OOC: @RaikouRider I think you might have forgotten that it takes 2 to use a clue, since you already expended 2W between your spell and the scales. Also, my post will come tomorrow morning.

EDIT: I'll just go ahead and judge without including the clue bonus and without giving a total, and @Mookie can sort it out.

---

Flavor: 2.5. Short enough that it looks pretty naked without flavor text.
Design: 2.5. Cool -- Seal of Pay No Heed. This very much suffers from the Seal problem of being an onboard trick, but it's still a fun design.
Development: 2. Unless you're getting a bunch of value off of threat of activation (i.e., your opponent isn't playing well), this is pretty weak. It costs one mana more than Pay No Heed and it can't be cast at instant speed so everyone knows about it. Obviously the ability to pay 0 on the turn you need it is nice, but it's not like the 1 mana for Pay No Heed was breaking the bank, and that's not a great card to begin with.
Luck: 6
Bonus: +1

Reckless might as well be Goreteg's middle name. He can feel the roil rising from beneath him, just like his anger at the monstrosity before them. He has experienced the roil many times before, but never like this, never with the full force of Zendikar behind it. The stones of this land were not made to rest quietly, and neither was Goreteg. As the roil grows nearer power surges through him, and, lowering his horns, he charges through his own earthen barrier, slipping through it like it was no more than a waterfall.

"Stones of Zendikar, hear me!" Goreteg shouted as he ran towards Ulamog. "This thing is an abomination!" Crouching as he runs in typical minotaur fashion, he lets his hands drag along the floor, gathering material as he goes. "Rise with me to erase it from this place forever!"

Call the Roil 2RRGG
Enchantment (M)
When Call the Roil enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a land card and put it onto the battlefield. If you do, shuffle your library.
Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, put three +1/+1 counters on it. It becomes a 0/0 Elemental creature with haste and deals damage equal to its power to any target. It's still a land.

OOC: Not 100% sure what I should do about my +1/+1 counter wearing off. Do I lose 1 hp? I assume I do, but wanted to make sure.

Flavour - 3; That is the spirit!
Design - 3; The inspirations seem to be scattered around things like Omnath, Locus of Rage or cards with Awaken. but it is still a unique riff on those.
Development - 2,5; Somewhat frontloaded on resolution - ramp into any land, hasty 3/3 and Lightning Bolt - but I guess the heavy devotion makes it more sensible.
Bonus +1;
Luck 7 (3+4)
Total: 16,5

That went not as anticipated, no doubt. As the master of Illenen order once said: "poor communication kills". Thankfully, Silverpaw riders menaged themselves before they were crushed under the power of Titan. The battle may continue.

And it continues, with signs of Roil drastingly increasing. Silverpaws have their magic to shield themselves and knight is rather sure, that he spotted reinvigorated Goreteg spearheading some elementals towards Ulamog. But Illenen is not as lucky to have some mystical means of surviving the fury of Zendikar. Knowing his place and strength, he finds some rocks to hide behind during the upcoming onslaught of nature.

Take Cover
Instant (U)
Target creature gains protection from nonspell until end of turn. (It can't be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, enchanted, or equipped by anything that is not a spell.)
Adventurers know, that when faced with the Roil, the first thing is to survive. If you can't live through it, then all the fancy equipment and wards of power will be lost anyway.

The stones will not resist a direct strike from titanic fighters, but Illenen should be protected at least from all kinds of crossfires and ricochets. If only he had a shield with himself... But he has not and there is no point in daydreaming. While knight cannot participate in battle for a while, fighting alone is not the only thing done in times of need. Illenen starts to prepare the bandages, knowing that after the Roil - if allied forces hopefully deal with the eldritch threat - there will be many needing treatment.

