Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Pain Lands

Hot take: I hate fetchlands and think they were a huge design mistake, particularly their ability to get nonbasics. The game would be more affordable, have more difficult deckbuilding considerations, and save everyone a lot of damn time by not having to shuffle every three turns if they never exist...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Pain Lands

I'm going to be honest... I'm a very entrenched player with Revised Duals, fetches, shocks, etc. and I still play Painlands in most decks. They're just... totally acceptable. One life per activation almost never matters when you even have to activate for damage, and they're a very reasonable additio...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sphinx of Enlightenment

This feels worse to me than Sphinx of Uthuun. I think I'd rather the fact or fiction than the Concentrate, but I could be wrong on which one is 'better', here.

Re: MCD - artifact based removal

I used to play Unstable Obelisk in a lot of decks, but, I think there are enough colour pie bends where you don't have to (cards like Ravenform / Resculpt , or green's ever-increasing quantity/quality of fight cards). Unless you're in monocolour, they don't seem necessary. That said, I totally run R...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon

I think Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon has a new life as a finisher for the mild-infect decks that came out with Phyrexia, All Will Be One. It's an acceptable game plan to play to get players corrupted in the midgame for the value bonuses on those cards, and then to finish players off with something l...

Re: What's the best thing to cheat into play?

I also have a Safana/Dungeon Delver deck: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/dC7k3icFlEmrX9oCxOYiVA I think the best 'hits' I've gotten out of Throne of the Dead Three are Sphinx of the Second Sun (because additional upkeeps with the Initiative are hype), Sheoldred, Whispering One , Diluvian/Sepulchral ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Merciless Eviction

This is largely but not completely outclassed by Farewell these days, yeah? But I remember how big of a deal this was when it first came out. I think you're right; it is outclassed by Farewell... but, I think it's possible a deck wants to play Farewell and Merciless Eviction. Also, Walkers tend to ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Spitting Image

As the resident limited expert (?) I'd kiiinda disagree. Like I don't think I'd ever cut it from any RU limited decks, Without wanting to debate you, "I don't think I'd ever cut it" feels like a ringing endorsement. I defer to your wisdom on this, though. [hr] Spitting Image has aged so b...

Forget about Limited, this card sees play in Legacy and Modern.
My comment about limited was more of a statement about why it was upshifted to rare.

I still think it has a fair bit of juice in 60x4 constructed formats.

How on Earth did this get upshifted to rare?
I think it's probably nuts in limited.

I really like this card, but it doesn't feel like it's worth the slot in EDH anymore, if it ever was.

Early Harvest is a card, for sure. If people can be mana positive after Brass's Bounty, they can be mana positive on this.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Dictate Cycle

I have 9 copies of Dictate of Erebos because it was bulk at one point. Can you believe that?! I think I like the Jund participants the most in this one, but my favourite one has to be Twin Gods. Just, surprise double damage on someone else's turn, or EOT before extra combats/turns progresses the gam...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cut // Ribbons

I know this card isn't "good enough" for EDH, but... I play it anyway. I really like it, I think it has some good virtues as early removal, and Ribbons is a sub-par finisher, but it can do good work. Basically, I know it's bad at everything it does, but I think it's nice to run anyway. It'...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fangren Firstborn

Fangren Firstborn is pretty devotion heavy, which made it remarkable once, but we've seen so many green-heavy costs since then I don't think it's good for that anymore. It could be an okay persist enabler, but mono-green still has all of two persist creatures (mind you, there are few natively persis...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Zendikar Resurgent

I still like this card for ramp decks, but it's often difficult to see how you're going to pay 7, and then start playing stuff. If it goes unanswered, you can definitely go wild, but I find it has to be the thing you ramp into, and drawing it late often makes it dead unless you're sandbagging a lot.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Worldspine Wurm

JFC the price on Creativity. I bought a playset at 75c each at the end of 2019 and it's *nuts* now. SELL SELL SELL  I bought exactly a playset so I could play with it. I don't generally spec on cards, though I sometimes insulate myself against speculators if I think a card can be crazy good (...

Re: Secret Commander Fable of Wolf and Owl deck, is there a better general than Chulane?

I think I last played Fable in Moritte of the Frost , so I could have two, but there were lots of things to copy with Moritte. I would strongly consider Adrix and Nev, Twincasters , since it's basically a second Fable. Finding Fable shouldn't be too hard in simic; any creature search in green that c...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Storm's Wrath

Red damage wraths are really double-edged. Every Sword of Protection and Value that has protection from red has been printed: Sword of War and Peace , Sword of Fire and Ice , Sword of Sinew and Steel , and now, Sword of Forge and Frontier . This is double-edged; on the one hand, it won't necessarily...

I feel with the decks focused on tokens, this card is highly playable. If you're not playing tokens, Always Watching exists. Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Arlinn, the Pack's Hope

For Flash, not quite as mana efficient as Vivien, Champion of the Wilds ... but, I think this is an interesting piece for Werewolf decks where the Flash can be important to manage the day/night cycle. Otherwise unremarkable, and probably not very good. I only like the impression it does of Gideon t...
