Damn right. Internet friends talk about potential shifts in reality brought on by any number of hypothetical causes. That gives me an idea for a story, though. Thanks @Guardman

@toctheyounger What's your take on the new The Mars Volta track? I'm cautiously optimistic about the new album because of it but I'm not in a position to go see them live for the tour, unfortunately.

It's supposed to have a more pronounced Latin influence, which is right up my alley lately. The video is Puerto Rican as hell and I'm here for it.

Saw it, loved it. Reminds me of somewhere between the Octahedron groove rock and L'via L'viaquez from Frances the Mute.

I'm just so glad they're back tbh. Between Ikey passing and Juan getting hit by a car we're lucky they're around at all.

@TheAmericanSpirit it's an anthology show, so I'd recommend watching the best episodes until the quality drops off enough that you lose interest. There's definitely some interesting stuff in there, it's just surrounded by a bunch of forgettable junk.

@DirkGently you gotta admit though, either you're one harsh critic or that is one ugly bell curve. Maybe I just had higher hopes.

Not that I can really claim to be some culture snob though. The last two shows I watched were Cathedral on the Sea and its sequel Heirs to the Land. If you like Spanish-language 14th century melodramas with truly unbelievable depths of personal tragedy, you'll love this. It's very cathartic, or at least that's I tell myself. 🤣

@TheAmericanSpirit Well it's Netflix. I'd say the curve is pretty representative for their content at large. Occasional gems buried in mountains of garbage. Obligatory plug for Russian Doll and Bojack.

@TheAmericanSpirit Dirk is just picky honestly many of his c shows are really good its just probably he has read/watched alot of sci-fi and has high standards. Sonnys edge and both three robots are much higher in my list, though I will say the commentary on three robots is more of a personal taste thing.

I would say that maybe 1/3 episodes really scratch that itch. I really liked Sonnie's Edge for example. Might be my favourite.
There are maybe 1/3 that are either boring or trying too hard to be cute or funny.
And 1/3 that make me think for a few moments, appreciate the animation, but that ultimately are forgettable.

Short stories are tough.
I just watched 'In Vaulted Halls' tonight and I think it was fine. I enjoyed it but I feel like they could have executed it better. I found the faces to be a bit uncanny. I liked the elements of the story, but feel like it was not put together well enough.
Jibaro was the season finale and it was excellent. Visually stunning, told a great story with no words. Multiple times I questioned if this was actually fully animated, it just looked so real.

so to me, I enjoy 2/3 of the episodes, which included 1/3 that I just really loved. Enough to rewatch.

I'll get behind Russian Doll but I do not understand the bojack thing. Tried a couple and just couldn't. Maybe it's that Will Arnett is very dry, I find him hit and miss for chuckles personally.

One that surprised me though was Big Mouth. I don't at all like Nick Kroll otherwise, but this show I really related to. I guess it just hit in those places I could relate to growing up. Its incredibly smutty in places, but it has a lot of heart regardless.

@EonAon Sonnie's edge being the first one delayed me watching the rest of the series for several years. The use of (I don't want a warn, but you can probably guess) as a plot device - especially one that makes the protagonist stronger - was extremely cringe imo. Especially coupled with a very...let's say "male gaze-y"...lesbian scene. The overall feeling I got is that the episode wants to say "(thing you can guess) is bad" (a very bold and controversial stance #brave :unamused: )...but is also getting off to it. There are some cool ideas in there too but the ending left a really bad taste in my mouth.

3 Robots was basically inoffensive and cute, I just didn't find it very memorable. First one was better than the second.

@Dunharrow other than disagreeing about sonnie's edge I agree on the overall assessment. Jibaro was wild, maybe the only episode that was too artsy for me lol. But I'd never disagree with anyone for loving it, it was really well done and unique.

@toctheyounger it takes a while to really find its footing I think. It was a long time ago that I watched the early episodes. But it ends up having some really interesting things to say if you stick with it. Honestly some of the darkest, realest stuff I've seen on TV despite the cartoony exterior.

I do love big mouth. I think it's a little long in the tooth at this point, but it's still a quality show and the early seasons are fantastic.

I think my favorite Netflix cartoon has been F is for Family. Bill Burr has just such a perfect delivery and it speaks to my working class depression.

Fair enough, I didn't give it long. Maybe I should have another shake at it.

Yeah Big Mouth has kinda spun out a bit, can't see it running much longer. I've enjoyed most of it regardless, and despite wanting to think of myself well I can relate to some of the more twisted characters in the show in ways. I laugh at Andrew Glouberman, but him and I aren't so different in some ways.

@DirkGently I can definitely see where in Sonnies edge could be off putting considering the overall themes it evoked.

@Dunharrow The uncanny valley parts and many of the segments are using a technique called rotoscope where you film the actors and animate over them. Some studios can get it really done well then there are others that cant quite get past the uncanny valley. Jibaro itself seems to either be using that technique quite well or the animators really knew what they were doing in their CGI.

Maybe it's me and the 1000's of hours of cartoons I've watched and enjoyed or the sci-fi elements overall. I agree with Dunharrow that I enjoyed most of it mostly as one shots with a few I really wish they could have developed more on.