Lorn Asbord Schutta:
Flavor: 3 - "find something to hide behind"
Design: 2.5 - a slightly exotic protection effect. That said, I'm pretty sure this should just be 'protection from permanents'.
Development: 2.5 - Yeah, this looks mostly reasonable - protects from creatures / planeswalkers / etc, but not instants or sorceries, which makes it a bit narrower. White usually gives protection from colors, but as the primary protection color, it can give protection from other things too. That said, the ability to grant protection to creatures you don't control is a little weird.
Luck: 4 (1+3)
Bonus: +1
Total: 13

Re: RaikouRider's clue - yeah, doesn't look like you have the mana available for it. As a result, not counting it, so total is 14.
Re: slimytrout's +1/+1 counter wearing off - reduce your maximum HP as appropriate, but you can keep your current HP.

Outcomes and Challenges:
(@RaikouRider, @slimytrout, @Lorn Asbord Schutta)
With a great rumbling, the Roil approaches. The earth shakes, the cavern tremors, and it is possible to sense great boulders falling from the ceiling - the chamber the battle is taking place in was already chaotic, and the entrance of a third, incredibly primeval force only adds further confusion to the conflict.

The first to respond is Ivan, who recalls a rune he saw upon entering the ruins. These ruins seem to be ancient, and mostly undisturbed by the Roil... until now. It's rather uncommon for land-bound ruins to stay in one piece for any amount of time, and it's possible that some of the runes scattered around the ruins are responsible for this irregular instability. Ivan attempts to invoke one, and is rewarded with a bright white sigil that seems to cloak the Silverpaw forces from the Roil's onslaught. It doesn't seem to offer any protection from the Eldrazi titan, but at the moment, Ivan is more concerned about Zendikar's onslaught than Ulamog's.

The next to respond is Goreteg. He is more familiar with Zendikar's nature than the Silverpaw knight, and calls upon it in an effort to channel its fury. It's always a reckless strategy to invoke the plane's fury, especially when it is incarnated so purely by the Roil. There do exist enclaves of Roilshapers that attempt to steer it, but controlling something so primal is an inherently dangerous act. However, in this case, Zendikar seems to be moving with intent, to crush the Eldrazi that dares to intrude upon its domain once again. The minotaur calls out, and the Roil responds, forming great spears of molten stone that strike at Ulamog. At first, it doesn't seem to be effective, with the rocks shattering against the Eldrazi's bone armor or being turned to chalk by its presence, but the Roil's onslaught is relentless and greatly outpaces the titan's ability to devour its mana.

This onslaught isn't without danger to the adventurers - although the bulk of the Roil's fury is directed at the Eldrazi, there is still a whirlwind of rubble and a downpour of boulders falling from the ceiling, in addition to Ulamog's tentacles continuing to attack. Illenen contributes to the battle by retreating behind cover and preparing aid for any injured by the Roil. After what seems like an eternity (but is likely only a minute or so), the Roil passes as abruptly as it arrived, leaving Illenen to take stock of the new battlefield.

Following the Roil's intervention, the cavern is changed. Massive boulders are scattered about the floor after falling from the ceiling, and cracks of light shine through in their place. A waterfall seems to be seeping through some of the cracks, while roots of great trees are reaching through other parts of the earth, as if trying to reclaim the ruins that had been hidden for so long. Below, the earth glows, and it appears that a stream of lava has found its way up.

However, the biggest change is to Ulamog. Gone is its pristine and terrifying armor - many of its tentacles have burned off and are covered in ash, and its faceless mask appears to have a crack running through it. It is clearly heavily wounded from the Roil's onslaught. However, that also speaks to the Eldrazi titan's strength - any other creature would have been annihilated before Zendikar's attack, yet the Eldrazi still lives. Heavily weakened, but it appears that one final push will be necessary to take it down for good.

Challenge: Finish off Ulamog!
Restriction: None, although it ought to incorporate some way to mitigate an Eldrazi titan's natural resilience.
Bonus: +1 if you can apply any prior experience slaying Eldrazi

Noted, I'll give a heads up when the next adventure starts. I do anticipate there being a bit of delay between the end of this one and whenever the next one begins though.

