Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

i feel that the amount of card filtering and consistency that is created by preordain and ponder is a little unfair. i did say i was fine with preordain but the blue cantrips are really good overall.

lol @ foodchaingoblins, it's probably gonna be a short ban/unban list tomorrow anyway.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I second not unbanning twin or pod. i could warm up to preordain but in general I really don't want any cantrips unbanned. i would be excited for gsz unban but dryad arbor makes it annoying.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

The biggest blight on this format has always been expensive zen fetches and rarity bumps to stuff like tarmogoyf and dark confidant.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Not exactly stoked about a twin or pod unban. I guess I still have my spellskites so I shouldn't care either way. I'll probably play anyways for the nostalgia of seeing twin again.

Hypergenesis shouldn't be in the same sentence as hogaak or blazing shoal, that deck is way too inconsistent.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

My last 2 post were more or less vaguely aimed at ban/unban discussion of twin and pod. As well as people's frustrations over getting a favorite deck banned.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I don't get why Konami and Bushiroad are understood to be evil but Wizards gets held to some different standard. Something changed around 2016 with Battle for Zendikar. I think people should adpot a more short term focus to this game and it's formats.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

There's gotta be a smaller, less competitive store where ex-twin players can go. Just slot in 4 kiki-jiki and call it a day. There's always those stores that just offer a more casual atmosphere with just booster packs as prizes. Bogles Merfolk and others have fallen behind in the meta too. Birthing ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

My first thought was you can fetch this with summoner's pact Do you think that maybe the problem is that cards in general don't have an opportunity cost anymore? Ice fang coatl draws you a card, teferi time raveler draws you a card, arcums astrolabe draws you a card, emry lurker of the loch can fetc...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

i dont even know what to say about tron and dredge. they're not exactly fun but they're far away from what's ruining the game right now. i made a post about dredge 2 or 3 pages back, basically saying the format was better before prized amalgam.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

what are people's thoughts on force of negation? card doesn't seem overpowered but it's soured on me a bit. you force the control player to tap down with a good end of turn play but still get tripped up by a force.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/format-staples/modern/full/all Commonly played in modern. you can make of that whatever you want. way too many cards from recent sets seeing so much top play. As for the titan banning, my post was more aimed at the players of SCG columbus team modern who thought titan was...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I would like whirza combo to stay in modern which means thopter foundry, sword of the meek, and Urza should stay. But I feel something should go from the deck, and it's kinda unfair that they also get the best mana accelerator in the game. Mox opal can be used the turn you play it and is harder to i...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I actually do think modern is a dumpster fire. But no one can agree on what to ban. I guess Mox Opal is okay, it's mostly played in affinity, whirza combo, and lantern. Not convinced once upon a time is a problem. I'm weird in that I actually liked playing against that whirza combo deck that gen wav...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Wouldn't mind a swap banning of mox opal and colored artifact lands. I know you guys don't like it but I also like chrome mox. But if we're gonna ban stuff, can we start with oko, and just oko, before banning mox opal? Apparently people want primeval titan banned too which is crazy talk. He's just t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Well what do people want out of modern? I'd like if jund midrange was the best deck again but I don't think that's ever going to happen given all the cards that have entered the format over the past few years. Meta game wise, I think the game will be fine come this spring. My current complaint is th...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I'm convinced the format will be fine by the end of january. They'll probably ban oko. And then your tarmogoyfs and snapcasters and lightning bolts will go back to being playable. I'm not selling anything. I'm not really buying anything either. I'll just continue playing every other week at a small ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Not that it'll ever happen, but what about banning Prized Amalgam? Golgari Grave Troll wasn't played competitively after it's unbanning (briefly) until they started printing more of the recurring creatures. Dredge wasn't really played at all in modern before 2016 and I think people generally enjoyed...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Kinda wish g/b midrange was doing better. I guess the format is alright. You have arclight phoenix as tempo, ral lotus storm as your combo deck. Plenty of aggro, ramp, and control too. It's easy to port over a lot of modern decks. Too bad grim flayer, kalitas, and liliana of the last hope are gettin...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I think the twin and pod bans were good bans but I do miss the decks and wish they were back. I remember the decks being around 12 to 13% of the metagame. They definitely had a leg up on the competition. Grixis control, abzan, and jund also had large metagame shares too. Then you had the linear deck...
