@EonAon

you may not use any affinity cards, but people who would later contribute ideas might use affinity cards.. since a modular deck would obviously be heavy on artifacts. So for the sake of concentrating ideas onto one thread, I suggest just put that into the affinity thread. :)

what do you all think of using 2x The Underworld Cookbook as an engine in Izzet Phoenix decks as another possible engine. This is just an idea I am level 1 theorizing but I like the idea of having a cheap consistent discard outlet that could into a removal engine and lifegain for aggressive decks. Might want to add another synergistic creature for the deck to "use all of the parts buffalo" (something like the crackling drake sb plan in historic, but easier on the mana), but right now Im thinking of if it is better than faithless salvaging. I have a list I am working on with Prismari Commmand and the options it brings are interesting.

RE Modular / Affinity: Folks, just call it robots.

RE Underworld Cookbook: I have seen it being used to create mass food tokens for bringing back the troll king out of the graveyard. It's cute but grave hate shuts it down completely.

Before Covid most of the stores in my area had stopped even trying to host Modern tournaments and the few that didn't were struggling to get eight people. I was already seeing Modern as a dying format and figured Covid would kill it off, but I just did a 22 player tournament and most stores seem to be giving Modern a try again. Is this a local phenomenon? Is it just people desperate to play any Magic?

People desperate for mtg. I think MH2 and covid mean that modern will live longer than 2 more years. Long term it may work as no RL legacy.
I am more positive about its future than I was, but Pioneer is a huge threat, despite being different. Wotc know that they must make Pioneer work, and Legacy is not going to die for it as in many ways it has already, and is now a huge community format. Tgat leaves Modern in the firing line still, but it has a chance of identity with MH2, 3 etc.

Must admit that I am tempted to build Modern enchantress, but since I own Legacy enchantress and Canlander enchantress I am holding off for now.
I love sitting behind a solitary confinement as much as the next guy, but it all feels a bit cookie cutter 'here is your deck'.

there are some people already building modern enchantress over at salvation. The deck looks promising. And one build even has some sort of combo built into it.

I hope more decks are playable and Tier 1. That would be sweet.

I remember back in the days when Twin was 12% or Amulet was 8%, people would say that's not diversity. Nowadays, you're pretty likely to see UR Prowess in a 5 match league. I'd say 20% of the meta, but that's okay. I'm glad things haven't changed over there at WotC headquarters. Still, Modern seems like a very fun format. I played for 3 weeks with Elementals, finishing 11-1. But now I can't play due to work.

I'd dare not play it to win at a high competition level like a GP or Pro Tour. I think I'd off myself if my mtg career depended on me winning though. (although someone can just point out that I should play UR Prowess and master the mirror and you're not wrong. I just hate that type of strategy)
Standard - Will pick up what's good when paper starts
Pre Modern - Do not own anymore
Pioneer - DEAD
Modern - Amulet Titan, Elementals, Trollementals, BR Asmo/Goryo's, Yawmoth Chord
Legacy - No more cards, will rebuy Sneak Show when I can
Limited - Will start when paper starts
Commander - Nope

Ephemerate and eternal witness is a very powerful combo. I was on the losing side of this yesterday, and while I got stomped it was really nice to see a deck like this. Picture Junk. The witness gets any card, and then can get the ephemerate back with the rebound effect and do it all over again for 1 white mana. So now you have Grief and Witness bouncing from graveyard to play, stripping your opponent's hand and refilling your own with Thoughtsiezes, Trophy, lands, anything that hits the yard comes back to your hand for value. Stabilize and finish the game with Siego Rhino bouncing around for luls.

Sure all of that is disrupted by grave hate, but it's still junk with a pretty solid board control beatdown plan. I like it.

Well it looks like I was completely wrong about Urza's Saga being terrible. Going from a price trend around €10 to €36 in two days or so lol.
On one hand it's cool seeing decks like Hardened Scales having some initial success with the new cards, on the other I'm pretty tired of these wild ass prices for pieces of cardboard. Those crazy price spikes are just out of hand, at least to a pleb like me.
I still don't like the card hehe, but again, I'm an idiot.

