Re: Rankle and Torbran

I played this deck for the first time in person and I think it went alright. I ended up losing due to running out of gas but things worked reasonably well before that. I was able to keep the board mostly clear with the sac effects though one player was able to get out of it decently. Rankle kept goi...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

I tried to play this deck yesterday and I didn't do much at all with it. I ended up taking a mulligan 6 times!!! I still kept 6 because I still wanted to play the game but even then, I missed a couple land drops and took forever to get to my third land drop. And Sensei's Divining Top is what actuall...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control

I have had some good uses out of it but those came about in my Jenara and Windgrace decks more than anything. I think it is good here too, I just haven't seen it much. The main issue is that it is slow. That is, it obviously isn't doing anything until the *next* spell is cast. This could mean that t...

Re: Daretti, Scrap Savant

I have been testing this deck in between longer tests with my new Rakdos deck (currently helmed by Rankle and Torbran ) and it has been going fairly well. I just finished a game where I was able to keep things in check using Platinum Emperion to make sure I didn't die and things like Cityscape Level...

Re: Rankle and Torbran

That is one of the weaknesses of the platform which simply ties into one of the strengths. Because a game can be found online in a matter of minutes, it is easier for people to just give up on a game that isn't going quite their way. I think I too have only seen one player in person ever get to a po...

Re: Rankle and Torbran

Played another game and things are looking up for this build with Rankle and Torbran at the helm. It wasn't a perfect representation since one person scooped immediately and another scooped after I cast Kroxa for some reason. They had 6 cards in hand so they didn't lose much. But whatever. So, it wa...

CUTS 1 Mountain 1 Mishra, Claimed by Gix 1 Eradicator Valkyrie ADDS 1 Loyal Apprentice 1 Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia 1 Ophiomancer Here are some changes I decided to go with. Ophiomancer was a good suggestion earlier and I decided to try a couple other "consistent" token producers. The...

Re: Mogis, God of Slaughter

That was one path I thought about taking and it just ended up being one that I don't like as much. It is a reasonable way to take the deck though. Things like Sulfuric Vortex and maybe even Underworld Dreams or something like that to keep damage occurring each turn could work. As to the experience o...

Re: Mogis, God of Slaughter

The first couple games with Rankle and Torbran at the helm have been a bit more fruitful. I don't seem to be the immediate target and having a creature in the command zone is fairly relevant in terms of combat in general. The two games I played both had a K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth deck in them (I assu...

Re: Mogis, God of Slaughter

I finally managed to win a game but it was a bit hollow. One of the players was targeting me fairly heavily but it wasn't too bad. One of the other people (playing Karametra) decided to go after the person going after me since they were a fairly large threat. The person being attacked chose to time ...

Re: Mogis, God of Slaughter

I have Erebos which is a good card on its own, even ignoring the "Can't gain life" effect. Ferocidon is probably a good option as well if I want to go further into that as it also ensures more damage is dealt. I am not sure how deep I want to go on the effect though. The other two cards ar...

Re: Expropriate

I just played against a player who cast Expropriate on Turn 5. One player, for some reason, voted Time (which led to 2 time votes including the casters vote). They used the first extra turn to cast Omniscience into Kozilek, Butcher of Truth which basically just ended the game. The second extra turn ...

Re: Mogis, God of Slaughter

That's not a bad idea. I will have to see if I can find room for it. Another thing I probably need is some lifegain somewhere in here. I have played 3 games online and I am targeted quite heavily so I don't think people like Mogis. I just had a game where I was at 4 life and got hit down to -1 to lo...

Re: Mogis, God of Slaughter

After some further testing, and a quick game (in which I lost to a Rafiq of the Many deck), I decided to go with the following changes: CUTS 1 Cavalier of Night 1 Captain Lannery Storm 1 Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer 1 Magda, Brazen Outlaw 1 Blood Artist 1 Zulaport Cutthroat 1 Lyzolda, the Blood Witch 3 ...

Rankle and Torbran

I have been finding that too many of my decks fit within the same general archetypes: control or midrange. With a few that are a hybrid of the two. When I play online, this isn't the biggest deal but now that I am trying to get back into playing in person it is becoming a bigger issue. This is mostl...

Daretti, Scrap Savant

I have been wanting to (re)build this deck for a while now. I had this built a long time ago and I enjoyed playing it. I like the idea of an artifact deck but including Red gives me a lot of cool Artifact matters cards to go along with it. It does introduce a little tension in the deck (such as not ...

Re: Lord Windgrace

I am with you on that. Craterhoof currently sees play in just my Jenara deck (and even there I tend to slow roll it since it isn't my favorite). It is hard to deny their effectiveness of course. I think the single target X spells go too far in the other direction that they start to hit upon the prob...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

That's a good idea. I was looking at that based on some of your comments in your thread and I think it ends up being a pretty good option. I think that is an easy swap if for Cosima especially at least.

Re: Lord Windgrace

That's not a bad idea actually. It plays in the same space as Apex Devastator but does it better. I am not opposed to it as it can do quite a bit to refill the board and, like you said, it is non-deterministic which can be fun.

Re: Lord Windgrace

That is my mindset as well. As you pointed out, there needs to be an endgame somewhere, but for some reason I just don't enjoy these as much. Ob Nixilis is much more interesting as he at least plays into the "lands matter" theme. Part of the issue is finding an alternative late game "...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen

I think those can be good options. I like Ransom mostly because it is an Instant and the Ring tempting me seems like it could be useful. Not enough to include things just for it, but it is an additional effect that isn't altogether worthless. Hostile Negotiations is one that I got a while back and n...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

I played this game last night but the games blended together so I will just offer some thoughts and highlights from the game. I was able to get down Ephara on turn 4 but didn't have a lot of creatures early on. I did get a few later with one being Faerie Mastermind which is as good as I expected so ...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen

I haven't done a lot with tweaking this deck but I decided to pull it out last night. I played enough games that some blended together so I will just go over my thoughts on it. I started out with just casting a couple draw spells and then casting Undead Warchief to get something going. I was able to...

Re: Lord Windgrace

I got to play this deck yesterday but I played a few games so they all sort of meld together. Instead of a real game summary, I will just offer up some of my thoughts from the game. First, I did have a situation where I should have lost if one of the opponents had timed some of their actions differe...

@materpillar

205.3d. An object can't gain a subtype that doesn't correspond to one of that object's types.

There isn't a way for something to have a subtype not associated with a card type. It can't gain them and, if it loses the card type, it loses the associated subtypes
