Re: Gisela, Blade of Goldnight

I added in Sword of Sinew and Steel and cut Avatar of Fury . Based on the last comments, I feel this is the best option for making room for this Sword and I definitely wanted to make room for it. I didn't really see anything in ELD that stood out to me as something I wanted to include so I won't be ...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

pokken I think you are right in that aspect. It definitely wasn't something that is going to force me to remove the Ouphe. It was just a interesting anecdote, and a situation I hadn't thought of until in game. Overall, the loss of my Pod is likely worth any resistance the Ouphe of...

Re: Cataclysmic Gearhulk questions

Yep, you can do that. If any permanent has more than one type, you get to choose which type you are choosing it for the Gearhulk's ability. In this way you could end up with 3 creatures if you wanted: an artifact creature, enchantment creature, and "normal" creature. And the Active Player ...

Re: Commander 2019 Post Mortem

I didn't really care for the decks or themes. Of the commanders, I only found Greven, Predator Captain interesting. I might end up building a Rakdos deck built around him. But, other than that, nothing stood out to me. I didn't find enough of the new cards to be interesting enough to even care about.

Re: multiple control turns vs extra turns

Any control change effects regarding controlling a player will apply to the turn the say they do. If you cast and copy Worst Fears, those effects apply to the same turn. They do not stack; they overwrite one another. The same with Mindslaver. If you Mindslaver them prior to them taking the turn you ...

Re: 75%

I think 75% is viewed more philosophically rather than mathematically. That is, it is simply a designation given to a deck that plays powerful cards, or tries to be "tuned" to an extent, without going all out into the "best" cards. There isn't a formula that is used to get to tha...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Lord Windgrace

Lord Windgrace has been the best Jund deck I have built. And by that, it is one that plays the least like my Karador deck. Having 2 colors overlap tended to make the decks play very similarly but using him as a lands-matter general has been fun and quite powerful. I don't do any combos or MLD with h...

Re: Slightly Budget 3 Color Manabase

I personally dislike the Fast Lands since they will, relatively often, enter tapped. The Temples always enter tapped. I would go with the Shocks, Checks/Buddy, Pain, Battle/Tango lands as my starting base. I think the pain lands are often overlooked due to costing life, but always entering untapped ...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

The sac outlet I want to add need to be on a creature. Viscera Seer is top of the list since it costs 0 mana to sac things (unlike Izoni and Disciple). And being 1 mana makes it easier to get off Protean Hulk when Hulk gets a 5 drop. One other thing I forgot to mention above is that I did have a sit...

Re: Gisela, Blade of Goldnight

I played this deck the other night and I won with it. I was playing against Anje Falkenrath and Prossh, Skyraider of Kher . The only thing that really came up of note in the game is Anje attempted to go infinite with Worldgorger Dragon and Prossh killed it causing all their permanents to be exiled. ...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

I got another game the other night and it, again, went pretty well. The game basically hinged on False Prophet . I don't really want to go to far in depth in the game, but one situation stood out for a couple reasons. First, the board state was False Prophet, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed , Protean Hulk ,...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

I played a 5 player game with this the other night (man I hate 5 player games). I don't remember all the different generals. I ended up using Cyclonic Rift twice, Mana Drain twice, and a number of other things just to stay alive. I ended up at 4 life towards the end and I was digging hard for my Res...

SDCC 2019 Promos On Sale

I am not sure if anyone else posted this and I missed it, but this seems to have flown under the radar pretty heavily. And, since I already picked up my copy, I figured I would share :) As they have done in the past, Wizards has listed the SDCC promos online for sale. The link is: https://magicstore...

Re: Lord Windgrace

I wouldn't mind moving into having a larger number of Walkers in the deck. Liliana and Chandra seem the best of the ones you mentioned mostly for their Wrath abilities. Freyalise and Vraska are good removal, ramp, token makers (depending on what the current board state dictates). With the thought of...

Re: Lord Windgrace

I got to bust out this deck the other night against Karona the False God (God Tribal) and something else (I need to type these summaries up sooner or write things down). Maybe this is the game they were playing Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain . Lord Windgrace came down on turn 4 with no protection. The...

I got to play this deck again the other night and it went well. I played against Sevinne, the Chronoclasm and another general (I can't remember the one the other player played). It might have been Vaevictus Asmadi, the Dire . Oddly enough, not a whole lot happened this game. I basically just cast on...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

I have mentioned it in the past, but I truly believe that mana rocks in Karador (and, for me, in basically any green deck) is not where you want to be. There are a ton of 3 mana creatures that fetch out lands, give you fodder for Karador to become cheaper later on (when they die), and can be recurre...

Re: Commanders and the Deck

Being exiled (that is, having the exile action taken upon it) still allows the Commander to be moved to the Command Zone even from the Exile Zone due to the rule in question looking for the action, not the result. It is a bit of a stretch to say something is being put into the library from the libra...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Strength Through Resiliency

I like your summary above. I think the comments do apply to any Karador deck since we generally want to play towards the long game (unless the intent is to set up a combo somewhere). How has Vindictive Lich been so far? I used to have it in my Teysa deck and it didn't seem like it did enough there u...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

DrSeaMonster Overall, I like you list but the curve seems kind of high. While that works a bit more into your theme since you seem to be doing a lot more with the reanimation aspect as well as a few mass reanimation spells I still think there might be a lot there where, if you don...

I finally found some time to get back and play some Magic and look at the lists others posted above. I will have some comments on theirs but I want to give a summary of the game I played last night. I played against Etrata the Silencer and the Mystic Intellect precon with Sevinne, the Chronoclasm at...

Re: Phasing, Vehicles and Equipment?

Right. The game doesn't care about stuff that is phased out (except for making it phase in) so it will never see them when State Based Actions are checked.

Re: Phasing, Vehicles and Equipment?

The effect making the Vehicle a creature does indeed wear off once it phases out. It will phase back in as a non-creature vehicle. However, that doesn't stop Equipment or Auras phasing in along with it. The rules state that the things attached to it will phase in with it so they do. The Equipment wi...

Re: Urza's ability

No. The cost of the ability is tapping the Astrolabe, but the source of the ability is Urza and he is not Snow. So the mana he produces is not mana from a snow source.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Wow, I have to say I am fairly happy with wizard's ban changes today. I don't play legacy but the standard / modern changes look great to me. I honestly didn't think wizards had it in them to ban faithless looting . I might have to start playing Legacy just so I can use Fastbond , since someone won...
