Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Dictate Cycle

I have 9 copies of Dictate of Erebos because it was bulk at one point. Can you believe that?! I think I like the Jund participants the most in this one, but my favourite one has to be Twin Gods. Just, surprise double damage on someone else's turn, or EOT before extra combats/turns progresses the gam...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Resurrection Orb

I think this is one of the coolest cards out of the Necron deck. I really liked the Necron deck, and I think this card slaps (even though it's not Nim Deathmantle)

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cut // Ribbons

I know this card isn't "good enough" for EDH, but... I play it anyway. I really like it, I think it has some good virtues as early removal, and Ribbons is a sub-par finisher, but it can do good work. Basically, I know it's bad at everything it does, but I think it's nice to run anyway. It'...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fangren Firstborn

Fangren Firstborn is pretty devotion heavy, which made it remarkable once, but we've seen so many green-heavy costs since then I don't think it's good for that anymore. It could be an okay persist enabler, but mono-green still has all of two persist creatures (mind you, there are few natively persis...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Zendikar Resurgent

I still like this card for ramp decks, but it's often difficult to see how you're going to pay 7, and then start playing stuff. If it goes unanswered, you can definitely go wild, but I find it has to be the thing you ramp into, and drawing it late often makes it dead unless you're sandbagging a lot.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Worldspine Wurm

JFC the price on Creativity. I bought a playset at 75c each at the end of 2019 and it's *nuts* now. SELL SELL SELL  I bought exactly a playset so I could play with it. I don't generally spec on cards, though I sometimes insulate myself against speculators if I think a card can be crazy good (...

Re: Secret Commander Fable of Wolf and Owl deck, is there a better general than Chulane?

I think I last played Fable in Moritte of the Frost , so I could have two, but there were lots of things to copy with Moritte. I would strongly consider Adrix and Nev, Twincasters , since it's basically a second Fable. Finding Fable shouldn't be too hard in simic; any creature search in green that c...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Storm's Wrath

Red damage wraths are really double-edged. Every Sword of Protection and Value that has protection from red has been printed: Sword of War and Peace , Sword of Fire and Ice , Sword of Sinew and Steel , and now, Sword of Forge and Frontier . This is double-edged; on the one hand, it won't necessarily...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Intangible Virtue

I feel with the decks focused on tokens, this card is highly playable. If you're not playing tokens, Always Watching exists. Mass Vigilance is a big deal for me; I like being able to just bash players while still having defenses available. Honourable mention to Brave the Sands which lets you chump b...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Arlinn, the Pack's Hope

For Flash, not quite as mana efficient as Vivien, Champion of the Wilds ... but, I think this is an interesting piece for Werewolf decks where the Flash can be important to manage the day/night cycle. Otherwise unremarkable, and probably not very good. I only like the impression it does of Gideon t...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Hazezon Tamar

Hazezon was one of the few Legends-Legends without a reprint (that I care about) that slipped through my grasp over the last decade.

I'm glad they did the reimaginings in Dominaria United, because most of these guys have aged so badly that they range well into unplayable/pricy-figurehead status.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Coffin Queen

I think Coffin Queen still holds its own. Yeah, yeah, dies to removal, etc. But, it's a way to continually dig something up, sacrifice it, do value stuff with it. It's not as efficient as something like Goblin Welder, but I think it still shines.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Enduring Renewal

Yeah, invoke prejudice is all sorts of messed up. Like man. How is that even okay. The 90's were wild I guess? They were. I remember in the 80s and 90s, people still pretty freely used racial/sexuality slurs, some of which I was on the receiving end of (even in Canada). I think we've made a lot of ...

Re: Arcane Proxy

The thing you cast from your graveyard isn't exiled (unlike Snapcaster, Mission Briefing and similar) The card is very much exiled. It's even more exiled than snapcaster since it's exiled before the spell is even cast, and exiled even if you choose not to cast the spell (or can't for some reason). ...

Arcane Proxy

Printed recently (at time of recording), Arcane Proxy is in 850 decks on EDHREC (less than 0.5% of decks). This card is the bastard stepchild of Snapcaster Mage without flash, and a higher mana cost (in either mode). The card's trigger irritatingly says "if you cast it", meaning there's no...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Magus of the Mirror

Mirrors: I've played these in the ole Selenia, Dark Angel life-swap deck. It's fun the first few times, but, people catch on and it becomes kind of repetitive. Mirror Universe's sticker price saddens me; I picked it up for a fraction of its current price, and knowing other people are paywalled out o...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Wickerbough Elder

I think it's hard for it to compete with many of the ETB guys out there right now, but, if Torpor Orb ever picks up in popularity, Wickerbough Elder has got it covered. I think the rest of the time, it only sees play in counter-manipulation decks, or maybe treefolk tribal or something. It's pretty u...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sphere of Annihilation

Flavour-wise, Sphere of Annihilation is a 10/10, what a sweet card. Mind you, I'm biased about a lot of that D&D IP stuff. Mechanically... I haven't played it. But, I think it's an interesting tempo/midrange play. You can drop so that you get the first chance to deploy post-wipe (similar to inst...

Re: Mono Colour Cycling Lands

Welcome to the forums!!! I think they're merely okay, and not an everydeck card. If there's synergy to be had (because you have a trigger for drawing cards, or the 'Nth card this turn'), they're a blessing since synergy in the land slot is pretty good. Outside of that, if the deck tends to hit every...

It is actually pretty solid in aggressive decks. If you are reliably attacking with two dudes, it's a worn powerstone that makes colored mana.
That ETBs untapped!

I think this card is pretty good. Has to be in a wide-ish deck, though. Pairs well with Bident of Thassa and analogues.
