By the looks of this meta would you say that a deck like faeries can get away with collective brutality main with thoughtseize sb? It serves purpose trading value for dead bitterblossom and fuels cling to dust to create a life buffer for the strategy, but it's often too minor impact for maindeck.

Seems solid vs. Burn and a way to get rid of Mutagenic Growth on your turn against a 1/2 creature from Prowess.
Standard - Will pick up what's good when paper starts
Pre Modern - Do not own anymore
Pioneer - DEAD
Modern - Amulet Titan, Elementals, Trollementals, BR Asmo/Goryo's, Yawmoth Chord
Legacy - No more cards, will rebuy Sneak Show when I can
Limited - Will start when paper starts
Commander - Nope

Replacing Thughtseize for CoBu is how I side vs Burn, so basically you are skewing to a known burn type meta.

Wait, Skyclave, the 1WW, exile a perm, foil, for around $8? I saw a buyer on FB offering $12.50 each, so I assumed they were currently at $15 or more. I may try to get some myself.
FYI, the rest of the mail came in. Skyclave 1: $8.88, Skyclave 2: $8.99, Colonnade (x2 same seller) : $8.95/ea. Total: $35.77

Given I sold a SINGLE Colonnade for that years ago, that's wild to me.

Beautiful! I am trying to get a playset via a kidicarus auction. Probably not the smartest, as these end up going for more than if I had just bought from 4 individual buyers. :unamused:

Those colonnades look dope. I don't know if I should get them or the latest expedition version when I get around to buying them. I like both.

Honestly, I don't really like the new expeditions. Which sounds super weird coming from me, who loves all kinds of weird promos and foils. Just something about these doesn't feel... as cool or as nice or as special. But I also have several of the original Expedition shocklands, and those feel really special.

I got the extended art foil Skyclaves for 10 euros each early on. I was skeptical about Extended art foils at first, but I've been liking them more and more, but won't really spend an exorbitant amount for them - see Uros etc. Plus, I've found they don't curve, especially relevant for Commander Legend foils where even in Europe they were trash.

Kaldheim seems to be the first set that arts were considered to be truly extended rather than "zoomed-in" though.

I really liked some of the new expeditions, see Catacombs, Misty and Heath, but really hated the other blue fetches. For shocks I had the OG ravnica expeditions shocks, but nothing can really compare to Ravnica 1 and Ravnica 2 foils with the watermark imo - Rob Alexander ftw.

Also, they're thematic with my 5 Color Niv Modern and Commander decks.

I never got in on the OG foils, but I have several RTR eras. The old ones are just just SO much now. But they really are beautiful!

Heliod Combo is the "deck to beat" right now, Izzet and Monored Blitz are still great. The most common Shadow deck now is Jund Shadow, and Green Tron is back too. Amulet is still good, maybe like tier 2 or 1.5, probably not tier 1 tho. I've heard some chatter about 5c Niv-to-Light? Idk what to make of it.

Control is good, but the best build isn't 100% known. Esper is killing it when TSPJendrek pilots it, otherwise people seem to like UW?

Subject no.3: Mystic Sanctuary is another terrible modern banning.

What's with all the need to totally annihilate control decks from modern? I know, control was never supposed to be running Green, it was never supposed to run cards like Uro or Field of the dead(but it did). But even if it was not supposed to play such cards, it was supposed to play cards like Mystic Sanctuary. Mystic Sanctuary is a card that also helps lower tier decks. One of my decks was UR stuff: UR Breach, UR Moon, UR Control. Those decks also got hit by accident. This is terrible for the format.
Those decks now lost one good tool and they have to face more Tron and face cards like Veil of summer and Teferi, Time Raveler on the opposition.
Really sad for the control players overall and especially heavily nerfs the UR tier 3-4 variants.

Subject no.4: Modern is establishing itself as the format where you fear for banning anything.

That said, I already sold off a lot of stuff(and I had like A LOT of stuff to sell).

Subject no.5: Modern is the format where Veil of summer and Teferi, Time Raveler will forever be legal.
That's also another fail from the recent announcement.
I sold almost everything over a year ago. The new/old frames in the next set got me thinking about the game and looking around.

I then see Sanctuary is banned?! Then I see Teferi and Veil are NOT banned?!?

Empty the cart. No way I give Wizards another penny.

The ban announcements as I go back to get caught up? An absolute JOKE. Not just for Modern.

They killed our format. People want to say the format cannot police itself? Well not when you ban the decks out of the game that could do it, while putting pressure on the format from Standard's absolutely flawed Design and Development process, if they even want to call it that. What a joke, and it was a joke 2 years ago or whenever Oko was around if not longer than that, its been so long.

