Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Honestly the one way anything gets done is if it's in a place Wizards can't ignore it. Honestly pretty close to just selling out of the game completely at this point. I love modern and I hate to be pessimistic but it just goes from bad to worse every 3 months at the moment with shakeups in every sin...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

What I find sadder is that Konami is taking advantage of Wizards mishandling of Arena. Arena is getting only an update for Brawl next week according to their Monday announcement. Yet Konami decided to actually nerf decks that were destroying the meta in their Duel Links app, which also has a pc ver...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Dropping by again here to say that so far as our testing goes at mtgs.. Yorion has been very good. Also nice that Lurrus is taking most of the heat, so our 4/5 flyer feels safe from the hammer. It's a bit of an odd situation. MTGO has had companions for what feels like a month already (probably clo...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

You think so?? I find that impossibly unlikely based on anything I am reading, unless the hope that Summer temperature's wipe it out. (Sorry meant 4th quarter, mixed them up, will edit this) I mean, we certainly aren't going back to 2019 or 1k+ GPs in 2020, but (small) FNM's with plenty of increase...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

It isnt hit as much. Modern is more easily breakable, because it has a variety of old mistake cards that can create easily bannable synergies. About the numbers, its only logical. People have invested for 5 years in this format and when covid ends, the PTs will be modern(they were supposed to be on...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

The competitive format of now and of the future is pioneer. The only reason they probably care about modern, is MH2, which will make them the last quick buck out of it. Not printing a card because modern is the easiest format to break out of them all is wrong. Banning baubles and opals of the world...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Most of us do play other formats. There are very few paper Modern players left, because there are very few people who enjoy pissing money away, which is what Modern is. It is like a boat, gives you the best two days of your life, the day you buy it and the day you sell the sod. Modern is the Mtg eq...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Any rumors or word about Modern Horizons 2 or just Wizards making statements about Modern in general? Also, for what it's worth, I'll keep playing modern as long as I can play various tron decks :) I remember them noting MH was a success and 2 was likely to happen but no confirmation as such. Maybe...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

What makes these power creeps worse is it doesn't just hurt eternal formats it hurts standard and the very foundation of the game. If wizards aim is short term gains then they are probably doing a good job but Standard overall has been in decline for years. The issue is nobody cares about the format...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I am here to actually disturb your peace. I think companions are a super cool design, and I love it. Even Lurrus, I think it's not the problem, but busted old cards like LED and Mishra's Bauble. Don't touch companions, they make the game better! If anything needs to be banned, ban Bauble, and see w...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

A funny thing to note is companions will always exist in vintage as they aren't hurt by the rule of only restricting cards. Vintage has basically been changed overnight from these cards being printed

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

The new modern challenge where almost every deck is playing these new companions seems kind of disgusting. Even burn is playing Lurrus and the card is basically a free addition to the deck with no downside. I really wonder where modern will be in a few months meta wise with hopefully some more hate ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Your previous phrase about the competitivity of pioneer makes me say what I said. Its not to come out as an insult, but what your lack of serious explanation about it tells me. We can agree to disagree about a lot of stuff. I guess time will tell about when and if pioneer makes it into arena(and if...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Considering we are in the middle of a global pandemic and the world has practically stopped what makes you believe arena will have Pioneer in a year? I honestly have zero faith they could even manage it in 5 years with their current track record on arena. It took them a year to add a friends list an...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I left Modern for the same reason. And the gap between Tier 1 and Tier 2. Honestly, Modern needs a rotation. Old sets are awful and will keep breaking it over and over. WOTC also doesn't help. Maybe if MH, 8th and 9th edition and Veil of summer were banned, Modern would be better, but the format is...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Actually, at this point, maybe Veil of summer should stay in modern, because this astrofestival is actually being kept in check by tron decks trying to play a bomb with veil backup, or dredge/titan decks doing the same. With no veil, things are going to get worse. Mox Opal ban proved to be great, o...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

i actually had the chance to play against uro quite a lot in modern before covid broke out and the card didn't impress me. it seemed like the type of card that hammers fair decks like jund while losing to everything else. it just seemed so clunky. modern actually does look pretty diverse. not that ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Honestly with no paper magic for the foreseeable future and with magic being an expensive luxury I'm in agreement that we will have massive drop offs. This isn't even mentioning how card games digitally are far past their peak in the hearthstone days and how slow wizards at actually releasing anythi...

Wasn't hardened scales using the artifact base too? Does the lack of opal also makes hardened scales obsolete?
Yes for all intents and purposes the deck is also dead.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

To this day, I don't think fun factor is a true ban factor. Rather, I think it's a litmus test for Wizards to see if a deck needs to be adjusted. Looking back on decks hit for being "unfun": It's one test among many. While fun isn't outright stated as a banning criteria for Modern, data s...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Edit: I'll add that my personal stance is that Emry or Urza should have been banned outright. Opal was NOT the problem with this deck. And the only reason I bought into it was because of the price drops before people realize this deck is still one of the best things you can be doing in Modern. This...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

MTG arena just removed Historic ranked and continues to charge money for brawl as well. Even if Modern or Pioneer gets on this platform, wizards continues to show all they actually care about is standard. They literally punish people who make decks for this format by limiting when you can play these...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

It's been one day since the banning and no results are even out yet. We should have our first challenge results in a very days which will give us something to go off. Even this will only give us a preliminary look and I don't think we can make any real arguments for a week or two. Witch hunting righ...
