Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Meta is still in a poor place. I'll keep playing G-Tron and Jund at a local level for as long as the decks are reasonably good. But I want to see more diversity in decklists.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

What if they won't unban hypergenesis because they would rather you buy into the new reanimator deck with archon of cruelty, persist, and unmarked grave?

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Colossus Hammer on an Inkmoth Nexus can already win a game in a single combat step, I don't see why infect can't do the same.

Oh, and I'm thinking it's time to trade/sell all my copies of Wrenn and Six. While I think it has a lot of room to grow in price, I'd rather be ahead of the crowd.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

That Saffron Olive unban article was pretty good. There's a few points I didn't agree with, but I liked about 75% of it. Blazing Shoal would require Progenitus in the mainboard. It's a gimmicky combo that makes the deck even more boom and bust. Unless it can run something besides Progenitus that als...

Wotc probably has little intention of unbanning banned cards anymore.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Expensive staples usually get banned or fall out of the metagame. Makes it very hard to buy in. May as well wait on some MH2 bans.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I'd like to see Companion and Urza's Saga removed. Ragavan is problematic too but I can live with it. Wrenn and Six has also been problematic and I'm glad someone pointed that out, but I hope he can stick around.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

drmarkb has a decent point. Prismatic ending even hits expedition map, amulet of vigor and shriekhorn. These are supposed to be decks that are slower but harder to interact with. Lantern control also got a lot harder to play.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Players of "Banned Modern" claim the format would be pretty good if Eldrazi were removed, and I'm assuming Hogaak and Oko are pretty overpowered too. Birthing pod and Splinter Twin are regarded as being pretty benign. All anecdotal of course. I came in here to ask about Sea Gate Stormcalle...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I see Ragavan and Urzas Saga as being significantly better than Deathrite Shaman and Field of the Dead respectively. It'll probably take public opinion some time before it turns against these cards though, maybe a year or 2.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

My problem isn't the metagame, which is technically very good, but rather that every deck plays the same cards. The recent Vegas tournament had 7 different decks in the top 8, but still had at least 20 copies of Urza's Saga and a lot of Lurrus. It's a lot like how legacy has varied metagames, but to...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I'm glad people are starting to get more outspoken because I felt too many problems from modern horizons 2 were being glossed over. As for Ragavan, the card ramps mana, generates card advantage, applies early pressure, and is also a relevant top deck. It has a lot of the same problems that deathrite...

so Lurrus of the Dream-Den is $10 CAD no foil, is this the bottom or will it get cheaper? Thinking about getting more copies now
Personally I think owning a non-foil playset is a great idea, but i'm leery of going deeper than that. It's not seeing mainboard play anymore.

Re: Is there a chance of tarmogoyf prices coming back up?

I feel that this is the bottom for Tarmogoyf, although I also said that after the Ultimate Masters reprint. I think it could modestly rise in price, similar to what Dark Confidant did after the Double Masters reprint.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Is there a deck that slaughters BR Lurrus variants? Essentially 4 DRC, 4 Monkey, and then a ton of 1/2 drops? I was running Elementals, but lost to it three times in a row. Overall, I think I'm still high, but is there anything that does even better? I'm 1 and 4 against B/R Lurrus decks. Some of th...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I feel deck building is slightly homogenized. I'm seeing too much Lurrus and Urza's Saga. I don't like that most fringe decks consist of some flavor of Bg/x with Lurrus. Ragavan is played too much too. Ragavan is played in Izzet tempo, Rakdos Lurrus, Jeskai Stoneblade, and Obosh builds. It literall...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Thank you, that makes sense. If you scapeshift 6 lands with the old primsmatic omen in play, grabbing 4 Valakut and 2 other land it was 6 lands hitting the battlefield times 4 Valakut for 24 triggers for 72 damage. Dryad of the ilysian grove sure is strong, but the ramp decks that use it are centere...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Let's assume 4 stomping grounds, 1 cinder glade, and 1 Valakut, the molten pinnacle are in play. Dryad of the Ilsian Grove is also in play. Primeveal Titan then hits the board and grabs 2 more Valakuts. How many Valakut triggers are created? I'm thinking just 4 triggers, maybe 6, but the application...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I'll never understand this scalper dilemma going on at walmarts. The product is already above msrp price. And sealed product takes a long time to appreciate. Even when good product sells out, its frequently available for cheap on tcgplayer and amazon. So how are these scalpers even making money? And...
