, every majo...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

bravelion83 While, like I said, I did come up with this from beginning to end in about 10 minutes since I had been distracted by my irl stuff, I would like to speak to my thought behind the card. It was intended to be a card that lets you win the game if you have a "can't lose the game" e...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

I am really sorry for my late submission for January round 3; as I had mentioned in my last post here, I've spent the week driving across the US, conveniently at the same time as a major storm, and everything else was kind of on pause. I just remembered about the contest and quickly put together a s...

Also, @haywire: post as late as you want but do remember to post before the design deadline tonight (in about 15 hours from me writing this) I will admit, I was not intending to post at the literal last minute, but today got away from me (was informed out of nowhere my job is moving me across the c...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

The point of my initial comment was not to say "this is bad, never do this", more just that it incentivizes waiting. Even if my submission isn't the highest MV, if I were to post it now, others would know that and be able to design around it. As long as I don't post it, anybody doing desig...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

I will say, I don't know if this is me being over-competitive, but it feels like the subchallenges this month that are relative to other players encourage posting at the last minute. Not so much the rarity one in the previous challenge since that was a hard bar at common, but with MV, it feels like ...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

Does reminder text count as rules text? For example, if I made a new keyword "Regret" with the reminder text "If you've previously cast a spell with the same name as this one, it costs an additional 2 life to cast." would that satisfy the main challenge? (the ability is not what ...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

Ryder just to make sure I'm clear, as I haven't participated in an MCC with the use of terms/wordings without much precedence, we still have to adhere to existing standards, correct? i.e. we couldn't say "during the previous turn" since the existing standard for that is "during the l...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

void_nothing just wanted to discuss the flavor of my card. I was trying to (in one card) nod to the idea of another multiversal-level threat, similar to the recent arc, but I figured that in order to be effective from a plot standpoint, it would a) have to not occur for a while, focus on smaller st...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

@Ink-Treader another subchallenge 2 question: if the card is a DFC, how would that interact with the subchallenge? If one face had one qualifying keyword, and the other had another, would that work? Or is the intention that they appear in conjunction?

Ink-Treader and then (hopefully) last question, sorry, things like affinity, protection and hexproof are all listed as one keyword ability under the rules, regardless of how they're modified. Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

Ink-Treader for october finals subchallenge 2, does that mean that each of the keyword individually has never been on that color of card before, or that the combination of keywords has never been on a card of that color? Like, for example, would a green creature with trample and banding qualify for...
