Re: EDHREC All-Time Top Commanders by Timeline

Anyway, has anyone at EDHrec ever addressed the fact that they don't get data from Tappedout? That seems like a big, if not the biggest deckbuilding website out there. They've said on their podcast that the Tappedout guys believed it would add an unnecessary amount of strain to their servers to pul...

Re: Ponder vs Serum Visions

Definitely Ponder. It's typically one of the first inclusions in any deck with blue I put together. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is that Ponder gets significantly better when combined with shuffle effects, because it lets you draw just the cards you're interested in. Serum Visions gets w...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I'm driving a 2019 Civic right now, which replaced the 14 year old 170k miles Escape. I usually get a little better than 30 mpg, which is a significant improvement on the last car even though it's not quite at hybrid efficiency. I'm surrounded by EV charging at work (tech company) - all of the parki...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Super off topic, I put in a pre order for a tesla truck lol. I am probably only like 60% convinced that I will buy one but I hope it works out. Its so far off in the future that its hard to say if it will work out for me financially. You're going to be in great shape when some kind of dystopian fut...

I wonder if i could hire someone to do this for me... :hmm: at least the initial data entry
Data entry only has to happen once. The real trick is keeping the physical collection organized enough for it to be a useful tool.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I want to build a mindless beatdown gruul deck. I was thinking Nikya. Any other suggestions, beside Xenagos? If you don't mind ignoring a color, Samut, Voice of Dissent is great. Efficient beater + Fervor in the command zone and you can build the deck with no ways to produce white mana without a pr...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I think.... I might be building Arcades Sabboth . It definately has Craw Wurm and Serra Angel in the 99. Might want to dial down the power level a bit there. Side note, what's y'alls favorite Serra Angel artwork? I have to give it to the classic . I'd still like to pick up a LEB copy someday purely...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Tilling Treefolk

I've definitely run it in the past. It's generally outshined by Ramunap Excavator or Crucible of Worlds unless there's value to having cards in hand for whatever reason. It has a slight edge if your meta is afraid of that kind of recursion effect in that it gets you two lands back in the face of rem...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Apparently SCG has dropped legacy support.... It's less of a thing than people are making out of it. They only ran events in the eastern US anyways, so if you were anywhere outside of the region the only thing disappearing is the 1-2 days of coverage a year legacy got from them. SCG stopped running...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Those lands aren't doing anything for me.

That's probably good, with the Commander related announcement today. 70+ new legends in a draft set should mean plenty of things to play around with next year.

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

Yeah, the current basic count is already super greedy. I know it's not a good plan to cut that down even further and I won't actually do it given that this is much lower than I like to be anyways. Izoni has been surprisingly solid. I wasn't expecting to like her much and she is very susceptible to G...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

I see a lot of creatures and a lot of Reclamation Sage effects in here. But I notice you aren't running Aura Shards . Given you aren't a token deck I guess its kind of ok not to run it but given how many rec sage effects you have in here I thought its at least worth consideration. Birthing Pod migh...

Karador, Ghost Chieftain

I've spent some time commenting on other Karador threads so I'm finally getting around to posting my own build around the general. Commander 1 Karador, Ghost Chieftain Creatures 1 Apprentice Necromancer 1 Athreos, God of Passage 1 Beast Whisperer 1 Blood Artist 1 Caustic Caterpillar 1 Doom Whisperer...

Re: Mono-R Control with Jaya Ballard!

Yeah. I was definitely paying too much attention to the loyalty uptick ability until I saw someone play her in modern Jund, where she did ridiculously good work. I'm not sure I have the low CMC spell density to really take advantage of her but I was impressed enough to try. Anyone give any thought t...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

I disagree on both of those. Without any other taxing effects or mana denial, Thalia is going to drop off rapidly and this deck is already fairly grindy, i.e. aiming for late game plays when everyone is likely to have more developed mana. Adding a 1 mana tax to noncreature spells is something that's...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

The majority of your sweepers only hit creatures, so Deafening Silence only interferes with that plan when it comes to Bane of Progress and Pernicious Deed (partially). It feels more in the same vein as Collector Ouphe where it's impeding board development without shutting it down. You don't have a ...

Re: Mono-R Control with Jaya Ballard!

You're interested in largely the same recent stuff I am. I'm very interested in hearing how Chandra, Acolyte of Flame is particular plays for you. That was one that went completely under my radar initially. I'm not really interested in either of the {0} abilities and I guess I'm used to ignoring the...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain

That's the issue I've always had with Kokusho. The decks where I want it most aren't the decks that are using it as a reasonably costed evasive beater with a nice death trigger, they're the decks that can reasonably expect to trigger it several times over the course of the game. If I'm doing that, i...

Re: Small yet satisfying plays

Small, finite value plays are my jam. Recruiter of the Guard for Apprentice Necromancer , return Reveillark , sac Recruiter and Lark to bring back Recruiter and Necromancer is delightful. There are obviously a couple extra pieces needed there, like a sac outlet and a haste source. Anything where I c...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Jeskai Ascendancy

This entire cycle is high on the list of cards I like but rarely play. The combination of wedge colors and relatively narrow effects makes them tough to fit into decks even though I think they're at a pretty good power level and CMC. For Jeskai Ascendancy in particular, it's clearly a powerful card....

Gotta love when one player blows up all lands and creatures thinking they can then take a win with a war Liliana and Elspeth, Sun's Champion but leaves you with Gauntlet of Power , Mana Crypt and Pyromancer's Goggles right after you drew a grip full of lands off Kozilek, the Great Distortion and ha...

I don't follow the tours or anything,so when was the last time there was a legacy event or hell a vintage one? Both of them get played at Eternal Weekend, which is one per year in both North America and Europe. Legacy occasionally sees larger tournaments and up until now has been part of team event...

Betrothal > EDH decks, but don't spend a ton on either. Trust me, expenses can get really out of hand with weddings. For sure. I was working for a wedding company when I got engaged, so I got a bunch of stuff for the ceremony and the sound system for the reception at cost. Wife and I did a lot of s...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Have to say....the prevalent plan for Chulane is kinda boring. Seems to be spam Shrieking Drake , combo out with Aluren / Laboratory Maniac , or chew through the deck and machine gun with Walking Ballista . Doesn't even seem a lot of fun to pilot. I'd love to see someone do a different thing with h...
