turning lands into creatures is and always will be one of the cool ways to play magic.

but sadly it goes up against the wall of - losing lands is unfun
and
the wall of - boards-wipes

also I've never really seen it power out. mainly when you want to go off you have to pay for the spell and that takes away creature power. for example. . .back in the overrun days. . .you would animate to go off only having to pay for the spell and that wasn't any fun.

but im for exploring the "vein" of animating lands into creatures

this card puts you on a level ground as all lands are creatures but it would also put a target on your back.

but I really like the card and cards like it

Winning with animated lands is actually my plan with Tatyova. Untap effects like Turnabout and Benefactor's Draught (would be really nice under an Isochron Scepter), indestructibility/regen, non-land bounces like Crush of Tentacles, etc. I am planning to have forms of protection in there, such as one of the animation cards will be Sylvan Awakening.

A must have in my Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper animate land deck, because the alternative (Living Plane) is too pricy.

I think this is a great card for mono white decks. Their biggest weakness is card advantage, and I find that it's much better at generating value through recursion than card draw (cards like Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle, Restoration Specialist and Sevinne's Reclamation go a long way to that end).

Outside of mono white decks, I think this still has some potential for decks like Gerrard or Tuvasa that want to be able to get their cards back.

Not really card advantage, just something to do with extra lands. I imagine most white decks would prefer something like Sun Titan though. Actual card advantage.

I mean, it is if you use conspire, right? Play one Mine Excavation, get two cards back from the graveyard? Is that not card advantage?

Mine Excavation is card advantage in monowhite (assuming you conspire it), so notable in that regard. It does seem like it requires a lot of setup though - you need two cards worth recurring, plus two white creatures to untap. Artifacts and enchantments are the two card types that are usually hardest to get into the graveyard - either you need to wait for your opponents to throw removal at them, or you need some way to sacrifice them (Trading Post, Aura of Silence, etc).

Seems like it could be good in Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle, Alela, Artful Provocateur, or Kykar, Wind's Fury - all both have lots of creatures available, and a high count of artifacts/enchantments. Particularly good if you're running a bunch of eggs. Alela might not have enough white creatures though.

I don't think it will be good in a typical white deck (without a heavy artifact/enchantment theme) - if you only have ~10 cards to get back, it will be difficult to get full value from it.

I've been using this to reasonable success in white border Alesha, if I'm being honest. It's clearly not the best in class (it's no ashnod's altar lol), but it's still serviceable, and great in the white border pool I've limited myself to.

Wow! Sorine Relicbane, Soldevi Heretic is credited for the flavor text of 13 unique cards. I wonder if he'll ever get printed as a legendary creature card.

Skull Catapult looks.... passable, but underwhelming. I've played Skirsdag Cultist before, but it never ended up making the cut. Didn't know there was an older version of it, but I shouldn't be surprised. Two damage kills some things, but not enough to count on it as consistent removal. Meanwhile, costing a mana and a tap to activate limits its utility as a sacrifice outlet. I think I would usually prefer Blasting Station - less efficient creature-to-damage ratio, but the untap ability and free activation give it more utility. If I specifically cared about having removal, or about having a good sacrifice outlet, other options exist.

-2 cards, +2 cards. However, you are getting superior card selection.

Anyway, Skull Catapult is...okay, if you need direct damage and you aren't in red. It's also an...okay sac outlet, but severely limited by its restrictions. Blasting Station pwns it in most ways: Costs 1 less to cast and activate (i.e., activation costs nothing but the tap), and if you have a way to poop out tokens, but it does only 1 damage*. And Blasting Station is still more for nonred decks, since Goblin Bombardment is clearly better.

*Poop out tokens and it does a lot more.

I'm so confused. How is playing one (1) Mine Excavation "-2 cards"? The creatures you Conspire with don't die or anything...

Love the artwork and just how fair, yet good, the card is!
Especially how the card says "look at" instead of "reveal", otherwise you'd give away a lot of info about what's tucked away for the moment.
I've put it in my Ezuri, Renegade Leader deck at the same time i added Vivien, Champion of the Wilds and with the amount of mana the deck can generate it is set to stay.

Good that the card came up, because otherwise i could've forgotten to pick up Vivien Reid after the upcoming rotation...

Slots lovingly into my Horde of Notions Elemental Tribal. Dumps the big creatures from my hand (where they're cheaper to cast in the graveyard) whilst finding other absurd stuff.

I like it. I don't have anywhere I can run it, but it's certainly good enough for the cards that want it. Someday I'll run it somewhere. I'm glad it doesn't have a "only activate when you could cast a sorcery" line on it.
I swap decks a lot
wr Avacyn with defensive blinking
ur OG Jhoira spellslinger without MLD or eldrazi
and some other stuff that are more or less messy

A friend of mine uses it to good effect. Just, EOT, get stuff. It's definitely very good when you're in topdeck mode and are just trading in lands for whatever is in the top X (usually 7-10). I should probably get a copy for myself.