What an absolute joke. Truly, anyone still stuck with this format and cards (long since devalued I'm sure) is as robertleva said, stockholm syndrome.

And Tron still exists? Titan? %$#%$#% mother %$#% Teferi?

Unbelievable, and they ban SANCTUARY?!

Glad I didnt pull the trigger.

There's also the hybrid "Jund-like" value "4-color control" decks playing Omnath and Wrenn and Six have been great. It's basically "all the best cards in wurg"

I've been playing it quite a bit, as the remnants of Uromnath, and it has been really great. Even without Field and Sanctuary, every card is just a powerhouse must-answer threat, backed by powerful counters (Force/Cryptic) and topped off with Bolts and Helixes. Sanctuary was a universally busted card. Free, repeatable Snapcaster Mage that doesn't exile is just asking to be abused. As someone who cast the same Time Warp over and over again thanks to Sanctuary, I'm definitely OK with it being gone. Card was nuts.

Every card on the last announcement deserved to go, and the format is better off because of it.

I guess folks forgot GY hate, land hate, or extraction exists?

A card that in a vacuum is coming online 'late' by modern standards is too much?

Look at the deck you are playing. Format simply became a monstrosity. Glad you are able to enjoy it, but Wizards screwed the format over years ago.

If that's an acceptable deck? But locking someone in a loop is just too much?

LOL.

I could imagine that it's a great meta call, because it hits SO MANY good targets. Outside of UW Control and Mono W Taxes, it feels like it hits SOMETHING relevant in every top deck. This is my list (but will look at selling the $$$ pieces soon to pivot to UW/Esper to match paper): https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9956/ZWqYVN.png

I'd like to note in thread that Modern Horizons 2 is confirmed for this year.

https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2021-03-18

They also specifically note that it will have:
It brings a host of powerful new toolbox cards, strong themes to try out, and delightful throwbacks directly to Modern—and all your favorite Eternal formats!
So yeah, it's almost certain to have a noticeable effect on the format, how similar that effect is to the first Modern Horizons (in both good and bad aspects) is yet to be determined, but I'm hopeful.

nice news on MH2.. :)

looking forward to see what these "delightful throwbacks" will be. Maybe one will be the reprint of flametongue kavu into modern, not a strong card, but I've been waiting for a long time now to become legal here.

I'm EXTREMELY worried, considering the untold havoc MH1 gave us. Whether or not the tools and toys it gives us make the format better, I anticipate 100% that something from MH2 is either going to be banned or going to get something else banned as a result.

Exciting times for sure, but between inevitable bannings and extremely likely supplanted staples, just seems to continue the theme of forcefully pushing an artificial "rotation" of "non-rotating" formats. But hopefully the dust will be settling before we go back to playing in paper anyway.

I am worried as well considering that the damage Hogaak and MH1 did to Modern has never been recovered. We do need reprints of W6 and T3feri so you can bet on those two. What ever "bone" they throw to graveyard strategies will undoubtedly be degenerate and cause problems. We shall see.

I know people are worried about Modern Horizons 2 breaking open Modern. Here's the way I look at it.

Modern Horizons is supposed to "break" something and have many tidbits that help so many different strategies, just like its predecessor did. How disappointing would it be if every Standard set caused 2 or more cards to be banned from Modern, then MH2 was weaker than Standard? Every freaking Standard set has a Mystic Sanctuary, an Oko, an Uro, Companion original rules, Field of the Dead, and more. So, imagine an MH2 where not a single card is banned. Unless everything was done perfectly (and as we can see with WotC, this is impossible; I doubt any of us could do it either TBH), the set would be a failure to me.
Standard - Will pick up what's good when paper starts
Pre Modern - Do not own anymore
Pioneer - DEAD
Modern - Amulet Titan, Elementals, Trollementals, BR Asmo/Goryo's, Yawmoth Chord
Legacy - No more cards, will rebuy Sneak Show when I can
Limited - Will start when paper starts
Commander - Nope

I mean, you're right but the mentality of this community up until this point has been "bans are bad" and we shouldn't be expecting bans every set. I agree WOTC needs to be allowed to design space to create cards in for Standard that may break eternal formats.

I think they should, however, at least TRY to do a better job of giving us playable cards that dont destroy the entire format (hogaak) with a product specifically designed for Modern. Keep an eye out for ANY card that has a way to cheat it into play, or some stupid alternate casting cost.

maybe I'm thinking about this too much but I'm kinda worried when they said "we wanted to delight players excited by higher power level and greater complexity". Hopefully it doesn't give us more format warping stuff. although I guess Gaak and astrolabe were the only really busted cards though first time around
