I'm not going to lie, you do have to go a bit deep to find enough - but it's not bad. Here's the list.
Decklist
Approximate Total Cost:
I got to play a decent number of games tonight - 5 3-player games, of which I won 3. The most absurd game was the final one, in which:
One opponent was playing Niv-Mizzet, Parun.
The other opponent was playing Kunoros, Hound of Athreos.
I kept a gemstone caverns + sol ring start with no other lands, and then drew 2 lands in the next 10 turns or so.
...and I still won that game. Mostly thanks to politics - I was so nonthreatening that the Kunorous player was easily steered into killing the niv player for me, and then their deck was pretty weak and I was able to outvalue them by getting mavinda value while kunoros was out of play, and then relying on other engines while he was in play.
Generally I'm not a fan of spellslinger decks, but the fact that everything ends up putting numbers on the board and into combat, instead of just endlessly shuffling cards around and eventually finding some infinite, makes it a nice hybrid of aggro and spellslinger. It does seem pretty high variance, though - in particular, games with Monastery Mentor were frequently just off-the-chain blowouts, whereas others were a lot slower. MM is probably the best card in the deck. Another fun bit of synergy though - Ojutai Exemplars + Cathars' Crusade sure felt spicy (and ultimately gives me the win in that last game).
