However, I'd never want to force anyone to make all challenges include a rarity any more than you'd want to say "All first round cards must be white, all second round cards must be blue..."
Excuse me, but I want to be sure I've understood it well. A plan like the one I made in my previous post would be fine if it were just for one month then, right?
You just don't want to always be like that. Key word is "always".

Absolutely. When you're hosting you can put together whatever slate of challenges you like. That's my whole point - I'm never going to force any hosts to do or not do specific challenges. I don't want the rules to do that, either.
Psst, check the second page of Custom Card Contests & Games! Because of the daily contests, a lot of games fall down to there.

Ok, now I've got it. Many thanks! I had an idea like that for my next month as host and I wanted to make sure it was fine.

In other news, I've just signed up as a judge. Until I'm still unemployed I will have all the time in the world to keep judging.

And I'll say it already as a judge for the "common month": remember New World Order! A common card must be appropriate at common! I can't just take, say, Niv-Mizzet Reborn and stick a common rarity on it instead of mythic and submit that! Or better, I could if it met the other Main Challenge requirements, but then I, as a judge, will give you a very very low score, deducting many points from many sections of the rubric.

[mention]void_nothing[/mention]: If you agree, I think this should also be put into the clarifications.

Haste is secondary in green tertiary in black right?
[mention]Dragonlover[/mention]: This is a general question, so I guess I can still answer it even if I'm a judge.

Haste is secondary in both green and black currently. Until not too long ago, it was secondary in black and tertiary in green (mostly on constructed cards in green). Recently, it has been promoted to secondary in green too, so now it's primary in red (obviously), and secondary in both black and green. No color is currently tertiary in haste.

To [mention]bravelion83[/mention] [mention]slimytrout[/mention] [mention]void_nothing[/mention],

I am feeling very much under the weather today and cannot polish and finish my card design before the current deadline. I will be able to do so with a one-day extension. If that is unable to be granted, then I completely understand.

Some reading for both contestants and judges about designing commons.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2002-06-10
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2011-04-18

Now, it's worth mentioning that those articles are 8 and 17 years old, and design philosophy has shifted at least a little. So the final point is an important one: to see what belongs at common, look at the recent commons. (That's a Gatherer link, it just didn't play well with BB code.)

Everything's fine here, Bly. The guidelines allow the host to grant a 24-hour extension (not more), and that's exactly what happened here. So don't worry, think about your submission, and take your time, just not too much! :) And most of all, get well soon!

Gatherer links don't notoriously work properly here because of the square brackets they contain. I would honestly take a look at the whole current Standard format, especially the Core Set. I feel like only looking at one set might not be enough, but it's still good advice.

Gatherer resources:
• The link in The_Hittite's post ("recent commons") points to a Gatherer page containing all the commons from the most recent set at the time of writing (Throne of Eldraine).
• All the commons in Standard (copy and paste the URL removing the red X):
https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&rarity=+[XC]&format=+[%22Standard%22]
• All the commons in the most recent core set (M20) (copy and paste the URL removing the red X):
https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&rarity=+[XC]&set=+[%22Core%20Set%202020%22]

I would also link to the article and wiki page about New World Order. I would like to emphasize from the wiki page:
One of the rules of New World Order is that common cards don't affect more than one other card while on the battlefield for simplicity of tracking the board.
And also, the challenges about designing commons from the GDS's:

From GDS1 - Challenge 6, "Game, set, match", design all the commons of a single color from a small set plus the prerelease promo: submissions, judging.

In the GDS2 it was the very first challenge, given to contestants in the very first article of the main show and judged in the following one ("Common ground").

In the GDS3, the closest is the last challenge, "Pack and play", where the contestants had to design the content of a whole booster pack (about two thirds of which are commons).

A lot of material, but as you said, it's all to the benefit of both players and jugdes.

Somehow I feel even worse than I did yesterday.
Best of luck to both Flatline and Subject16!
I still plan on judging for December. First, I just need to get well, so I can properly focus.

[mention]Blydden[/mention] Unfortunately today I've also joined you, I'm not well now either, even though it's just something temporary. Again, I wish you (and me too now) to get well soon. And we will, and we will come back stronger than before! If you need to talk, you know where to find me.

Anyway, I managed to did my judgments on time even with the original deadline. Don't worry, I've got a tie.

Thank you for everything you do here. I think [mention]slimytrout[/mention] can confirm, but I'll say this month hasn't been easy from our point of view of host and judge. We've talked a lot behind the scenes to decide how to proceed each time. But in the end we did it! I want to congratulate you, slimytrout, for your excellent job, publicly too. I hope to see you hosting again soon. And hopefully I'll be there again too!

And speaking of judgments, mine for December Round 1 have just been posted. Yes, this was quicker than expected, even on my part. Well, there we go. Ok, now on to the CCL.

The mechanics article for THB has just gone up, so now all four mechanics in THB are public. That's all I needed to host my next month, that I have already fully ready in a local Word file. That's to say that I'm ready to host January. I'll remember everyone as we get closer to the end of the month, but I thought I might just as well throw it out now.

I hope it doesn't count as double post seeing how a week has passed, but my judgments for December Round 2 are in.

I also renew my intention to host January. I've got everything ready already, I've just got to write some of the intros. But all challenges, clarifications, and whatever else is ready in a local file.
