Decided to take a shot at getting legend in hearthstone again. At diamond I had to shelve my homebrew - crafted a combo demonhunter deck yesterday morning because it was supposed to be so hard to play that it was only good for high legend players (and yeah it's real hard tbh). Rode that to diamond 5 last night, figuring I'd take a break for a bit since I've got life stuff to deal with, and take up the climb in a few days. Then woke up today and blizzard is nerfing my new 24-hour-old deck into the damn ground. So now I've got one day to get to legend or I'll have to craft a completely new deck.

Really gives me some appreciation for wotc's predictable ban announcements.

Aw man, sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he recovers well.

The lockdown seems dramatic but personally I prefer it to the illusion of control evident over the ditch in Australia. Things have really spiraled for them and I'd prefer to avoid it as I'm sure most people would. I guess the upside is that isolating for just one confirmed case is potentially a short and sharp isolation period rather than a rolling, endless disaster. I guess it remains to be seen, but its the right thing to do even if it does seem overkill at first blush.

Hope your dad recovers well Dirk!

Re the NZ lockdown, it sucks, but with delta it's a question of when, not if, you go into hard lockdown; at least if your country has low vaccination rates. We're in week 8 here in Sydney and today will break 500 cases/day for the first time since the whole pandemic started; we were at about 25-30/day when we started lockdown.

In the long run a quick, sharp lockdown will be better. It's very frustrating to be in lockdown for 2 months, with a minimum of 2 months more ahead, when the federal government botched the vaccine rollout and the state government failed to mandate that front line workers be vaccinated. (For those who don't know, the current Sydney outbreak originated from an unvaccinated person driving international flight crew).

Yeah we had a case of delta being spread in an isolation facility; 2 parallel doors in a hotel were open for 5 seconds at the same time and that was enough to spread it. Insane. Edit - there's now 4 more cases, one of whom is a fully vaccinated nurse.

Hope you're looking after yourself over the ditch there. We all feel for you guys, its a tough card to have drawn, and honestly it seems like your central government has really struggled to get on top of it.

Tests got back and it wasn't a stroke - just "benign paroxysmal positional vertigo" because of an untreated ear infection. Apparently it'll go away in a few weeks to a month. So that's a big relief.

Move will have to be put on hold, though. Currently surrounded by boxes of all my stuff...and I've gotta tell the power/internet companies not to cancel my service in 4 days...blerg.

Jeez. I knew it was highly contagious, but that's insane.

Thanks! Doing my best. Moved in on my own for the first time ever in April, so this has made me re-evaluate the benefits of housemates; planning to move again in a month or so. I'm very used to machines and barbells for weight training, so I'm refocusing to getting super lean this lockdown and preserving what muscle mass I can; it's about achievable goals. (Or at least ones that feel achievable).

Very glad to hear he'll be alright!

Does the NZ lockdown prevent you from moving at all? Here we're still allowed to inspect property (if we intend to live there; not for investment or holidays) and move. That being said, Sydney has underestimated delta at every turn, so you probably don't want to emulate us.

Moving is only allowed for emergencies basically. There's a 48 hour window to "get back to your residence" (presumably for vacationers) - could maybe pull that off if it was as simple as me driving a car with my stuff up to my new place, but I was going to use my girlfriend's parents' car, so they'd have to drive it down here and there might be checkpoints and I really don't think it's worth roping them into any shenanigans (if they'd be into it, which they probably wouldn't be anyway).

I think it is 30$, but it costs like 50$ to ship to Canada. (which is absurd).
DragonShield Sleeves sell for 12$ here.

The $30 is better than I thought it would be (I was afraid it was going to be Canadian level prices). Still a little pricey, but if you got a pet deck that you want custom sleeves for then it probably is a good deal.

