Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time
I don't mean "arbitrarily" as an insult, I just mean that the rules genuinely provide no answer to the question, there is no guidance or precedent, it is a completely open decision. From Matt Tabak (former rules manager), specifically about this situation: https://twitter.com/WotC_Matt/st...

Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time
I've been looking for an alternative to Pandemonium, because it usually sits in my hand unless I have the rest of a combo... First thing that comes to mind is Warstorm Surge for avoiding the symmetry of Pandemonium . That makes a 2-card infinite flicker combo. As well as the other combos you listed...

Re: Zada: Grinding up an Arcane Storm
One thing I'd like to mention is that in high power / cEDH, you may be more likely to run into countermagic in addition to spot removal. Can't cast Deflecting Swat for free to stop Zada from being countered (and spending 2r is probably undesirable), though Ricochet Trap would likely only cost r . St...

Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time
Also, have you come across any 4+ card combos that require a Zedruu activation? I'm aware of the couple with Dissipation Field , and the Sacred Ground + Price of Glory , as well as the Archetype of Imagination + Luminous Broodmoth . But there must be more floating around, no? There's also the one f...

Re: Zada: Grinding up an Arcane Storm
One final ask -- could someone please walk me through the Ardent Elementalist + Heat Shimmer / Twinflame infinite combo that has been referenced a few times? I'm terrible at stack minutiae/visualization and would appreciate the guidance. Thanks! So let's say you have Ardent Elementalist already on ...

Re: Please put wincons in your decks.
RxPhantom was the Breya durdler friends with the one who sniped Alibou? Like, despite everybody else talking about wincons and stuff... He eventually said that the deck doesn't have a way to win, necessarily, and that it was doing pretty much what he built it to do. ...the way it's told, the pilot ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive
I built her recently as combat wincon oriented. There's a little infect in it but not much, so things like Scytheclaw ( Quietus Spike is also common but I don't have one), Notorious Throng , Stolen Identity , and Psychosis Crawler can speed things up. The very first time I played it, Throne of the G...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Oppression
I loved running Oppression in Chainer, Dementia Master . Chainer needs time to get enough mana on board to start doing things, and this often had the "virtual CA" effect of slowing my opponents tempo because they didn't want to lose cards, but I do want some of my cards in the yard so it's...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Riftsweeper
I've had Riftsweeper in my Spider Spawning deck ever since I 'netdecked' it from BDM because there's some flashback stuff and potential for graveyard getting wiped. I'm not sure I've ever really used it, though.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Josu Vess, Lich Knight
There's a discord were a handful of us are going to do a Geth Challenge, where we each build a Geth, Lord of the Vault deck (meta-gaming our builds allowed, but not oppressively) and then we'll play them against each other. Josu Vess, Lich Knight is going in mine, along with some other kicker/flashb...

Re: the negative connotation of the term cEDH
Would it be better if we renamed this subformat? No, I don't think it would help. is there a way to change the community's negative views? There is probably a small group of loud haters. You're unlikely to change those particular minds, but it's still important to lay out the difference between gro...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
So, how is everyone? Did you start playing in person with friends again? My regular playgroup has regrouped (pun intended) and the flame has been rekindled. Probably would have if I had a regular group, but sometimes non-covid things get in the way, too. I do look forward to some in-person play aga...

Re: Queen Breena's Full Contact Politics
Okay, I was skeptical of Royal Assassin initially, but watching players avoid attacking or using certain activated abilities because of it is a good example of the hidden power dynamics and virtual CA in this game. Also got to flashback Sevinne's Reclamation to return Flagstones of Trokair fo...

Re: Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist // Reyhan, Last of the Abzan - Enchantress with Auras
This is a really cool deck. I'd completely forgotten about Reyhan as a possible partner. Did you pick her just because she was cheaper than Ikra Shidiqi ? I'm not seeing any particular +1/+1 synergies. There's a spoiler segment in the How To Win section that basically says Reyhan is mostly just for...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Telepathy
While it has its uses in a control heavy table, I'm more inclined to drop this on the table as a social experiment, to see how my opponents act towards each other when deception is no longer an option. ....if my immediate response to Telepathy is to drop a Sire of Insanity , does that make me a gen...

Re: Queen Breena's Full Contact Politics
Top plus fetches is a dig 3 yeah. I think of it basically as a card that lets me keep 2 landers with a fetch, since my odds of hitting my third land are extremely high, but it's also really good late game when I'm crucible-fetching. I don't think either card is good enough without the fetch suite. ...

Re: Queen Breena's Full Contact Politics
So I put this version together recently. Most of the differences are: didn't have some of the cantrip 2-drop creatures and didn't want to run all the fetches. Commander (1) 1 Breena, the Demagogue Creature (33) 1 Angel of the Dire Hour 1 Boreas Charger 1 Cartographer's Hawk 1 Cavalier of Night 1 Dag...

Re: Zada: Grinding up an Arcane Storm
I thought the spell (spliced or not)had to ONLY target zada…path of anger's flame effect all creatures. Doesn't it? Here's the way Splice onto Arcane works: you start casting an Path of Anger's Flame as you are casting it is when you choose any Splice onto Arcane cards from your hand and reveal the...

Re: Zada: Grinding up an Arcane Storm
Hey everyone, How relevant could FORK be in our deck? Or reverberate… I'd say only as a protective trick (similar to Deflecting Swat ). It'd mostly be used to copy a spell that is not targeting Zada to get extra value - and in that sense it could be quite meta-dependent on what spells of your oppon...
