Re: SCD: Rhystic Study
The floor of Skullclamp is you have an artifact and no creatures, or no creatures with low enough toughness to die on equip and no sac outlet. The floor of Splendid Reclamation is you have no lands in your yard and are holding a 4-mana sorcery. The floor of Genesis Wave is you don't have a ton of m...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study
"not good in most scenarios" isn't an argument it's a value judgment :D
--
The floor is way lower a- it's one sided sphere of resistance that makes you the target :D

yar, has to even if no other targets (which can be awkward if you'd rather dredge him).PrimevalCommander wrote: ↑2 days agoThis doesn't have that pesky word "another" so can it target itself with the death trigger to send it to the top of library?

yea, songs is dumb in most versions of this deck. Cabal Ritual is almost surely correct in most shells I think.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Golgari Thug
This card is probably the best of the dredge cards, you can do a lot of filthy stuff with it. GGT and Stinky have their space.
There were quite a few games where I looped this with Solemn Simulacrum and a sac outlet :D Can do similar with Skullclamp. Clamping thug to dredge thug is so stupid.

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study
I get hating it for being obnoxious, or not loving it as a late game draw, but the arguments otherwise just don't hold up. The only other argument I made is that it has a lower ceiling than synergistic draw--costing more mana doesn't mean anything if you win :D Summing up - it's not a great topdeck...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
With Liliana, Untouched by Death enough mana just equals game over too which is gross. Chains like... get Lili get culling get songs of the damned get cabal ritual get altar gg type stuff lol. Definitely a reason to think on culling the weak at least and maaaybe cabal ritual. -- Generally speaking i...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Six - First of all, i'm curious about the implications of this card lore wise, but this isnt the place for it, so I'll stay in another lane. This is a great card in Loam decks right? @pokken is this something you would think about in your FoD deck? I'm considering Six is pretty solid. I am not sure...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
Yeah, I think that card is a slamdunk being able to get lands. I don't want to play many 4 drops but grim tutor on a zombie is stupid. Pop it in an intuition package with Dread Return and Gravecrawler and it's basically a backup Sevinne's Reclamation (as a way to get Phyrexian Altar ) most of the ti...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study
I think it's fine to spend more mana depending on the deck; I just threw out 12 as a number for whatever reason but I'm more on stuff like: - skullclamp where I'm in control and gonna draw a bajillion cards - splendid reclamation where I'll both draw and ramp - genesis wave where I'll end the game -...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study
Doesn't this apply to all sources of card draw? There're a ton of card draw options that either get you specific cards or get you a bunch of cards right now, or let you look at a lot of cards. Or convert at a much higher rate. Personally I'm far more on bomb draw these days just because I'd rather ...

Re: Diminishing returns on "better" cards
I am at the point with most decks where - 1) upgrades are incremental 2) there are so many cards I want to play that would be perfectly fine Part of that I think is that there's just such a huge volume of high power cards now -- I've been lately cutting tutors extensively to just play more good card...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cosima, God of the Voyage
I enjoy Cosima, God of the Voyage // The Omenkeel a lot. It's hard to build around because the color doesn't really support it, but it's a card that can do a metric ton of work in a UGx landsy deck (which is kinda one of my spirit animals). So it provides a couple fairly fun interesting ways to buil...

Performance issues
It might just be me but it's only MTGN for me. Feels like some database based performance issues if I had to guess; seen a lot of random MySQL down messages, and it seems to dog out when going into threads particularly, or enumerating threads in a forum. Forum lists also a bit sluggish.

Re: Samut: Play Dudes, Turn Sideways
Freestrider Lookout felt absurd. The miss rate was a little higher than I would like, but I got a ton of triggers off it from Armored Scrapgorger. I'm not sure if it would have been as good without a free crime trigger every turn, but I also had other crime enablers. I mean...samut can do crime in ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ashnod's Altar
I have recently developed an appreciation for Ashnod's Altar as a fair mana source. It's pretty fun to make a huge board and threaten then respond to sweepers with 20 thrasios activations. Alright you did it! I first saw it in that light in my buddy's Tana and tevesh deck that just used the mana fai...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
Hey guys something I have been wondering about for a decent amount of time is what any of your metas look like? For my own meta we are usually a group of folks collecting to play high powered casual. Some of the signature decks within the meta is a: Toxrill, the Corrosive - heavy on the control wit...

Raffine for sure. Or possibly tymna and Malcolm or sakaCyanideSuicide wrote: ↑5 days agoIf yall were to build a reanimator tribal that focused on combat rather than more aristocrat combo would you still focus on varina? Re: SCD: Recurring Nightmare
Chthonian Nightmare is coming in MH3, which I'm sure will prompt new discussion around Recurring Nightmare. I'll call out that its ETB trigger is arguably a downside, because it gives a window for opponents to respond before it gets returned to hand. Not quite as oppressive (because it's harder to ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Dreadhorde Arcanist
I always think this card is going to be awesome but then it never lines up. I think I'd only want to run it if your commander actively provides pump, because I'm always missing a piece. Even in Xenagos, God of Revels the pump to 2 was not reliable enough and my build runs *tons* of <3cmc instants/so...
