Re: [Announcement] Ban List Update

Painter is a card I'm only now discovering for the first time, an I frankly can't see how one would play it: anyone cares to enlighten me? It's very much a support card. There's a couple nastier combos left: Grindstone , which mills out a player a turn, and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon , which repeatedl...

I'm still also awaiting the day we get The Fourth Sister of Gisela, Bruna and Sigrada.
This is a good one. I'm always down to build an interesting angel legend or an interesting BW legend and I've seen this mentioned before, so there's community interest as well.

Estrid Enchantress

This is one of my two more permanent lists. I'm a long time fan of enchantress strategies and Estrid is the best option for a grindier version of the deck. The gameplan here is permanent based disruption into token beats. General 1 Estrid, the Masked Creatures 1 Academy Rector 1 Argothian Enchantres...

Re: Mono-R Control with Jaya Ballard!

The banlist update today means a new elephant (scarecrow) in the room for Jaya decks: Painter's Servant . I'm of course going to try it out - it has the obvious use of turning Jaya's first ability into Vindicate , but cheaper and instant speed. It also plays nicely[?] with Ugin, the Spirit Dragon an...

Re: [Announcement] Ban List Update

Very reasonable changes. I don't think Iona has ever been a net positive for the format and the color identity rules have always made it awkward. Engine has been borderline at best for its entire existence. The things that make it problematic (plenty of mana ramp and card draw) are things that most ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Didn’t get to prerelease myself. We had a meeting with the bank to start the ball rolling on a house purchase, which went well. I didn’t really have much I wanted from this release anyway. The legends are cool enough but nothing I absolutely must build (which if I’m being honest is a good thing bec...

Re: Do you ever use green signets?

My actual "real" answer is that 2cmc ramp is better than 3cmc ramp, and a two land hand with a signet has a much better chance of being kept over a two land hand with a Cultivate. Agree with this. The followup question is how much 2 CMC ramp do you run in a typical deck? I usually go for ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Back to this thread, I doubt there is anyone here on my end of the world, and less so on my nocturnal habits, but I'm Pacific-Northwest. There was one from sally that had the same town as me, but I haven't seen them come over here yet. I'm in the same time zone, so closer than the multitude of Euro...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Good plan. Phil's was a great resource but it hadn't been updated in years (which makes sense because Phil hadn't been online in years as far as I know). We could use a fresh one. [mention]cryogen[/mention], what's the best way to ask questions about existing and future BBCode functionality (thread ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Waterwhirl

I don't believe there's a strictly better version of this available, but yeah, I can't imagine wanting to pay six mana for this even in a really casual/budget deck. There's at least a couple: Mystic Confluence and Quicksilver Geyser . This is way too overcosted for me to even consider it, especiall...

Re: Do you ever use green signets?

I'm not big on them. Green land ramp has built in color fixing and I'd rather go to mana dorks (e.g. Birds of Paradise or Llanowar Elves ) if I'm trying to diversify my ramp in a green list. There's more of a call for them if you're playing land destruction, which doesn't show up much in a lot of me...

Re: Mono-R Control with Jaya Ballard!

Hey! As a big Skred Red fan in modern, its cool to see a slower more controlling red variant in EDH. Was wondering whether with these discard spells pitching artifacts, that the combination of Goblin Welder and the new Engineer could see play in this archetype especially with the Engineers' ability...

Re: Old characters left for legends?

Also also, not complaining about pre-god Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, but it would be freakin' sweet to see full-god Yawgmoth, Lord of the wastes in all his Phyrexian, tyrannical glory. I don't really want to see any of the oldwalkers/Yawgmoth at peak power. Those feel like difficult characters to ba...

Re: Old characters left for legends?

There are a few characters I'd like to see revisited under modern design sensibilities, like Volrath and Lim-Dul, but I can't think of any characters I'd really like that have never seen a printing. The last few years of sets have been great for printing cards for old characters.

Placeholder post. I don't know what the character limits in posts here are and I do know how much is already written for this primer so this seems like a safe bet.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

New forum, new intros? I'm Chris. I live San Diego, CA and have been playing EDH since 2009 or 2010. I was Weebo on MTGS but I'm bringing my username in line with what I've been using on other platforms for a while, mostly because "weeb" and variants have picked up some new meanings since ...
