Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
I think Drannith Magistrate will be played like most hatebears, both in deckbuilding and impact after it resolves. The decks that add it do either because it impact their metagame in a favorable way or because it's on theme (eg. wizard tribal control). Once it resolves, it probably has the same impa...

Nikya: CreatureBall
Nikya of the Old Ways is a mana flare in the command zone, but has a significant drawback of only allowing creatures to be cast. However, that drawback only impacts deckbuilding if there are non-creatures in the deck. I wanted to build a Gruul combo deck that was as powerful as possible without inc...

Baron Von Count: Negotiate with a Killswitch
I would have posted this in the main decklist forum, but this is clearly not a deck that's legal in commander. My playgroup usually lets me play this if I random into it out of my case, but I always ask for permission every game to be certain. I might also laugh like the sesame street count when I c...

Medomai: Time for Tempo
This is posted for record keeping, but feel free to comment. Medomai the Ageless is a straightforward commander with a large flaw: people don't really like playing against extra turns. When I originally built this deck in 2013 with a large number of planeswalkers, the deck got focused quickly and ra...

Re: Feather, the Redeemed - Weaponised Jankmas Incarnate
Heliod, Sun-Crowned is more mana efficient and can definitely enable some faster voltron kills if lifegain is frequent. I don't have that many lifegain sources outside of something like Arcbond + Mortal's Ardor , so the option to make tokens was more likely to have a payout in my case. If I was run...

Re: Feather, the Redeemed - Weaponised Jankmas Incarnate
In my case, I looked at all the theros gods to enable Heliod's Intervention , and ended up with Heliod, God of the Sun because I have more devotion to white in my permanents and at the worst case the tokens can be generated as targets. I set Purphoros, God of the Forge aside, then realized that I ne...

Gargos: the Fighting Hydra Sniper
This is posted for record keeping, but feel free to comment. Gargos, Vicious Watcher is my third monogreen deck, and is focused on auras as the mana ramp and the primary method of triggering Gargos. In keeping with the restriction to keep my decks mechanically distinct, I run only one mana-dork and ...

Ghalta: The Power Storm
Mostly posted for recordkeeping, but feel free to comment. This is monogreen storm, where the only storm card is the commander. Yes, it's a Food Chain deck. No, it's not that competitive. This is primarily because I wanted to play minimal ramp in mono green in order to keep the playstyle of this dec...

Patron of the Orochi: More Mana, No Problems
This is posted for record keeping, but feel free to comment. This is on of my oldest decks, built around 2012 when Yeva, Nature's Herald was printed and I wanted to have an interactive monogreen deck. In the process, I discovered Patron of the Orochi as a Seedborn Muse effect and enjoyed that more a...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mirage Mirror
Mirage Mirror I remember wanting to try this in multiple decks on release, but it only ended up in one. My primary use is with Mairsil, the Pretender . Turning Mairsil into a land to dodge most removal, or survive his own Nevinyrral's Disk activation is the minimum potential value. I should probabl...

Re: Feather, the Redeemed - Weaponised Jankmas Incarnate
On the topic of Desperate Stand , it opens the full potential of Zada/mirrorwing comboed with Seize the Day . Vigilance let's you use all those combat steps, so it is a potent finisher. I slotted Heliod's Intervention into my version along with Heliod, God of the Sun and Hero of the Nyxborn . Those ...

Re: How many cards per game does your commander represent?
I had not thought of this mentality in deckbuilding, that's an interesting question. I'm not doing every deck, but I want to think about this for most that I have built. EDIT: I'm counting mostly the effective cards cast instead of card slots here. I added a 1.5 or 2 multiplier to number of casts if...

Re: Mutate creatures in the 99
I intend to try Sawtusk Demolisher and Gemrazer in Gargos, Vicious Watcher so that I can overlap my creature and non-creature removal. As a side effect, there are beneficial side effects with mutate on hydras because a significant number are 0/0 base.

Ertai: an Aura of Control
I've been contemplating a Wizard Tribal deck for a while, and eventually settled on Ertai, the Corrupted just as Theros; Beyond Death released. Then I had a sealed deck that tried to abuse Dawn Evangel and realized that Vedalken Aethermage could be recurred for repeatable wizard tutoring value so lo...

What's your most unusual commander and/or deck?
Chandra tribal. Basically run all Chandra's and card theat say Chandra in the name, reference her or feature her in art. It's not great but it is loads of fun. I've been thinking of making something similar for Gideon/Kytheon, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be all that fun to pilot. I have a Gide...

Re: Brainstorming - Uro loam control
Well, my main engine is Chulane with self bounce creatures that cost 2 or less and 65+ lands to generate large noninfinite loops. Whitemane lion and equilibrium with Uyo is pay 6 to draw and play 3 lands per loop. 1 cost reduction breaks even and Aluren generates mana. oboro breezecaller helps gener...

Re: Brainstorming - Uro loam control
I am adding Uyo to a Chulane deck that never intends to escape, and plan to use words of wind between the triggers or equilibrium to dodge the sacrifice trigger. Mine is definitely not a control deck, so I don't know how useful those synergies may be.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Kessig Wolf Run
Kessig wolf run is the primary win condition for my "group hug" deck. Specifically locking players put of spells during combat and making some random 1/1 that I forced to attack become lethal on a third player. I also still run it next to inkmoth nexus from the old days of primeval titan i...

Re: What's your most unusual commander and/or deck?
I would estimate that about half of my decks are some sort of theme, either conceptual or mechanical. The more oddball commanders are Kytheon, Genju of the Realm, (arguably) Patron of the Orochi, Medomai, Sydri, and Traxos. That said, the more common a commander is the more offbeat I feel the need t...

Re: Zada: Grinding up and Arcane Storm
I had a similar reaction, especially regarding wrath protection. However, only getting tokens from nontokens puts a relatively low ceiling on the number of tokens we get. The most optimal performance is likely with skirk prospector as a ritual after a pump spell, but I don't know if that's worth it....

Re: Zada: Grinding up and Arcane Storm
underworld breach is an interesting option for added flashback redundancy here. It doesn't enable the peak damage ?, but may add consistency or cost reduction relative to past in flames. Honestly it's more interesting to me in a Feather build to recur the spells that were spent on opponent's or cou...

Torbran, Burning with Anger
I am posting this deck primarily for recordkeeping, but comments are welcome. The deck is focuses on burn/group slug. The primary win condition is pyrohemia, and overall the intent is to maximize the effect of small damage numbers by multiplying 1 damage to 3. Options to divide damage work very well...

Re: Custom Partners
I have a couple of decks that play a placeholder commander with my real commanders in the deck and enough tutors to assemble them. Specifically, I still have a prosh deck that's really the Gitrog monster and borborygmos enraged in a deck for noninfinite land chucking. I think that it is a bit too go...
