Struggle for the Sword - 1R
Instant
Unequip target Equipment that's equipped. Then, target creature you control fights the creature that Equipment equipped. Then, if the second creature dies this way, equip that Equipment to your creature.

Grab the Wheel - 1W
Instant
Target creature you control fights each creature that was tapped to pay the crew cost of target Vehicle this turn. Then, if each of those creatures dies this way, tap that Vehicle and remove it from combat. It doesn't untap during its controller's next turn.

Both of these are pretty niche, though flavorful. Both also ended up much wordier than I expected!

Working an a tentpole mechanic for an upcoming set, tentatively given the ability word Premonition - As long as the first card played this turn was a {type}.....

A few notes.

At first glance, it's just another condition-checker, not so different than threshold or delirium. But it's a condition that you can choose to achieve (or not) each turn, depending on your gameplay.

It's generally intended to be achieved in the posiitive sense - "As long as the first card played this turn was an artifact" as opposed to "...wasn't an artifact..."

Although I've expressed it as checking for card types, it can check any given quality - legendary, Rebel, mana value less than 4, and so on. I've written it as checking a card being played to allow lands to be included. You can still activate abilities (and they can still trigger) without affecting the outcome.

I intend many of the commons to simply check the condition to turn an ability "on," but uncommons and rares to have multiple checks with different outcomes. This allows a player to really shape their turn!

Because it checks what the first spell was, regardless of who cast it, it allows players to use instants (or permanents with flash) to thwart their opponent's ambitions.

It's funny how putting a limit on what can be sacrificed (to nudge the player toward saccing trinkets) actually makes it much more complicated to play. I suppose you should be allowed to sac your Batterskull to cast a Portent for free, but that's simply not the playstyle I'm trying to encourage here.

Also, lowkey gives stuff flash.

w, Sacrifice Martial Regimen: Put any combination of first strike and +1/+1 counters on target creature equal to the number of charge counters on Martial Regimen. If two or more first strike counters would be put on that creature, you may put a double strike counter on it instead.

Kinda makes sense, doesn't it? It'd be pretty easy to /cycle this for different keywords, but I think I would want to add some additional text to help differentiate between them all, and salt in a little more flavor.

Rurrig's probably a little over the top, since he can one-shot a player, possibly more than one if you can copy that ability or damage. But a one-trick pony, much like the old Channel-Fireball combo.

For each creature you control, create a colorless Equipment artifactvtoken with equip 1 and "Equipped creature gets +1/+1" and attach it to that creature.

This was a hard one to cost correctly! Anthem effects are generally pretty cheap, and mass +1/+1 counters not much more.

Trying to puzzle out the right number of forms, and the ratio of forms with upside vs. forms with drawbacks vs. forms that are just a little different.

Eel-Infested Marshes enters the battlefield tapped. You may choose not to untap it during your untap step.
At the end of turn, create a black Eel creature token with wither and base power and toughness equal to the amount of unspent black mana that left your mana pool this turn. Whenever Eel-Infested Marshes becomes untapped, sacrifice all Eels created this way.
