Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

That's because the going rate for broad spectrum removal - even bounce - is closer to the 3 mana that Otawara, Soaring City typically costs (though it also will often cost 1 or 2)...and because it can be played from the graveyard and loam looped. Creature removal is a helluva lot worse than things ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Otawara hits broad spectrum and has cost reduction and can be loamed. And no life loss. And blue. It's as close to infinity better than this thing as possible. Your argument was that four mana was a lot for a removal spell stapled to a land. Otawara is a four mana removal spell stapled to a land an...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I think you're overrating it and people are overplaying those other lands. It's worse than takenuma, agadeem at least and those others are mostly garbage :D I guess the The Black Gate is alright. Tough to evaluate that one since it's so damn awkward Almost all of them are bad, but them's the totali...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

For what it's worth, I've had the most success against Rhystic Study by utilizing table talk to archenemy them and act as a friendly reminder to pay your taxes, as well as beginning to play very conservatively.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

It's not Boseiju, Who Endures good, but I would play it over Agadeem, the Undercrypt , Cabal Pit , Ifnir Deadlands , Shizo, Death's Storehouse , Spymaster's Vault , Takenuma, Abandoned Mire , The Black Gate , Tomb of Urami , and Urborg in the majority of decks over a basic Swamp. The only trivially ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Having a hard time imagining most black decks not running Fell the Profane in most scenarios. I can't be alone in thinking that these are completely insane, particularly in EDH. MDFCs shouldn't be a no-brainer over a basic land.

I am upset.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Spymaster's Vault is absurd. A land that has the reminder text "draw X" will in no way ever be abused, no sir.

Re: Phelddagrif: Show Weakness to Hide Your Strength

What does everyone think about Strix Serenade ? I think it's worse than Swan Song but it IS another one mana Counterspell and that ain't nothing. I like it. While artifacts, creatures, and planeswalkers are the easiest permanent types to deal with when they're in play, especially for a deck with as...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

I'm not sure why you think a "true dilemma" requires any of that. You can still act in self-interest without having a firm grasp on the outcomes. Faulty input doesn't change motivation. The concept of a prisoner's dilemma requires those things at least, er, classically. It can be a lower ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

i think the necrobloom is straight up OP! wahoo! makes tayam look awful It doesn't take a lot to make Tayam, Luminous Enigma look bad outside of Devoted Druid combo or whatever. It's certainly pushed, but compared to what's been coming out lately, particularly in this set, it's just a drop in the b...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

The whole point is that it's thought of as a prisoners dilemma but it isn't really. In a true dilemma you have a reasonable idea of the outcome and it doesn't get progressively worse when each person defects. And it doesn't necessarily get better for you to defect. I'm not sure why you think a &quo...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

I've found that to rarely be the case (auto-archenemy for the rest of the game/until it's gone), and even when it was...it's still a draw engine/stax piece, either feeding me cards or slowing everyone down. Both of which make it harder for opponents to kill me. There was the assertion above that ta...

Re: Diminishing returns on "better" cards

Otherwise you're really just comparing Hero's Downfall to Bitter Triumph . Yeah, one of these is better but it's not raising your win %, statistically speaking, to play one over the other. Let's say there's a mono-black deck that wants to run seven pieces of spot removal. Deck A runs the following:...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

https://i.imgur.com/sUyBIIW.png Well, it's officially spoiled. Not only is it Abzan, not only is it lands-oriented, not only is the art great, but it's also available in profile treatment, which is the best treatment. This is absolutely the kind of card made for me. Of particular note is that it se...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

Doesn't this apply to all sources of card draw? There're a ton of card draw options that either get you specific cards or get you a bunch of cards right now, or let you look at a lot of cards. Or convert at a much higher rate. Personally I'm far more on bomb draw these days just because I'd rather ...

Re: Diminishing returns on "better" cards

Once you reach a certain point of deckbuilding and getting a firm grasp of the fundamentals of the format, this is the fate of your decks. It becomes a game of inches until some new card is printed and blows it all apart, at which point you get to rebuild and reconsider past options. While I really ...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

Good point was raised though, that Rhystic can get you ahead but if it gives you anything good is random, so it is kind of a trap to play it. Doesn't this apply to all sources of card draw? Certainly, there's more variance to Rhystic Study because your opponents can always pay the one but by and la...

Don't worry, in five years there's gonna be untapped duals with game ending spells on the front.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Disciple of Freyalise is incredible. An optionally untapped, colored mana producing land that is also Disciple of Bolas? Bonkers. If you're heavily in green and your commander has 4+ power, I think it'll be pretty difficult to justify not running this card.

Re: The Necrobloom: Datura stramonium

Much like DH's deck Earthcraft is probably superior to Spelunking most of the time; it's a ton more value outside of the combo, even at the "downside" of having to fish out a forest. which you likely want to do most of the time anyway. It's true that Spelunking doesn't technically require...

The Necrobloom: Datura stramonium

Have you seen this %$#%? https://i.imgur.com/cIqvfGp.png A probable Magic card printed in this foul year of Our Lord, two-thousand and twenty four. I had sort of taken a break from the game months ago, but then I see this and throw together what is ultimately the combination of two decks I've been t...

So because of all of the Fallout stuff I realized I should probably try one of them (and also realized that I have four of them already via the free games the Epic Store is always putting out). I don't get the controversy around real world figures. We've had Jesus of Nazareth for decades.

I like Arcade Gannon. He's my favorite Fallout character and it's nice to see his card is neither terrible nor pushed.

Anybody watched Hazbin Hotel? I binge watched it in a couple days while baby was sleeping. Story is just okay but damn does it feel good to watch some some 2d animation that is unapologetically a musical. Remember when we used to get those? Alastor is a total edgelord but I don't care, I loved ever...
