Solve the Equation rates to be probably the most EDH played card of the set I'd think :P

It's not flashy or even good, but Fabricate sees a disturbing amount of play.

Mage Hunter is probably a meta call. Nice to see life loss instead of damage from it as well.
Idk, 1 life is so trivial, and 4 cmc is a lot. Compared to something like Kambal, Consul of Allocation it's kinda night and day - Kambal triggers more frequently (unless your opponents are doing some all-in copy spells combo build), costs less, and has ~4x the impact per trigger. I don't think it'll get played outside of limited, despite the sweet name.

Oh, yes, Kambal can just WRECK decks. MH is a step down in the same space but at least only one color.

re: Mage Hunter

Something I am kinda finding as I play some again is that 4 cmc feels like a boat anchor most of the time, like I almost never want two 4 cmc spells clogging my hand (even in dedicated ramp decks sometimes). So I'm looking really hard at things that cost 4.

I'd rather have a haymaker of 5, 6, or 7 than some 4 cmc card that does incremental stuff. At 4 i need Beast Whisperer or Thassa, Deep-Dwelling level of dominance to get interested.

I could maybe see it in a slow meta's Sygg, River Cutthroat deck where the life loss turns into card draw, but even that is really iffy.

galazeth prismari and tanazir quandrix get a big meh from me. Seems like each elder dragon is less interesting than the last (note that's not a harsh criticism, I really like silverquill and the RW on is aight).

Wandering Archaic is super sweet. Can't imagine ever casting the flip side, though.

Galazeth Prismari and all the treasure tokens kinda explained why Prismari has big spells instead of the popular small-cantrips Izzet favors. All the effort putting into mastering the big spell are considered "treasures" and will contribute to you achieving that big spell one day.

The school vibe of this set is undeniable.

I am bummed that Flamescroll Celebrant has a RW color identity rather than mono-red because it would otherwise fit nicely into Torbran as a wider Harsh Mentor effect. It might still find its way into Gisela.

Mage Hunter, I dunno, I like attrition decks with things like Wound Reflection, but 4 mana might be a lot for so narrow an effect. If it did two damage or hit all opponents whenever it was triggered, maybe.
I have 68 active EDH decks, with more in progress. I don't consider this a problem. Do you?
I am also one of those barbarians who enjoys winning by turning creatures sideways.

Far as we know, Prismari doesn't directly tell student to give up on a project, though real life needs might say otherwise.

Prismari and Quandrix are the geek and nerd of this cycle of Elder Dragons.

If Silverquill's the prep and Lorehold's the jock, that leaves Witherbloom as the goth.

Extus, Oriq Overlord seems really cool. First sorcery in the command zone.

Thinking you build mardu token swarm deck and just spam that sorcery.

wow, Baleful Domain is sick! Usually meaningless alternative cost to let whoever is the furthest behind draw a card, and the CMC has a little bit of play. And instant thank heavens.

Queue a pile a new, repetitive decks on this theme before people get bored of it. Can it get competitive?

the legends have such overlap it's gonna be ages before I can think of all these creatures as being separate from each other. Something about the word copy makes text boxes opaque to me, so this is like the ultimate handwavy Izzet set

Naw, definitely not CEDH quality I don't think but it can certainly be very strong.

Ok, we really need to talk about Wandering Archaic. This card is nuts. I want to point out that you can essentially "cycle" this for 3. This is good for decks that can cheat it into play. For 5 at colorless this card has INSANE applications and I can see it getting slotted into lots of different kinds of decks.

Taxing spot removal or counterspells is just a broken thing to do especially when that tax is 2. It can also be insanely political if you team up with someone since all of your spot removal is now effectively doubled.

Taxing land ramp spells is also pretty juicy if you can get this out early enough. Your opponents will either not be able to ramp or you will keep pace with them. Combo and control decks will lose their early draw and tutors.

The thing keeping this from being completely overpowered is that it is a 5cmc creature with no real built in evasion, but if you can keep it in play and get it out early it is going to really swing the game in your favor. Thoughts?

Meet Wandering Kozilek, the Baby Distortion. I'm sort of enamored with the idea that the Eldrazi Titans, as avatars of entropy, can be killed only to later be reborn. But on a serious note, the card is definitely strong, though I don't know what deck I would currently put it into. I'm intrigued by the possibilities though and will be looking for a home for it.

  • Welp, my prediction of 'magecraft = landfall' is confirmed, since we got a Steppe Lynx in Clever Lumimancer.
  • Rootha, Mercurial Artist is fine, but generally outclassed by actual copy effects.
  • Baleful Domain is an efficient exile effect with some political implications. Hard to say how valuable exile is, but definitely looks solid.
  • Extus, Oriq Overlord is very interesting. A bunch of recursion on one side, a sac outlet / threat on the other. Cost reduction is fun with the flip side, as others have pointed out. You can also recur it with Raise Dead effects, which is nice - those colors generally don't have a ton of sorcery recursion.
  • Tanazir Quandrix is meh.
  • Galazeth Prismari looks sweet. Not super powerful, but it does tie together Prismari's spellslinger // treasure theme. I assume there's something silly you can do with it.
  • Wandering Archaic looks like a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of effects that let you play with your opponents' stuff, and copying all their instants / sorceries seems sweet. Or they can pay the , I guess. The flip side seems pretty underwhelming, but worth consideration if you really need to hit a land drop. And, as pointed out, copying removal spells seems like a really strong political play.
  • Solve the Equation is fine. I feel like fetching an instant / sorcery is a little less valuable than fetching an artifact with Fabricate, but it really depends on the deck. Three mana is roughly what I value tutoring at, so this certainly seems like it will see a lot of play.
  • Creative Outburst continues the Fire // Ice / Electrolyze / Ral's Outburst / Prophetic Bolt chain.
  • Expression Rehearsal is.... very interesting. It's like a two mana draw two, with a bit of filtering. Seems good.
  • (also, I totally missed Magma Opus' pun title)

Am I alone in thinking Multiple Choice is quite strong? That amount of flexibility in CMC and mode, at hardly any premium.

Is it underwhelming, though? It says "land card and/or an instant or sorcery card". If the spell you nab is a ramp or draw spell, you can seriously make for an explosive opening. The drawback is that everybody else gets to do the same, but isn't everbody getting to play their cards the very essence of Commander?
