@Dunadain lmao I read it correctly the first time, then @Avacyn Believer made me read it incorrectly the second time
Unfortunately not the first time people who believe in Avacyn led people down the wrong path. Sadly, we cant blame Emrakul this time.

Both of today's rocks are pretty sweet

Why are people misreading The Irencrag the artifact doesn't lose the abilties the equipped creature does
Emphasized: 'If you do, it gains equip {3} and "Equipped creature gets +3/+3" and loses all other abilities.'

If the ability affected the equipped creature, it would be 'If you do, it gains equip {3} and "Equipped creature gets +3/+3 and loses all other abilities".'

The position of the punctuation is pretty relevant here. As the joke goes, contrast 'Let's eat, grandma!' and 'Let's eat grandma!'
I know I'm late but yea I just read it again and yea I would rather not turn it into a equipment.

Why not? I mean, obviously not in the early game, but it's a little bit of reach once you have more mana then you need.

Yeah, I don't cash in Mind Stone every game but I do it enough. I rarely run Commander's Sphere currently, but it was not rare to sac it either. I am specially interested in running it in a Kefnet the Mindful I'm putting together again when late game it doubles as a finisher as it transforms in into a 3 turn clock while acting as ramp early

The new cards are okay. There's nothing super powerful here besides maybe Courageous Resolve, but even that is basically one upped by Angel's Grace. Even if by some miracle one of these cards manages to impact an Eternal format, they'll just print them all into dirt as UW set booster versions.

Overall I think they'll perform better in a frame on a wall than on the table in your deck.

I think Mists of Lorien is quite strong in a few places pretty reliably. Probably excels in a control shell. It's no rift, but nothing is. Still, it's well above average I'd say.

I'll note that Legolas's Quick Reflexes + Seeker of Skybreak is a three mana Plague Wind in green. Not a card I expect to see much play, but I appreciate the extra utility it provides compared to a pure protection spell like Tamiyo's Safekeeping.

I'm thinking Galadriel's Dismissal is gonna be a powerhouse for decks that like to turn sideways. Versatile protection, damage prevention, or enabling you to punch through seems worth trying.

Minas Morgul, Dark Fortress is going to end up in most black decks that would want to try for a commander damage kill, at least for me. I'm looking forward to giving Killian, Ink Duelist shadow with a utility land.

Some neat cards in these new sets, but those are the two that instantly stood out for me.

Minas Morgul, Dark Fortress almost certainly goes in Ebondeath, Dracolich. Galadriel's Dismissal goes in a lot of decks. I'm pissed that Mists of Lórien is a sorcery.

I definitely skipped the reminder text of Minas Morgul and thought a "shadow counter" was just a tracking counter like Isareth the Awakener's corpse counters. Skullbriar, the Walking Grave fun!

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might is some sweet design.

I'm typically not drawn to the "make burn work in EDH" commanders, and this one is no different but whole transform into a land when it dies, and transform it back if you meet certain conditions is really cool. I hope this will be a full 5 color cycle and that one of the other 4 is support for a strategy I like more.

I like that Ghalta never changes size. Just a monstrous, consistent 12/12.

Nazgûl Battle-Mace is just about the worst equipment I've ever seen. Holy crap that is so bad. It's 8 mana for basically nothing. The most relevant text for a Voltron deck is menace lmao.

This absolutely feels like a cycle; I hope the black one is good.

Thank you, I thought I was going crazy when I saw people on reddit declaring this a new "voltron staple."

However, the triggered ability does trigger on any permanent being sacced, so maybe Grave Pact type lists would want it?

Edit: New Huatli, Poet of Unity is ramp + tutor in the command zone for new Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant. Sounds Gimmicky as All Get Out, but the kind of deck I'll probably play at least once.

That's probably the best place? You won't get anything great, it costs 8, and you're dependent on the equipped creature not dying, but that's about as good as it gets. Yuck.

Super not a Voltron thing, though.

eh, I have ways to cheat it into play and equip it for free but I run Akiri, Line-Slinger/ Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist voltron so the annihilator 1 will be interesting to me and I already have ways to get past creatures via other equipment, so menace is eh for me.

Moar spoilers?
  • Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant looks like a nice upgrade over Myojin of Life's Web. Of course, by the point in time you can play an 8-drop (or cheat it out), you could also just cheat out whatever fatties you have in your hand... but still, seems fun, and there's probably something broken you can do with it.
  • Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might isn't really my thing, but it is a cool design. I love the flip-lands from original Ixalan, so I'm happy to see them return.
  • The Skullspore Nexus reminds me of The Great Henge, but otherwise looks significantly weaker. They do different things though - Great Henge wants you to spam cheap creatures, while Skullspore Nexus incentivizes fatties.
  • Huatli, Poet of Unity seems... okay? An alternative to Gishath, Sun's Avatar if you want to build dinosaur tribal, I guess. It feels a little weird that she doesn't transform back after becoming a saga, unlike the saga praetors.
(Breeches and the Jurassic World cards exist, but I don't have anything interesting to say about them)

Uuuh, I really like Huatli! As a passionate Mayael the Anima player back in the day she ticks all my silly stompy rampy Timmy boxes! <3

Most interesting secret lair cards:

Gandalf of the Secret Fire is probably the most interesting new commander. Though it's kinda just a bad Taigam, Ojutai Master.

Galadriel's Dismissal i think is pretty versatile. It's protection, it's a fog, it can break a combo.

I don't like Mists of Lórien. Bleh sorcery. Could be good depending on board state but seems easy for it to be pretty symmetrical, I.e. crappy.

Galadriel, Light of Yalinor is limited but idk, that's a lot of chulane-style value. Idk maybe she's better than Gandalf.

Andúril, Narsil Reforged seems pretty strong. Any deck where it's good will guaranteed meet the city's blessing.

Aragorn, Hornburg Hero sucks so bad lmao. And it's anti-synergy with renown creatures.

Legolas's Quick Reflexes seems like the most important card in the lairs to me. Split second is so powerful, especially for resolving a win, which hexproof is very helpful for. The bite could also have synergies with tap abilities, or just attacking. Overall seems really versatile.

Rohirrim Chargers is a cheaper but less controlled version of Stonehewer Giant. Kinda niche but good in the right context. Probably not using other exert creatures ofc.

Witch-King, Sky Scourge is pretty boring. Wraiths are a non-tribe outside LTR so it's basically just himself. It could draw a lot of cards but I don't see it being very interesting.

Minas Morgul, Dark Fortress is okay I guess but it's kinda just weirdo Rogue's Passage.

Mordor on the March might be the narrowest card ever printed.

Annihilator 1 is so minor. If you're cheating every part of the cost I think there are dozens of more impactful equipment.

Rogue's Passage is one of the better tech lands ever made, and for many decks, this is an upgrade.
