reading Spell Queller after this is depressing, not strictly because of the rare/common power discrepancy but because the more interactive card is locked away from limited...

I honestly don't hate these designs. They have made thematic decks in the past cool and functional that said I think that either we need to see the rise of more uncommon walkers with these or to never see them again.

Honestly I still want to find a deck to use Chandra's Regulator in, and I'd love to see more cards that give specific planeswalker support.

The challenge is making it interesting and flavorful without also being insular and parasitic.

Also, I still heed the original concept, that Planeswalkers are supposed to be Mythic and rare, not leaving their apparatuses everywhere .... darn litterbugs!

Still, Urza and Mishra have been leaving tons of stuff lying around, including whole factories and workshops.

I think Chandra's Embercat is a good example of a design I'd like; references planeswalkers of a certain type directly, but doesn't name a specific version. Also it actually supports the planeswalker and doesn't just grant itself a boon. I dislike designs like Jace's Sentinel. Like maybe:

Neat look into the flavor of Arcavios beyond Strixhaven.

Wandering Archaic offered something Strixhaven was sorely lacking: a glimpse outside the school to put their work there into context.

Strixhaven is a very well fleshed out school, but it also feels kinda hollow, and it took me up until last month to realise why: it's because we never see any external context for the school.

These kids in Lorehold learn to dig up statues and relics, but so what? What statues are those? They're part of history, but what history? It would make little difference if the teachers just went out and buried trinkets for them for them to dig up later for funsies like a kid's sandbox. These other learn math, these ones learn poetry, these ones learn performance. Okay, sure. So what? What are they doing with this? What's the broader society like out there that's being shaped by these kinds of forces? None of this has any sense of grit because I can't put it into a real context.

If I told you Golgari learned to grow unfathomably large mushrooms out of nearly nothing, you'd know what the significance of that is, and I can empathize why someone would make it their life's work to develop such a thing. If a Witherbloom student did this, I don't know what the motivation or ramifications would be beyond them getting an A+ in biology.

The plot of the evil wizard trying to take over the school had gravity to it because it affected people we knew, but nothing else does.

Ultimately, we're just missing a real understanding of what the rest of Arcavios is like. What is it exactly?

Well said. Ravnica, Innistrad, and New Capenna have succeeded in aspects where Arcavios and, as much as it pains me to say it, Amonkhet have been seriously disappointing.

I look forward to not only things like more information about the Blood Age (I somewhat disagree with your point on Lorehold specifically because of cards like Blood Age General), but also - what are Strixhaven graduates doing with their skills? I have to imagine a world with a great deal of both commerce and conflict, if it has that much need for specialist mages.

I did read on the official site, maybe the visual planeswalker guide or something, that most graduates return to their homes and serve their communities as mages, doing whatever that society requires of mages.

Yeah it would be nice if they elaborated a bit more on that.

Sabotage means causing destruction or failure of an object or plan. I think the word you want here is "espionage".

See, that would just be A Boy and That Same Boy. (Or, since it creates the Wolf token, His Dog and His Dog.) If you don't have the boy, you can't have the dog.

For whatever reason Mirrodin block has continuous artifacts like it's 1994 again. Thunderstaff is pretty neat, though, I can't lie, and I kind of like the tap-to-turn-off dynamic of symmetrical artifact static abilities.
