@mtgsally was the place to be, but geez was it not without it's own flaws. The spaghetti code shovelled on top of itself like MODO development, the numerous bug issues and errors and then the "features" that didn't actually do anything. It was a hot mess.

Meanwhile this site here looks so fresh and well polished.
and I get my notifications

Yeah....

It does make me sad but at the end of the day I'd rather put my effort into a site that reciprocates that effort and is truly about the community.

Notifications are the biggest plus for me. Now I can reply in a timely manner rather than one in every seven posts.

I'd be more sad about it if there had been any public facing communication from the new owner in the last month since that announcement. Their actions are not really inspiring confidence that they'll be good stewards of the site.

So much this. I think that the final topple will be when/if nexus kills sally's rumor mill section.

Nexus won my confidence quickly. You spot something off, you post about it, one fingersnap later it works. Look at the Involved Topics option in the discussion dropdown - I asked for it, and Feyd just magicked it up near instantly. By contrast, the analogous MTGS feature bugging out wasn't ever fixed again. Three cheers for Feyd's amazing work, the site looks and feels amazing now.

I won't lie, it was a little scary to be one of the first ones over. It felt a little ghost town'y, but a snowball built itself up. Accounts bred accounts, threads bred threads. It's great to see a lot of the active MTGS primers make the jump, and it made me realise some threads I linked to as resources have been abandoned for years now.

To be perfectly fair, I think that the ban list announcement, my poll, and Sheldon's subsequent involvement on here helped as well. But everything you all are saying is absolutely true also.

Having a direct line to the development team is really nice. Also, having a development team that understands the needs of the forum, because they're a customer of it themselves, is a huge deal.

MTGSal's deckbuilder would put artifact creatures under artifact, because the developers didn't play magic, and so couldn't make judgments on how it should work - obviously, that's an easy fix - but having a developer that understands the magic needs at the outset cuts down on so many of those little things.

Those have definitely helped with forum growth. The commander sub accounts for almost half of the posts on the forum so far and those all seem like strong factors. The other subs haven't had similar driving factors, so they're lagging behind a little right now.

Here's my speculation:

You're going to enjoy yourself.
Sheesh, there goes Sheldon telling us how to enjoy the format again...

I love this site, and a big bonus to it for me is the direct registration. I'd been at MtgSalvation for years and years, and the Curse switch-over was incredibly tedious. I had to do that weird log-in thing--and now that I've migrated to a new computer, all that log-in stuff is lost. I can only log in when I am on the old PC.

Meanwhile, here everything is smooth as butter. (And it looks prettier, in my opinion.)

Well I got my first death threat this morning. Unfortunately, it's not for nearly as good a reason as Sheldon. An elderly woman that had been sitting in a pickup truck in front of the post office for like two hours screamed at me that she was going to %$#% kill me when I drove past her during a road test.

That seems... extreme.

I don't know. I'm so personable so I can't imagine why anyone would hate me.

Nexus just had a super fast turnaround on new set news, so I think the rumour section's setting itself up fine over here too. Neat.
