I played against knights of Rohan precon. Fun deck, could use green instead of blue to help tbh. Anyone know if the 3 other decks are on a similar power lvl?

@duducrash TCC did a review of them you could watch (I just did). Personally looking at the new cards, the UG one looks like the worst whereas the UBR one looks like the strongest.

My plan with the one ring is to order a collector booster and keep it sealed until Wotc confirms the ring is found. That way, I can pretend I have the one of ring in my possession for however long it takes for Star City Games to get the go ahead to reveal they have had it all along.

Ol' SCG ain't what it used to be. I wager it ends up in the West. If we're assuming conspiracy to the level of seeding the ring to a specific location, then there's no way they'd risk their million dollar foil hype piece in the South's infamous humidity.

Does anyone have suggestions for where to find audiobooks on the cheap? I did audible back in the day but it always felt like a scam, I hate subscription services for things that have no earthly justification for being subscription services. And $40 for one audiobook seems absurd. Surely there's somewhere I can just buy them for a reasonable price?

I don't know that there is any such thing but I have in the past signed up for a foreign ebook service (kobo uk) to get titles not available in America. My guess would be the best odds of getting affordable ebooks are to find a non-US site

I've discovered 2 things:

1) my library has audiobooks available - pretty pleased to find Lindsay Ellis' sci fi books in addition to a bunch of classics

2) apparently people will just upload audiobooks to youtube :D Time to download the witcher!

I miss Lindsay Ellis's video essays.

I forgot she had books out and I've tried to make it a goal for myself to read for pleaser again (outside of Magic fiction) since I lost that a bit during college. So might addd those to the list after I finish Song of Achilles.

Then again, it MUST be found by someone that Wizbro approves of, which makes SCG a likely choice.

Y'all care so much more about this stupid publicity stunt than I can begin to fathom lmao. I'm just glad it's driving the price of cards down as people buy lottery tickets.

Yet another stupid deck idea:

Step 1: play Asmodeus the Archfiend (your commander presumably)
Step 2: draw 40+ cards, exiling them under Asmodeus.
Step 3: Fateful Handoff your Asmodeus.

EDIT: or better yet, Assault Suit.

I only did the cheapest plan, and got the credits to get the books without paying, so it was basically 15 USD for an audiobook

I could care less about the 1/1 itself. I'm not buying any packs of this set. I enjoy speculating about wizards distributing process of their $1million dollar bill. Some people think it'll be a literally random pack. I'm a bit too cynical to believe that. This whole thing feels a little too much like the lottery in 1984 for me to believe it'll be a truly random pack.

This libraries in Ohio allow you to just rent Audiobooks through their online apps. Just finished Under Red Skies audiobook from my library. I can't say I'm particularly familiar with the library quality in your neck of the woods though.

I just use Audible but I also use significantly more than the one credit per month that the subscription provides so beyond the subscription I quite often buy 3 credits for like $35 or whatever it is. Its not super cheap that way but I generally have a rule that I won't buy an audio book that is less than 10 hours in length unless it costs less than a credit to purchase.

I have been burning through the Azarinth Healer series lately. I really like the fantasy game lit genre even though it can have some issues that a lot of authors fall into I really like the ones that stand out.

I usually compare the entertainment to like, what if I went out to eat / went to the movies as far as entertainment to cost. I think its actually not that bad in that light but there is and are cheaper forms of entertainment.

I'll check that one out, Gamelit/Progression is a huge vice of mine :)

My faves->
Cradle
Thousand Li
Beware of Chicken
Dungeon Crawler Carl
World Tree Online (so weird and out there)
Wandering Inn
He who fights with monsters

Total Trash but I still enjoyed:P (often Russian translations)
Way of the Shaman
System Apocalypse
Chaos Seeds (lol)
Noobtown
Silver Fox & the Western Hero
Crystal Shards Online

Also, my kid *loves* the Accidental Minecraft family heh

Dungeon Crawler Carl - Ohhhh man the feet thing is weird but hilarious. It feels like the time per book is slowing down a lot though as its been a hot minute since the last one.
World Tree Online - I have one of these in my library but can't recall it offhand. I tend to be more avoidance to the ones that lean more into actual games and prefer ones that are more of a fantasy world than being a futuristic MMO. I am not sure that this one is that way but it looks like a futuristic MMO to me.
Wandering Inn - Fantastic work I love it. My only real gripe is that it feels like maybe a few too many characters / points of view for my own preference. I had been reading ahead when I got stuck with like 4 back to back chapters on the sleeping king guy and I just hit a wall and couldn't continue with it. I am waiting for the audio books to catch up now.
He who fights with monsters - Ohhhhh Jason. Yea this series is really good. I feel like I am getting a little jaded with some of the MC depression he goes through especially in some of the more recent books. I get it but its also creating a bit of a mood I don't love just basking in.
Chaos Seeds - I view Aleron Kong as somewhat of an OG. He was very very early to the genre and I feel he did a good job to inspire a lot of other authors. Dakota Krout also gets a lot of credit for this as well but Krout's work came after for sure. Aleron's MC is...... very human but ohhhh boy he can be a bit much.

Its impressive that I have read almost half of your list lol.

The list of actually readable stuff is fairly short sadly:P there're a few others I really enjoyed that I can't find, I think cos I read them on kindle unlimited. Shemer Kuznits' Life Reset was another one I recalled.

It's always exciting to me to meet other fans heh, I just super adore the genre because it's so fresh in comparison to fiction. They tend to follow way different trope patterns and not everything has to be a movie plot, stuff just happens. They tend to be more simulationy even if they're weird, I guess?

*for the most part* they tend to have characters develop power and achieve success through stuff they are working at, rather than through prophecies and deus ex machina (Although there are doses of that too).

I did add Azarinth Healer to my list!

And....of those, you should absolutely read Cradle, Imho. it's full on Progression fantasy, no game elements. Progression is basically gamelit without the game mechanics, more magic system world building but the same kinda "I am a character who is trying to be successful instead of lucksacking into cosmic power." Lots more slice of lifey stuff, generally attempts at things being logical, etc.

Yeah I put it down after book 4 or so due to character fatigue. My wife read it all though, so that's something :)

I can only offer suggestions if you want audio dramas in Mandarin. Probably not gonna work out for what you want but hey, it is a lot cheaper than an audio book in English.

My GBU article is live! For the record I had it finished the day the set finished spoiling, but a bit of a mixup delayed it getting out there.

edit: btw wtf is going on with the price of Nazgûl? Literally the highest price I can remember seeing on any uncommon printed since I started playing.

Relentless Rats type of cards have always been rather hot. Generally anyone who wants them is looking to get their hands on like 20-40 copies and preorder prices tend to be high. If you are interested in doing something for a card like this your best bet is usually to wait until a lot of the product is opened and initial hype dies down.

I am actually surprised that this one is as high as it is considering you can only run 9 copies.

My apathy for this set is colliding headlong with my desire for full Boros-ification of General Ferrous Rokiric with Taunt from the Rampart. And it would replace Disrupt Decorum! *shakes fist ironically*
