Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
Komandon I understand and appreciate the effort you took to craft the name. Flavor category is, however, entirely subjective. The name is part of it, but also the whole card, as complex as it was, screamed to me "legendary". I could be biased because of Subject16's legend that was really ...

MaRo says they wouldn't do it. It's fine, White's slice of the pie is questionably big as it is anyway. I'm still going to try it in my set though.

Final results: Caspernicus (33 total) mounts an astonishing comeback, having been 12 points down from rounds 1 & 2 compared to his opponent. You fought well, Raptorchan (32 total). Freyleyes 's Ashiok (36.5 total) edges out Komandon's Stonespeaker (35.5 total). haywire's unfortunate disqualifica...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
Should we be expecting subchallenges of a similar type going forward? Do we now have to play mind games with the judges? On February and afterwards, that's no to both, that's for sure. Isn't that dependent on the host? I mean unless you mean to host every MCC from February until the end of days ;) ...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
Sure, but in this case, it seems like meeting the challenges while not getting docked points was impossible. It feels like a trick. Who knows, maybe it was a trap and I never expected to see a card that would do it correctly? I had a professor at my university who gave us bonus assignments. One of ...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
I'm confused. It's a verses round but two judges. So? Is it just added to the total of round 1 and 2? Second question. I see others have done this but I for too much to explain why feel I need permission. Can I explain why I did certain things to my card. For example. Guessing flavor is more than j...

Land stun
Pillage
Sorcery (C)
Tap up to two target lands and put a stun counter on each of them. (If a permanent with a stun counter would become untapped, remove one from it instead.)
A 'soft' land destruction that is purely a tempo effect?

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
Sorry @haywire, we need to follow the protocol. In a month where submission order kind-of matters, I shouldn't let it slip. I'll still share my thoughts about your card, though you're effectively DQ'd.
@bravelion83 for visibility.

Re: Prepare - a morph-style mechanic
That's starting to feel more like suspend. Part of the joy of foretell is that, like morph, the card remains unknown to the opponent until it actually hits the field. You could mess with the cost to prepare a little bit, though; perhaps "Pay X to prepare this spell; it costs 1 less for each ot...

Re: Prepare - a morph-style mechanic
Oh well, I knew I saw this "cast it on a later turn" somewhere, but couldn't find it anywhere. What a fail. Thanks. This means I need to pull off a megamorph / disguise and add something here, like the aforementioned "draw a card". Would it justify the greater cost? Making an ef...

Prepare - a morph-style mechanic
Hello fellow designers, I'd like to gather feedback regarding the following mechanic. How do you find it? Countermeasure 1UU Instant (C) Prepare 1U ( {3} : Exile this card from your hand face down. Cast it on a later turn for its prepare cost. Activate only as a sorcery.) Counter target spell. Watch...

That's all good, but as someone actively looking to bend and break the rules I would like a hard reference, which sections of the CR are untouchable and which we can alter while designing our cards.

2. I think you're a little bit arguing in bad faith here, because as far as I can tell no one is suggesting that, we all want to allow new mechanics. The division is just about whether there are good ways to make it easier to do so without incurring penalties in elegance, viability, or quality. I w...

1. Mystical is overdoing it, instead, I'd just allow Lesson on non-spells, end of changes. If that is not a minor change, I don't know what is. 2. If we can't make cards that require CR changes, are new mechanics entirely banned in MCC? I don't like where this is heading. 3. Another design without g...

I already explained my view on the existing rules. expecting a contestant to do something that's not actually allowable in the existing Magic rules in order to get full points is beyond the pale. Eh, previously everybody got 2/2 points 99,9% of the time. This round everyone got 1/2. All fair. I just...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
@bravelion83: since all players in your bracket got 1/2 points in Main Challenge in January Round 2, I am curious: was there a way to earn 2/2? If so, how, what card must have been designed to get higher score? I don't think so. A binary MC like this is either met or not met, even if you make a cre...