Also: bumping back next update to 2/28 due to lack of actions.

Goreteg pushes his way free of the rubble. A normal creature would have been crushed beneath the stone, but for Goreteg it was just like an extended swim. He exhales deeply, then inhales, smelling the scent of fresh earth from the cracks above. Then he regards the horrible foe before them.

Goreteg may not have fought the Eldrazi before, but he is well aware of how the titans were defeated -- every sapient being on Zendikar knows that a band of travelers was able to bind them in place and incinerate them. Goreteg has no practical means of trapping Ulamog -- even if stone bonds could hold the monstrosity, there is no way for him to get close enough to put them in place -- but when it comes to incineration he has an idea.

He steps forward to where lava is pouring out of a crack in the wall and oozing into the chasm. His fur prickles as warmth radiates over him. Now is not the time for fear, he reminds himself. Climbing up the wall, he is mere feet from the stream of lava, his eyes watering from the heat and the smell of burning hair. Ignoring it, he digs his hands into the wall, and, with a shove, closes the crack. The flow ceases and the rock face starts to glow a dull red. His hands, buried in the stone, begin to radiate with pain. He has limited time. He shifts over several meters, getting dangerously close to the horror, and takes a moment to consider the angle. Good enough, he thinks, and slams his horns into the wall, opening up a gash through which lava begins to pour, cascading mere inches over the the back of Goreteg's neck and covering the Eldrazi beneath him.

Flavor - 3: On point.
Design - 3: These kinds of abilities have never been combined before, which is a bit surprising and something red should have. I'm sure mono-red players would love being able to get ahead on cards.
Development - 2: I think this is a bit weak. I think this kind of effect costs about 2.5 mana. This should probably be any target at this cost, or 2 mana and sorcery; remember, Lightning Strike is now the gold standard for red removal.

Ulamog lurched back from Zendikar's direct attack, skyrocketing Ivan and his troops' morale. He yanked back hard on Sky's reins, causing the feline to rear into a graceful yet intimidating position. "An opening!" he cried, pointing his sword toward the ailing...alien. His sword reaching high above him, Ivan chanted a strength-enhancing spell, drawing the might of all his nearby allies into himself, Sky, and his own blade.

With the weight of the platoon on his shoulders, Ivan slammed his heels into Sky's sides. After getting a running start, the monarch of the jungle leaped high into the air, giving the rider a chance to deliver the finishing blow with a sword laden with the hope of the masses...

RaikouRider:
Flavor: 2.5 - teeeeeamwoooork
Design: 3 - a bit swingy, but seems good for a go-wide strategy.
Development: 2.5 - Sigil of the Nayan Gods mixed with Unflinching Courage. This many points of lifelink might be problematic for limited... but needing 5+ creatures means it's usually going to be trinket text.
Luck: 6 (2+4)
Total: 14

Outcomes and Challenges:
(@RaikouRider, @slimytrout, @Lorn Asbord Schutta)
Sensing weakness from the Eldrazi titan, Goreteg and Ivan unleash a final attack against Ulamog. Goreteg is the first to act, redirecting the molten stone unleashed by the Roil to engulf the Eldrazi. Ulamog seems to wither in pain from the torrent of lava - it seems that its ability to devour mana from the environment is less effective against the pure energy of the scorching earth. Soon, it is covered in ash and blazing embers, with many of its tentacles too burnt to function properly. Its mask is still expressionless, but it seems to emanate anger, rage.... and fear.

Following Goreteg's attack, Ivan follows up by directing the Silverpaw forces to bolster his might - while the Eldrazi's armor may be able to resist many individual blows, it seems like it can be shattered by a more concentrated strike. All of Ivan's fellow knights direct their magic at him and Sky, amplifying their strength many times. With a mighty leap, the pair leap towards Ulamog's head and unleash a mighty blow. As soon as his sword connects, Ivan can feel Ulamog's already scorched and weakened armor finally shattering, leaving the Titan exposed and vulnerable.

