No time to talk about this deck because I need to celebrate passing my 4th written CPL test with Lily. But I think it's probably pretty self explanatory.

Step 1: Smash
Step 2: Pass
Step 3: Kill everyone by turn 4 or so

Okay, I have some time now so I'll go into slightly more detail.

This is basically a cEDH deck, or at least my attempt at it. So the deck is extremely focused on getting Slicer out as quickly as possible. Turn 1 is actually pretty dang possible. Jeweled Lotus does it for free, Mana Crypt does it with a basic land, and Lion's Eye Diamond does it at a very painful cost. Gamble can also fetch lotus or mana crypt (of course crypt won't be t1 unless you have another red source after casting gamble). So 4 draws in the deck will enable a T1 Slicer basically on their own.

Beyond that, there's a lot of +1 mana cards like Lotus Petal and Rite of Flame, so if you get 2 of those you can t1 Slicer. There are 14 of those by my math. So drawing 2 out of 14 isn't that unlikely really. Some don't work together and some are conditional, though.

Failing at that, there are some things that will let you bank an extra mana to enable a T2 cast. Between these three categories of things it should be pretty trivial to get him out on turn 2. There are 53 total cards that provide mana to get to 3, and you basically just need any 3, so long as they aren't all 3 basic lands (which are only about half of the total, so pretty unlikely).

Using a hypergeometric calculator, I think we've got:

Odds for drawing one of the solo T1 enablers: 29%
Odds of drawing 2 of the +1 mana cards for T1 casting: 31%
Odds of hitting at least one fast mana or banking card for T2 casting: 93% (technically lower because having a mountain or two mountains, depending on the fast mana involved, isn't guaranteed)

So as we can see, we're almost guaranteed a T2 slicer, and a T1 might actually be better than a coin flip, which is insane. Especially since we can just mulligan hands that don't enable a T1 or T2 play.

So he's out T1 or T2. He's got haste. No one will have blockers, or at least, someone won't have blockers, or at LEAST someone won't want to chump block. So bam, we've got him flipped. Every turn we pass him, every turn he swings for 6 commander damage. If nobody blocks, even without boosting his power, the table will be dead within roughly 3 turn cycles. If you play him turn 1, and again assuming no blocks, you'd expect to swing for lethal on the last opponent on your turn 4.

So that's pretty stupid.

Of course, we're going to make it stupider. Equipment can drastically speed up the clock, as well as give us some sweet bonus value. The Swords of X and Y are unbelievably stupid here, by providing evasion, protection, and (assuming we connect) trigger twice per turn, with the benefits going directly to us. SoFaI will let us draw as many as 8 cards per turn cycle and deal 16 direct damage, while shortening our commander's clock substantially. A Jeska, Thrice Reborn played the turn after Slicer will basically guarantee that any hit against a player is lethal. And Destructive Urge is hilariously evil - good luck ever coming back from sacrificing 2 lands per turn starting on turn 2-3.

Just to put the nail in the coffin, we've got a few stax pieces to slow our opponents down, and a few removal pieces to disrupt combos, blockers, etc. Somewhat slim pickings in red, but we do what we can. Devastating Dreams is particularly brutal, blowing chump blocks out of the way along with setting everyone back several turns on lands. Good luck rebuilding before Slicer does his thing.

I don't expect this will be a deck I play for very long, but it looks likely to be the strongest voltron commander in the format. The only real competition that comes to mind is Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice, who can protect himself better than Slicer, but Slicer is much faster. I don't think Light-paws can kill someone realistically before turn 3, which means killing the table around turn 5 even in a basically perfect draw. And that's pretty all-in, any removal and you're basically screwed, whereas Slicer can bounce back somewhat easier between haste and not using many auras. Perfect semi-reasonable draw with Slicer would probably be T1 crypt mountain jeska's will, play Slicer jitte and equip. 2 counters, use them to buff on the next turn and hit for 14 getting 4 counters, next swing is for 22 (lethal), next swing is for 22 (again lethal) assuming that player isn't already dead. So if your second opponent kills your first opponent, you win the game on turn 2, whereas if your second opponent kills your third opponent you'll have to wait until turn 3.

I dunno, seems at least cEDH-adjacent.

Game report:

Mike's is P1, to my right.
T1: ancient tomb, mox diamond, slicer, swing at Harold, flip Slicer.
Harold swings 6 at Jon
Jon swings 6 at Mike
Mike swings 6 at Jon and makes 2 1/1 tokens.
T2: Land, Play Jeska, targeting Slicer. Kill Jon. Play martyr of ashes.
Harold swings at Mike, Mike blocks. Play his commander, Drafna, Founder of Lat-Nam.
Mike swings at Harold, Harold blocks.
T3: Land, Play whispersilk cloak, target Slicer with Jeska, equip cloak, Kill Mike.
Harold concedes.

So yeah, pretty effective tbh.

Whatta you think of Gauntlet of Might in slicer? been thinking about making a slightly more midrangey slicer deck that isn't quite as tilted CEDH, but still goes fairly hard, and it might be a reasonable thing to finally do with my gauntlet.

I don't think it's a very natural fit since you don't have any major mana sinks, or at least I can't think of any that I'd want to run. Ofc gauntlet is a powerful card, so depending how you build the deck it could be strong, but that build would have to be so different from mine that I don't think I could say much about it without seeing it.

A way more natural fit imo would be Zirilan of the Claw btw. There's a guy who knows how to use a bunch of mana in a cool way...

The thing I was kinda liking about gauntlet of power and might is the symmetrical pumping. Seems decent?

I'm kinda leaning toward having some endgame bombs and maybe some hilarious x pump spells but gotta noodle on design some more

Eh, I mean it's +1/+1. Pick just about any decent equipment (certainly any sword of X and Y) and it will be a lot more powerful on slicer.

Imo his design is antithetical to having other bombs because he plays in a way that makes the game as short as possible. Almost inevitably since he's goaded. It's like playing RDW in standard and then shoving in an 8-drop.

There are plenty of mono-red commanders that play a longer game rather than dealing 24 commander damage per turn cycle. I might suggest Plargg and Nassari besides the aforementioned zirilan. Although if you want to play big red bombs, Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded is my easy #1 choice.
