Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Blight Mound
Blight Mound isn't nearly as good as Pawn of Ulamog (or possibly Sifter of Skulls) because of the mana-add, but it's probably better than most other iterations of the nontoken dies → get a token style of card.

I like this card, but it's awful. Obligatory Sun Titan mention.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Common Type Duals
I think common duals are okay, but for a lot of colour combos/budgets, they're going to be overrated. For G/x decks, I think you're good to game Farseek , Nature's Lore , Three Visits , Skyshroud Claim , Hunting Wilds and Ranger's Path (though, you're probably not running all these). Outside of g/x,...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Curse of Bloodletting
Every time someone has played Fiery Emancipation at my tables, it's either been removed or the player has been removed. Curse of Bloodletting is probably less threatening. I guess these are all points that keep me leaning towards Dictate of the Twin Gods over it. This must send off the same warning...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Curse of Bloodletting
Amusingly enough, I think this card is a fantastic example of the difference in my and @3drinks play styles. I imagine he goes more for Fiery Emancipation and I go for Curse of Bloodletting . Sure, but why hit one for ten if I can hit three for fifteen? If Gut's skelies can hit you for 8 but I can ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - In Too Deep
I *really* liked In Too Deep when it was spoiled, but it turns out it's probably junk for being sorcery speed.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sejiri Steppe
Sir, how do you feel about Hallowed Ground? I realize it's not a legendary creature... but... Significantly lower - I'm willing to build around / lean into effects in the command zone, but less so for things in the 99. Maybe if you're running a ton of redundancy, I don't think it is an effect that ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sejiri Steppe
That said, I could see a timeline in which Sejiri Steppe goes up in value. If there is ever a legendary white creature like Mina and Denn, Wildborn that can bounce lands to hand, this seems like it would be a strong inclusion - just grant your commander protection every turn for some voltron shenan...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sejiri Steppe
I feel like it's pretty fringe, and it's probably not something I would run. I like to keep a high plains count for things like Emeria. However, I could see it happening in something with Crop Rotation, Elvish Reclaimer, Ruin Ghost and/or Knight of the Reliquary (hat-tip to cheonice for the last one...

Competes with Blind with Anger. The inflexibility (no haste) makes it a no for me.

Re: Witherbloom Strategy
I like Valentin. I think Lisette is pretty cool (she's just a bootleg Archangel of Thune), but Valentin is also pretty good. I played a Beledros version, and it was okay.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Vexing Puzzlebox
Ok, so I've played Vexing Puzzlebox a few times, and I think for practical purposes, it's rarely going to make it happen, and the effect isn't all that crazy. More than anything, it helps you with "when you roll" cards like Wyll.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Dark Petition
I was so hot on Dark Petition when Origins came out, I bought a playset at bulk rates. I was absolutely sure it would become a legacy storm staple, and potentially an EDH favourite. I've literally never played the copies I own. But, I think it has potential! I bet it's a blast with things like Howl ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Spellbinder
Yeah, that 7 and needing to have a Tormented Soul adjacent body that isn't summoning sick is a very steep cost. Though you might do it in an Ebondeath, Dracolich deck.....but what are you copying? Demonic Tutour? Snooze. Hatred? Again, snooze. Maybe something WB so you can add redundancy to fetch i...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Spellbinder
Some day. Some day I'm going to make this work.................... This is how I feel about it. I should probably get a copy, so I can actually give 'er a go. I think the degenerate play is Nexus of Fate or Savage Beating . After that, we're into what amounts to less-powerful Isochron Scepter terri...

Re: I don’t miss “Old EDH”
I don't mind modern edh. But nothing will beat the good ol' days of slamming incoherent jank against incoherent jank. Back in 2011, it was mostly guesswork and decks in the wild were way less predictable. The scariest boogeyman on the block was Zur the Enchanter . It was a beautiful time. Alas, too...

Re: I don’t miss “Old EDH”
I think I miss when things were less rails-attuned. Lemme explain. There's two prongs on this fork. First, when Wizards prints something now, it's usually some mechanical stand in. You build the " Edgar Markov deck". There's a clear way to build the deck in maximum efficiency, and most peo...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer
I could not bring myself to buy a copy of it. It's just too low to the ground when I like playing stompy stuff. Basically, it's not stompy enough.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Awaken the Ancient
I loved this card when it was printed. It struck me as pretty cool; you get a 4 mana 7/7 with haste (potentially, if you have a land that doesn't need to tap to cast this), but, you open yourself up for a 2-for-1. Probably not good enough for EDH then but I played it anyway, and certainly not good e...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Jorn, God of Winter
Jorn is okay. I found the best way to build him was just as a mana doubler in the command zone. I tried playing the clone game where you can have Jorn and the staff out at the same time (Play Staff, copy Staff, Legend Rule original to graveyard, use Staff-copy to resurrect Jorn) but it was just slow...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Razia's Purification
I think this would be soft-banned by most people I would play with. In a universe with MLD, I can see it getting a slot, if you can make your three permanents be something like Aurelia, Gisela, Iroas.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Jade Monolith
Jade Monolith is the absolute last card I needed for my 4th Edition complete set back in the day. When I got it, I was pretty happy. Surely there's some proper use for this thing. Also fun fact, this is a rare never printed since 4ED, yet also is not reserved in any way. It's actually been printed ...
