Was he in his room and I didn't know it? I was excited and we were getting ready to go to bed and I felt likeI was going to wake him up. Draco opened his eyes and stared at me and I froze in terror. My eyes widened. "Gods, don't tell me you think I'm going to kill you." I whispered. "No! That won't happen! We'll go home, I'll tell Mum and Dad, we'll explain everything, and then we can put it all behind us and we can go to sleep." "And then what?" I asked. "And then what?" Draco said as he leaned over me and kissed me.

...

I awoke to a car driving into our front yard. "Whoa, what time is it?" "It's six in the morning." Draco panted. He looked pale and sweaty and I remembered thinking how Club Flamingo is 10 years old.

This ability is screwing with me, lol.

First thing that had to click was that the minigame seems to figure you don't know what card it is before you choose to reveal it, so either you get that sphinx for free or you lose a card draw. (When I was thinking you would know before you decide to reveal, I wondered what the point of the exile clause was.)

But then the card itself is what gives you permission to reveal cards as you draw, so if it wasn't that card, you just did something you're not allowed to do. You can show opponents hidden information anytime you want (like showing people your hand) but that's not revealing for anything that cares about it as an in-game action.

... I can get my brain to quiet down about it if I just tell it that it's great and works fine in silver border though.

spacemonaut for even more fun, we had an extended debate about whether that ability applied to your opening hand, and therefore whether you can just exile cards until you hit these before the game begins. with mulligans you get up to... 28 hits? starting the game with a bunch of hasty 4/4 fliers seemed overpowered.

(also to your point, the point of the "draft" clause is to announce to others that you have this card in your card pool and thus have access to the ability)

With the new mulligan system, if you're just blindly exiling, you get up to 35 hits, because you still draw the opening 7 every time (and since you've exiled all the cards, you don't have any to put on the bottom of your library). You're guaranteed to be able to clock in for lethal if your opponent can't remove the Sphinx or block it before you draw from an empty library (it can even be blocked once before you lose if you're on the play).

I'm not going to involve myself in this but there needs to be way more in Miser Sphinx's last ability for it not to be a static ability that only functions for other copies of the same card after the first one is on the battlefield

Storm of Criosphinxes 6UUU
Creature - Sphinx (R)
Flying, hexproof, prowess
When Storm of Criosphinxes enters the battlefield, if you cast it, choose three numbers, then exile the top six cards of target opponent's library. For each of those numbers, you may put a memorization counter on a card with converted mana cost equal to that number exiled in this way.
You may cast exiled cards you don't own with memorization counters on them without paying their mana costs.

release notes:
2020-01-28 -- The ability works as you draw a card, even if it's not the card you drew. Even if it's not actually in your deck because you sideboarded it out (nobody will know). Please don't ask us how. Please don't ask about Panglacial Wurm either. In fact all emails mentioning Panglacial Wurm or Miser Sphinx get automatically deleted by our email system because otherwise we'll keep losing rules managers.

Realigner Sphinx 5UR
Artifact Creature- Sphinx
Flying, menace
When Realigner Sphinx enters the battlefield, search your library for 6 cards, then shuffle your library. Each at random, exile one, put one into your graveyard, put one on top of your library, and an opponent chooses one, then you put the rest into your hand. That opponent may play the chosen card without paying its mana cost. If they don't, put it into your graveyard.

Rathixes, the Meddler BGU
Legendary Creature - Sphinx Advisor (M)
Flying, vigilance
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose a card name, then reveal the top card of your library. If it's the chosen card, play it without paying its mana cost. Otherwise, you lose life equal to the revealed card's converted mana cost and put it into your hand. If a land card is played this way, you may play an additional land this turn.

IIW: The new king of the Thrulls
I see you addressed the weirdo land issue with this card.
For anybody who didn't remember, this card originally didn't have that last sentence and therefore created an unintuitive rules situation where you could get a land from this in your upkeep but *play* that land... which eats your land drop. The rules are very straightforward on this, but it seems like an unintuitive/feel-bad interaction for a lot of players.