Exhausted and drained, Ulamog seems to waver. Between the combined onslaught of both the adventurers and Zendikar itself, it seems impossible for any creature to survive - not even one as great as an Eldrazi titan. However, as any adventurer knows, the most dangerous creature is always one that is cornered. This holds true even for Ulamog - with nothing left to lose and running low on energy, it unleashes one final attack.

Until now, Ulamog has been silent - with no face, the only sounds coming from it have been the enraged swishes of its tentacles and swipes of its arms. But now, with its mask shattered, the adventurers feel like they can see something where its mouth would be - as they gaze towards it, they can feel their eyes stinging, as if they are viewing something that should not be witnessed. It almost feels as if all along, Ulamog was wearing a mask not to protect itself, but to protect others from being exposed to the otherness that it represents. However, it seems as if the Titan can no longer afford that courtesy. It unleashes what can only be described as a scream. Everyone in the chamber is momentarily stunned by the sheer volume of the noise, instinctively clutching their ears. When the ringing clears, blood can be seen coming from the burst eardrums of many of the knights' burst eardrums. However, as soon as people are once again able to act, they check on the status of Ulamog.

Collapsed. After a long and grueling fight, Ulamog has finally fallen - it lays, unmoving, at the bottom of the chasm, slowly sinking into a great sea of lava. Immediately, the survivors begin cheering and celebrating. However, this celebration is still a bit premature - it seems that Ulamog's final scream has disturbed the structural integrity of the massive chamber the fight was taking place in. Soon, a great rumbling may be heard as boulders begin falling from the ceiling - the chamber is collapsing! It seems like there is a bit of time to prepare, but you definitely won't want to stick around.

Challenge: Figure out a way to survive!
Restriction: None
Bonus: It seems that the conflict also knocked loose various treasures the cultists collected in the chamber as offerings. If you want to claim any trophies or loot from among them, this will be your last chance to do so.

Other stuff: next update tentatively planned for 3/5.

Goreteg takes a moment to savor his victory, then begins rummaging around the collected offerings looking for something good. He happily discards the journal that he'd been carrying, since it no longer seems relevant. He is unconcerned about the falling rocks, since he can't be injured by them -- in fact, they can even protect him from other dangers like lava or falling branches -- but he still doesn't feel like hanging around this place, which still reeks with the smell of death and charred flesh.

Flavor: 3 - On point.
Design: 3 - This is a really good idea for red to mass loot, since they're so good at going wide. The design isn't the issue with this card, though.
Development: 2 - This is Battle Hymn plus Valakut Awakening on a 2R sorcery. Granted both of those cards are instants, but at this cost, this feels really nutty in a token deck or any sort of go-wide strategy. Not only do you selectively get to rummage your hand away, but this can actually serve as a ritual if you have even a moderately-sized army, letting you play the new cards you draw. I don't think this is a problem for most formats, but man can this get nutty in token strategies.

Ivan breathed a big sigh of relief when the colossal alien sunk back into the depths of the magma far below the battleground. With the chamber collapsing, Ivan mustered his troops to follow him back the way he came and toward the dungeon's entrance. If this chamber was collapsing, then the rest of the ruin would come soon. He needed to get himself, Sky, and his allies out of this place, and fast! Though there were a couple foolish enough to search for treasure mid-collapse, most of them seemed to agree that getting out alive was the priority. Plus, that scary-looking grimoire he found had to fetch quite the price. That was enough of a treasure to be worth selling. First, though, he and his troops had to escape.

Flavour - 2,5; There was a room for flavour text, to be honest.
Design - 3; One shot Reconnaissance with a scry attached. It is something that white could use more often in my opinion, but it is not revolutionary. The addition of blockers to create "shadow blocks" is intresting, though.
Development - 2,5; The timing restriction makes sense for ease of rules, but I dislike those.

