I tried (and failed) to get the advent calendar. I knew it would be hard to buy with the close postage date. Wish next time they do this, they restrict the amount someone can buy so we don't get screwed by scalpers
Even if they restrict that, people will write bots to sign up additional accounts :P

I feel like there's got to be some kind of solution to this nonsense where supply is artificially gated on everything by people buying it all up and hoarding it. It's pretty much the definition of the downside to capitalism, but as we know fixing that has proven intractible.

The only answer I can really think of is some kind of real person ID system, but then 1) that's a huge privacy problem and 2) people would game that by getting other peopel to lend them their identities.

It really sucks.
Maybe restrict postal code and adresss? There is still work arround but its more difficult

This was the one thing this year that I was going to spend on myself, and I couldn't get through the stupid website. I was going to open it advent style too, one each day. Having the sale run for two days implies that they'd have enough product to sustain a sale for about as long. I'm so frustrated by it. Meanwhile, a bunch of really crappy Secret Lairs are available to order no problem.

This 30th anniversary has been a non-starter for me.

I'm a big fan of New Order and I just found this super cool cover using old non-electronic instruments. They even play the saw!

My son is 2.5yo and I can second the luck. Its both the most wonderful experience you'll ever have and the most trying experience you'll ever have.

Seriously though @Dunadain congrats! And happy birthday to @Hermes_ too, hope its been a great day.

Brothers war is delayed for NZ, we're getting the prerelease a week late =/ I assume that's just a NZ thing, and you yanks are unaffected?

Insofar as I know. It's good to be a Roman sometimes.

Almost as sick as the sickos that have been blocking legitimate news and banning accounts of those trying to report it, especially in 2020.

Back in...idk, March maybe? Early SNC, whenever that was, I qualified for the APAC championship or whatever it's called. Posted about it in here, if anyone remembers. Nobody knew what it even was. Finally got the details today.

It's $20 to enter despite being an event I had to qualify for.
It's STANDARD format (cue vomiting) with a draft after cut to top 8.
The grand prize for winning the top 8 draft is...

Year of the Tiger Champion Trophy - Oh great a useless knickknack
Pinfinity Year of the Tiger Limited Edition Pin Set - Oh great more useless knickknacks
2 playmats - I already have way more than anyone needs. Which is 1, btw.

Sooooo....yeah probably not going to that. Maybe if <=8 people sign up, in which case I'll just auto-concede the standard portion so I can do the draft.

You poor, poor Zealanders and your draconian anti-gambling laws! Here in the land of opportunity, you can still win a big novelty check. Everyone wants a big check. Nobody wants a pin set.

@TheAmericanSpirit I don't think that's the problem actually. We've got random slot machine mini-casinos is the back of some bars downtown. And while I think Canada does have some pretty harsh anti-gambling laws, when I did a GP there (probably 8 years ago by now) they had pretty insane prize support for side events. Like, win or lose you got your money's worth. So...I think anti-gambling legislation is probably good, actually?

@Hermes_ Yep, and it was exactly as lame as I hoped it wasn't =/

I've missed the last pile of pre-releases so I'm pretty hyped to actually snipe the Brother's War with my Brother. I kinda hope we have to face each other so I can make a really lame joke about it.

Double post update! Bros war recap! I had built a U/B tempo-ish deck.

I'm fairly certain Mazemind Tome was the strongest card in my deck, even considering I had Phyrexian Fleshgorger. Seriously, slamming that Mazemind Tome on turn 2 made me feel like I couldn't lose. Phyrexian Fleshgorger wrapped up a bunch of games I was already winning. Although, swinging in with Phyrexian Fleshgorger and then Overwhelming Remorse on one of their two blockers. Chef's Kiss.

I ruined one poor soul with Thopter Mechanic into Gurgling Anointer with Mazemind Tome to trigger them every turn. That man died fast. He played Mishra, Claimed by Gix and had to block my Thopter Mechanic and I just ate it with Moment of Defiance. Felt good.

Other standouts include double Gix's Caress, double Koilos Roc and double Spotter Thopter. Deck was great. I could curve out and tempo people out of the game. I could midrange/control people out of the game. My late game was also pretty fire with the double Spotter Thopter.

4-0d my way to the finals where I met my brother. Which just felt immensely delicious. Especially because I picked an Urza box and he picked a Mishra one. He had Helm of the Host, Tyrant of Kher Ridges, Siege Veteran and Cityscape Leveler. He milled Tyrant of Kher Ridges. I killed Siege Veteran. I was racing Helm of the Host. Then, he cast Cityscape Leveler. I would strongly, strongly advise against having your opponent resolve Cityscape Leveler.

MtG events and prize support are not considered Gambling in Canada. If they were all the LGSs would need gambling licences.
And yes we used to have Grand Prix events where the best way to spend your money was to do quick drafts, agree with the pod to split the prizes evenly, then drop with 5 packs for the price of 3.

@Dunharrow the story I heard was that they prizes were so good to ensure it wasn't considered gambling, so that people couldn't "lose money" or something.

I have no idea if that's true or not. But the prize support was definitely a far cry from what I've seen from GPs in the US and UK, so I feel like SOMETHING must be going on.

I think the gambling laws may change from province to province. I am in Quebec and I don't think that's what was happening.
I think some events are just loss leaders to get people through the door.