What's not to like with Urzas? I think a lot of people over look the part where you get 2 constructs initially. The card is fine and not super OP but I think there is a disgusting artifact control archetype that just got a ton of new cards. That is toxic to the format and I hope ppl stay away.

Do you think a serious artifact deck can go nuts in a format with Creator Karn? Modern Horizons 2 has only been out a couple of days and I've seen a couple of crazy decks here and there on streams/youtube. I'm just kinda curious how they're going to hold up against decks with Karn.
Maybe they will be borderline broken, but stuff like Izzet Blitz will still dominate the more competitive stuff. I don't know.

I could see a new artifact deck with karn being pretty nasty too, but not sure how competitive it would be. I just like Karn hehe.

I'm pretty sure they can stop Karn from hitting, or stall him off until they combo. This is all theory mind you. I do not play these decks other than to learn them. The last one I messed with was Whirza.

I mean enchantress in Legacy is traditionally full of combos- RIP helm, The winds/replacement draw effect enchantments and Emrakul/Sanctum/Karakas (as if one beat with Emmy is not enough). So I think a combo is entirely in keeping with the deck's history elsewhere.

Very possible cause they are using boros as the base colors for the new stuff and Galvanic Blast Lightning Bolt Shrapnel Blast Boros Charm are easy includes that help enable wins and can be tasked with walker removal or just straight up Oblivion Ring and its variants. The colorless version might have more issues unless it can cut in problem solvers.

In theory or do you have something specific in mind? Asking for a friend :P

Whirza with Oko was a control deck and it occasionally played Karn for the mirror, but it didn't last because it reduced its consistency. After the Opal/Oko ban I can't remember any whirza deck playing Karn; Bridge/Thopter-Sword was more than enough for most match ups. Hell, I had a positive match up against E- and traditional Tron, even when they played Karn TGC. Though I saw some Dice Factory decks play Karn TGC, but I don't think they will play a large part of the meta.

Blitz decks will keep any durdle-y artifact decks in check (and any Urza's Saga dekcs for that matter), plus no one really played Artifact hate because there wasn't an artifact deck in the meta; and in combination with it being the first few weeks, no-one will REALLY focus in battling the meta (since there is none tbh).

Yeah I don't really think solitude impacts the game the way grief can. It's cool in theory but doesnt UW control have better things to put in their deck? Same goes for subtlety.

EDIT: To elaborate a bit, both cards suffer from the same weakness...what if they are no targets for the effect? Grief is more universal, and its effect is strong early or late.
Grief is the stronger card, but Ephemerate has few good black targets making it hard to play in its ideal deck. Ragavan is nuts, Dakkon is also nuts, and Esper Stoneblade is looking both decent and fun.

Endurance seems good as a gy remover. What do people think of this card? Or is scavenging ooze still better?

Take this for what little if anything it's worth, since my evaluation on basically every single MH2 card has been wrong (maybe just not enough playing during COVID), but I feel like the cheat cost on a green card, and a low cost green card at that is of much less value. And the body isn't much different than Loaming Shaman, which is only fringe playable on a good day.

Maybe being both mana free and instant, while also dodging half the counterspells in the format is good enough. I feel like I would rather have Ooze though.

I do hope people don't find it useful.. so the price goes down a bit. Right now, the price of Endurance is brutal at 20+ usd on most sites.

maybe the 4 toughness, flash, reach, and can be a free spell cause people to over hype.

Prices on magic cards in general are pretty out of control.

I do know about pricing, I must admit I follow it intensely, both in Europe and the US.
Generally you need to wait, and have patience.
Number of cards under priced on pre order prices is tiny compared to over priced. Relax, relax, relax. Prices in most cases will drop.
Saga is an interesting one, because it has potential to get a ban hammer according to some.

According to MTGGoldfish's price trackers, as of this post the estimated value of a set booster box is more than 2 times the average price of a box, which means just about every rare and mythic will see a drop in price.
