(2/3) Elegance - Auras that add tap abilities can be kinda verbose, and the enchanting restriction on this card is clearly "just" to pass the subchallenge and doesn't add anything to the design.
Just wanted to clarify something about my design:
In a B/G deck you'll be able to play this on any creature and it will add two to your devotion without being too mana intensive, effectively rewarding you for playing those exact colors.
If you're playing only one of those colors, it will only add one to devotion and sometimes the restriction will bite you in the butt because you're not really "committing" to those colors.

In the meantime, the judge signup thread for January is up, as it should be, a few days before Round 1. You can still wait until the end of Round 1 to decide if you want to play or judge this month.

I hope it doesn't qualify as a double post after 5 days, but Round 1 for January is up. Yes, one day earlier than the official beginning of the month because I don't think many of us will think about Magic card design tonight. I might, but I know I would also be one of the few on Earth probably, if not the only one... but don't worry about me. Everything's gonna be fine. Enjoy the one extra day you have to enter your designs!

I have a question about judging - since, for this month, the main challenge of the contest has two qualifications (one being that the card is a common and the other being that it has a TBD mechanic), if a card was made that violated only one of these rules, would it get a 0/2 and be disqualified or a 1/2 for the "Main Challenge" section of judging? Thanks!

From the MCC Guidelines: "0 points mean that neither the letter nor the spirit of the Main Challenge are met, and a card that scores zero here will be DQ'ed." So I would interpret this to mean that it's judged not based on whether it satisfied one or both parts of the challenge, but based on how thoroughly it violates the challenge. So if, hypothetically, you just decided to submit a card that isn't a common (thereby violating both the spirit and the letter of the challenge), I imagine the result would be a DQ.

It would be a DQ. Not even ambiguous.

void_nothing is right, it's the former. Straight up DQ, because it's the Main Challenge. All requirements in the Main Challenge must always be met at the same time. If it were a Subchallenge, things would have been different, but it's not. So it would be a DQ, and a very easy one as a judge.

Exactly. You've got the point.

EDIT: In other news, my judgments for December Round 3 are up.

Any thoughts on not requiring the for the effect? That was my most important design choice.

And on the name, well, I actually started with a Khalni Garden variant that ended up becoming a DCC submission and kind of kept the name. I completely missed the similarity!

Thanks for the judging

I'm not perfect, and yes, that's a thing I completely missed. Judgments are never final until the judging deadline. I might still edit them before it. There are still 21 hours left as of this post during which I can adjust my judgment, and I think I will. Anyway, for the future, a pm would have probably been better for the first thing (the tap symbol not being there), which influences the judgment. I feel like a mention of this fact is due, I will think about whether it changes the scores. Again, I'm still on time.

EDIT: And in fact I just did. I've chosen to give you back the have point that I had taken away. The reasons are detailed in the edited judgment in the round thread, so it's useless for me to repeat them here.

You'd think the current round of the December MCC would be easier to judge, but it's not, at least not for me. Still a work in progress, but I thought I'd have them done already by now, as likely did the rest of you. Apologies.

A reminder to everyone that the official deadline for January Round 1 is tomorrow night (for now). It's possible I will extend it if we keep having so few contestants. I hope it's just because of the Christmas/New Year festivities. Anyway, if you're unsure whether to play or not, please come and join us!

Speaking of rounds - after some delay my judgments for December's Round 3 are in and if Blydden finishes judging tonight I should be able to post the final round; if that's not the case I'll post tomorrow with or without their scores, using just mine and bravelion's scores for the applicable contestants.

Well this final round is meant to be fiendishly difficult. Leo's January round 1 feels significantly easier but poses its own challenges given how much design space has been used up in known THB cards for the various mechanics!

I admit I had thought about doing the reverse, mythic to common. Maybe I should have, but now we're stuck with what I have. It's easy for me to say this in hindsight. Well, at least now we don't have the 15th contestant problem anymore, so thank you for that. Round 1 will close in about 5 hours and a half from this post, that's for sure now.

EDIT: My judgments for January round 1 have been posted. Check the bottom of the post below the line, as usual.

EDIT 2; And now Round 2 is up as well.

My judgments for December's final round are done; if I don't hear from Blydden today I'll just call the month, because it's been long enough. I'm sorry finishing took this long but it was a month of really good cards! I think that in a pinch two judges would enough to have a clear winner, anyhow.

Thank you!
void_nothing that last challenge was excellent. It seemed simple on the surface but was quite a challenging challenge for us challengers.