In other news, I made it to Double Diamond in Arena today. It was something on my bucket list, but I had been putting it off due to the time commitment. But the double rewards for this month helped me decide to give it a go. It also didn't hurt that my favorite and best format, Amonkhet Remastered, was brought back, which along with three surprisingly strong Kaladesh Remastered drafts, made getting to Diamond pretty painless. What made the Kaladesh drafts so surprising is that I struggled mightily with the format the first time around, but in the three drafts I did, I got 7 wins, 5 wins, and 7 wins.

Getting the constructed Diamond was actually harder, which isn't surprising when I actually thought about it. I am a Historic Mono-Red player and the meta has been unfavorable to it ever since Kaldheim brought GW angels to format and its been getting worse since then.

Part of me wonders if I should try for Mythic in limited, but another part of me says I should just be happy with what I have and try not to kill myself trying with so little time left in the season.

I guess the warlock meta finally wore him down on Hearthstone.

I spent a while memorizing her name just because it'd be fun to say it a bunch of times when playing it. Never got around to it, though...tbh she seems really hard to exploit in commander.

My daughter's first day of pre-school is tomorrow. I'm not ready. I'm not ready for the world to have her. There will be tears tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure most of them will be mine.

My son starts high school Monday the 23rd :please: I'm not old enough to have a freshman I'm sure this is somehow @cryogen 's fault.

I kinda wonder what kind of deck he'd build... my heart says wgx, but I hesistate to guess more. Also, anyone else find it a little odd to see the most handsome man in magic going gray already? I used to watch tons of coverage and I guess I just figured he had an extended warranty on his fountain of youth.

Well my Brother leaves for college on tuesday. I still see him as a 2nd grader so this has been a weird week but I convinced him to bring his EDH deck and his DnD dice with him because I told him college is the best time for those hobbies if you decide to keep with them.

Good call. Magic was how I made some of my first friends in college. I remember it was a few days after move-in but a few days before class begun, and the guys in my dorm were having a pretty violent game of volleyball outside in the courtyard. I mentioned offhand that I played EDH during the game and got into a heated debate with one of my teammates about whether noncompetitive magic has a point or not (this was 2013). He told me he played tournament legacy and that edh was for scrubs. I disagreed vehemently and told him to shove off with that elitist crap.

Later that week, he strolled down the hall and gave my door a knock. I answered and he asked if I was actually any good at magic (like, did I know how the rules really work, etc). I responded by explaining how multiple copies of humility and opalescence interact and how layers work. He said "Cool." and invited me down to his room to test legacy for an upcoming GP. We ran 8 rounds of TES vs RUG delver, he won 5, I won 3. After that, we basically chilled every day and even lived together sophomore year.

We've been good friends ever since (but we've still never played EDH together, never could convince him on that one).

Definitely met lots of folks who played MtG at college so it's a good call to have some cards handy. Ultimately ended playing semi-competitively and attending large local events in the area because of those guys. Made some good friends.

Working between high school and college i didn't play any MTG at all (coming from normal kitchen table)... less than 2 months into college i witnessed my first game of EDH - nothing was same anymore since then.

Welp, I did it. I got Mythic in limited. Played a few more drafts after it, but my Boros Equipment deck went 4-3 as it kept flooding out (despite playing sixteen lands) and my UB deck was only okay, but played against some of the best and most streamline decks I've ever seen in AFR (seriously the WB Dungeon deck, I killed their Wight three times, their Cloister Gargoyle twice, and their Barrowin of Clan Undurr twice, and they were still on the board at the end of the game), which dropped me down to the %. Might play one more later to see if I can get back up to the numbers, but eh. I accomplished more than I thought. I'm proud of myself.

I'd run it in a deck with a 5C commander, so then you only need one card to activate it, à la Coalition Victory. I run it in my Sliver Queen deck both for this reason and because the deck is meant to do strange things. (I intend to modify the deck more towards 5C chaos; I hope to cast Fractured Identity on Hive Mind one day).

The other consideration is that, much like hatebears, opponents will heavily over-prioritise removing Spirit of Resistance. So you don't want to put much effort into activating it in the first place, since it probably won't be sticking around for long.