They did it. Zendikar - for now - was safe again. At least as safe as Zendikar could be.

The increasing calamity of stones and other forces of nature could nor be ignored. Most of the Silverpaws were already retreating, but in the chaos some were burried under stones or otherwise injured. A tragedy for them, yet Illenen was in no shape to help most of them. Dying was something that all adventurers had to take into consideration. Knight grabs few of those more shocked then immobilized, but for the rest he can only listen to their wails.

Illenen did not expect such dire circumstances after the fall of Titan. Bandages will go to waste. Knight kept walking between stones and strange baubles cultist gathered here. While most of them would be useful to get some recompensation out of this adventure, Illenen ignored them. He is searching for something that may help to understand, how those cultist managed this terrifying feat of necromancy, so that it could not be tried in future.

Lorn Asbord Schutta:
Flavor: 2.5 - search the rubble for shinies!
Design: 3 - this looks super fun. I miiiiight have a few EDH decks that want it.
Development: 2 - on the other hand, this also looks potentially broken - get enough artifacts in your graveyard, and you can Tinker into Blightsteel Colossus. Does require some substantial hoops to jump through, but... would definitely need some testing to balance.

However, there are clearly valuables lying around that were part of the ritual to resurrect Ulamog. While many of these valuables appear to be drained of mana or damaged from the conflict, some still seem to be functional. Ignoring the small boulders (which he is able to deflect with his stone horns), Goreteg decides to grab what he can. He bundles up some valuables in one of the fallen cultist's cloaks to create a Pile of Treasure before exiting the ruins as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Ivan is more concerned with the lives of his fellow Silverpaw knights than any material goods - he organizes a hasty retreat from the cavern, with the healthier knights escorting the injured. The cramped tunnels of the ruins are somewhat tricky to navigate, but the swift lions and other beasts that the knights ride are used to treacherous terrain. Fortunately, the imminent collapse also seems to have opened several holes in the ruins, making it easier to reach the outside. After reorganizing themselves and taking a breather, the knights hold a brief memorial to the fallen. Although many knights fell in the battle, those surviving unanimously agree that the battle itself was well worth the cost - if Ulamog hadn't been stopped, then not only the knight order but all of Zendikar would have been in peril once again. Ivan collects the Sigils of the Fallen - they will need to be returned to the fallen knights' next of kin at some point, but that is a task for another day.

As the Silverpaw knights make their retreat, Illenen spends a few moments to track down where the head priestess fell from. Although her remains are likely impossible to recover, it seems plausible that she left something behind. After a brief search, Illenen finds a worn Journal that he pockets before hastily following the Silverpaw knights. Now certainly isn't the time for reading, but Illenen intends to thoroughly investigate what led to this situation as soon as he returns to a safer location.

Soon after the adventurers exit the ruins, they collapse, as if Zendikar is reclaiming the land that Ulamog had corroded. The plane is safe - for now. With a bit more experience under their belts - and pockets full of treasure - our brave adventurers head off once again into the wilds of Zendikar.

Challenge: create an epilogue for your character!
Special: no card necessary this time, unless you want to represent your character with a new card representing any character development.

Closing
Welp, it's been a ride. It's been what... five months since this adventure started? I initially planned for it to wrap up by the end of last year, but like every other campaign I've ever participated in, things tend to go over schedule. :P Still, I'm definitely happy that I got to see the campaign through to the end. I'd like to thank everyone that participated - I hope y'all had fun with this! I'm currently intending to take a break of a month or so before beginning the next adventure, and will notify people when the next one starts. Definitely planning to tweak the rules a fair amount, so if you have any feedback for me (regarding the rules, narrative, or anything else), feel free to share it here or via PM.

@dangerousdice - thanks for the bump! Yeah, it has been a while since the last one ended. I was tentatively planning to start the next adventure when AFR fully released, so will probably do that soon. I do have some rules changes planned, but still need to finish fleshing those out. Will definitely give a heads up when things are ready though.