Now that this isn't an issue, the card seems fine. Name a card, maybe get it for free. Standard stuff. I won't lie, this seems far too strong at three mana. Turn two Ponder, turn three this, turn four flip whatever was third down and go to town.

Legendary Creature - Sphinx [MR]
Yuu Esey, Flamelight Diviner costs 1 less to cast for each nonland noncreature card you own in exile.
Flying, haste
Whenever Yuu Esey attacks, exile two nonland noncreature cards at random from your graveyard with a blaze counter on them. You may cast those cards from exile for as long as it remains exiled, and they cannot be countered.

IiW:
A new Oko
This has a lot of pieces that work together nicely, but the total package seems just slightly off to me. For example, the cost reduction seems like it might be for a Commander tax reduction, which is cool, but the base cost of the card is 8CMC! This is fine, since a deck can build around that to power this creature out out, but the second ability also serves to feed the first. It *feels* a bit off to me. The easiest fix for that, to my mind? Drop a couple CMC and remove that first ability.

I do like the second ability, though it doesn't seem like a real gamble, since you can't lose. :) Overall good stuff though.

Veiled Oracle 3UU
Creature — Sphinx Advisor

Whenever Veiled Oracle enters the battlefield or attacks, choose odd or even, then exile the top three cards of your library. If their total converted mana cost is your choice, put them into your hand.
It speaks wisdom only barely glimpsed.

Sphinx of the First Word 1UU
(Art of a tiny lil' cute sphinx kid doing a big roar.)
Creature — Sphinx Wizard
Flying
If this spell is the first spell you've cast this game, you may cast it without paying its mana cost and as though it had flash. If you do, sacrifice it as it enters the battlefield.
When Sphinx of the First Word enters the battlefield, you may draw a card. If you do, discard a card.

Prophet of Scars 4UB
(Art: a menacing, shadowy sphinx drawing blood with a dagger from someone to fill a scrying dish.)
Creature — Demon Sphinx Warlock
Flying, hexproof
At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library and put that card into your hand. You lose life equal to its converted mana cost. Then if your life total is exactly 0, you win the game.

many entries.
I like Veiled Oracle. This is an elegant ability, and definitely captures the gambling essence I was looking for. I don't know if this was intentional, but this costing an odd CMC means that you can't stack your deck with entirely even CMC cards to always get a hit (barring the triple land hit).

First word... is certainly degenerate, lol.

Prophet is a nice alt win con. I'd prefer this on an enchantment rather than a hexproof dark confidant dragon though, since you're surely killing them with that before the wincon goes off.

IIW do something weird with tokens
So, if I'm reading this right, I can name cards that aren't in my deck and exile cards until I decide to name Island and put 5 cards into my hand? Is that right? If so, this seems very silly. If not, let me know what this is meant to do.

This requires too much memorization for me to even parse this late at night.
I appreciate the 3-6-9 appearing on the card. Nice that if your 6/6 hexproof flying creature dies before you cast all of the free spells you get that you can cast another one to unlock those spells.

Again with the three mana free-cast spells. These other people putting in 5, 6, or 9-drops are at least trying to balance their cards.

MMmmm bidding. Yes.
I like this as a potential greed punisher card. Seems fun. I didn't realize at first that everybody draws no matter what, and I like it a lot more now that I do. Good mind games and nice card that doesn't flip rando cards off the top.

I'm going to need the commander players to weigh in on this, because this seems wacky and bad in a duel. It also feels like a LOT of work that might take time to resolve (6 cards is a good choice of number. I'll say that much) BUT I feel like you could have some fun moments with this.

Clean and straightforward. I suppose I wonder... why mill? why TWELVE cards? Etc.

Just so you know that I was thinking of this, I was originally going to pick the winner at random (after judging, of course). But I'll spare you that, just this once.

WINNER: Spacemonaut! Three cards that got my brain going. Also, it's about time we got some un-cards in here...
