So, to cut it short, I want to make an ability that taps for mana and also gives an additional effect. What's the best way to do this so things don't break?
: Add . When you do, untap a creature you control with power 2 or less.
: Add . When you do, tap target creature.
: Add . When you do, each player loses 1 life.
: Add . When you do, you may pay and remove all level counters from ~. If you do, it deals 3 damage to any target.
: Add . When you do, you gain 1 life.
: Add . If you control four or more lands named Wastes, add instead.
Now, I am pretty sure that are all fine and work correctly.

However, I am not sure on and . Is the reflexive trigger enough to have the mana added before the trigger goes on the stack, or do I need to fundamentally re-work these abilities? I know for I can easily just use the "choose" formatting, but that has the unintended effect of bypassing Shroud and Hexproof.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

A mana ability cannot target.

Yes, I know that. I was asking if reflexive triggers can still target without affecting the mana portion.

In any case, it's a moot point as I have switched to a Forbidden Orchard style wording where the two abilities are independent.
