Don't worry, The Wizard of Oz is totally famous in Italy too (in Italian it's "Il Mago di Oz"), it's just me who knew absolutely nothing about it except the title. Anyway, I always prefer to know the truth, so don't be sorry. At least I lived the dream for a few days, and it definitely helped lift me up, which is a thing I absolutely need as you know. Also, I'm not a big movie fan at all. I think I could count the movies I've seen in my whole life with just the fingers of my two hands. You'd also be amazed at how many movies people assume everybody knows that I have never seen. For example, the whole Star Trek and Star Wars series. Never seen a single one of them in my life, and the very little that I know is only by hearsay. I've only seen the first movie in the Matrix series, and the same goes for The Lord of the Rings. And there are plenty of other examples. On the contrary, I'm a pretty big music fan, even though I don't really like the two names you've mentioned. About The Beatles, I always say that I recognize their role in the history of music, but I don't like most of their songs. There are only a few that I like. That's also kinda true about Micheal Jackson. I think everybody knows that my favorite band is Linkin Park, but far from the only one I listen to... Ok, I'm sorry for the off topic.

bravelion83 I changed my card for today's voting. I just wanted to let you know because I referenced my previous card earlier, which won't make sense now that I've changed my mind. I think my Wizard of Oz card still needs some work. I think I might still post my other idea from that movie that I was referencing earlier. First I just need to check to make sure the card I thought of doesn't already exist in some form.

No problem. I also just changed the card I planned to post today... I'll post it tomorrow. Today I just have to post the new one I've literally just designed. You'll see in a few moments in the day thread.

Yes, my birthday card inspired netn10 to make the Cowardly Lion, which then inspired you to expand the cycle and me to make another card, the Loyal Leonin. Or at least, this is how I've taken it until now. I'm only discovering now with you mentioning it that the Wizard of Oz might have been the actual inspiration for the Cowardly Lion, which honestly makes me sad. I thought it was netn10's birthday gift to me... while now I understand it probably wasn't. I know absolutely nothing about the Wizard of Oz. Literally, the only thing that I know is that there is a story with that name. I've never read it, and never read or seen any derived work. I was wondering who Dorothy (from your previous post) was... And I'm sure I will not get the reference on the black card. Oh, well, I'm still choosing to believe that the Cowardly Lion was for me... Only now you've made me understand that this might have been just a huge misunderstanding due to me not knowing the source material. Well, thank you for letting me know the truth at least...
netn10, honestly, what was your actual inspiration for the Cowardly Lion? Me, something from the Wizard of Oz (that I can't know because I don't know it at all), or maybe both?
It was actually both. You are a lion so it is a birthday gift to you, and also I wish Eldraine had some Wizard of Oz inspired cards... and because it doesn't, I went out and created one :) So two birds with one stone!

By the way, I thought your name is inspired by Wizard of Oz - the story of the cowardly lion that became brave in the end.

Well, at least my dream is partly true, then... Thank you so much anyway. You know how much I appreciated your gift. And by the way, it's quite ironic, because I have "lion" in my name (including my real one, more on that in just a second...) but I actually like dogs much more than cats.
By the way, I thought your name is inspired by Wizard of Oz - the story of the cowardly lion that became brave in the end.
Absolutely not. It comes from my real first name: Leonardo (the Italian version of the English name Leonard). I don't have any problem saying that publicly, it's a very common name in Italy and even if you know that I live near Florence, there are so many just in my city that you wouldn't be able to find me knowing only that.
Anyway, back to my name. If you check the etymology of my real first name, that name comes from the Medieval Langobardic language: the "Leon" part stands for "lion" and the "Ard(o)" part means "brave, courageous", so my real first name literally means "brave lion" in English, or "leone coraggioso" in Italian. That's where the username I've been using all over the internet since my adolescence comes from. My family got an internet line for the first time in 2001, at the beginning of the year, when I was still 17 (I would have turned 18 later that year). 83 is just my year of birth. I knew absolutely nothing about the Wizard of Oz except for the title until just yesterday.

EDIT

Uhm... This has just given me an idea. Apparently, the story continues. And I will have to postpone my other card one more day...

I've gotta stop posting the thread while I'm half asleep. I didn't notice that marioguy3 had two submissions yesterday. I actually did notice that they forgot to vote in their second entry, but then I forgot to put them on probation. Anyway, I struck through marioguy's second entry, and made a note not take it into consideration while voting. I'm just going to forgo any probation of any kind and just move on. Sorry for the confusion.

RattingRots - Nice idea, but as it is you have to have both targets just in order to cast it. I would make it a modal spell:
It definitely doesn't need to be modal. Disallow and Tale's End are similar wording to mine, just wit the word "target" only used once - not sure if that's necessary for the rules or not.

Yes, the fact that you use the word "target" twice is exactly what causes unintuitive rules interactions. If you find a clear way to do it while using the word "target" only one time, that's good. That's what both the examples you mentioned do. I just thought (and still think) that making it a modal spell would have made it clearer and more elegant than "counter target instant or sorcery spell, or activated ability", which you can totally do and is probably the solution you're looking for. I wasn't saying it needed to be modal, just that it was what I personally would have done.

Flatline Shoudn't this say "October 14th"?
Supposing this is the right thread for the 14th, I'll post my card here anyway. A little more than three hours left until my temporary disconnection that I've mentioned in the MCC discussion thread. If it turns out this is the wrong thread for the 14th, I hope someone can move my post while I'm out of the internet. I don't want to come back potentially too late and discover that my card had been ignored for being in the wrong thread..
Don't worry, it's supposed to be the the thread for the 14th. It's fixed now. I guess I've gotten used to glancing at the corner my computer to check the date. That only works when I'm posting the thread after midnight. :)

Flatline - I think the ability to unmulligan yourself is OP. It's a bit frustrating because I really like the elegance of making a splashy card like this use the same text for a completely different-feeling effect. However, I think the potential to just unmulligan after you mulligan down to 5 or less is just too powerful. The main problem is that if I know I have 4 of these in my deck, especially with the new mulligan rules, I can just mulligan aggressively to try to find a really good 7 or 6 card hand, and then if I don't find it, keep mulliganing until I have a copy of Mental Refreshment in hand, then just reset to 7. It allows any deck that has this card and can afford to cycle it when it ends up in a kept hand to basically eliminate a large percentage of mediocre draws for almost no investment. It's also an example of a card where I think optimal play would lead to some boring games - I thnk it's correct even if you are down to a 3 or 2 card hand to keep mulliganing to try to find this, and that will occasionally lead to a complete non-game where you don't find it and have to play with a 1-card hand. Even if you intend this as a casual card, I think it's dangerous to do this, because casual players can start down the road of super-optimizing cards like this and the dichotomy between not wanting to play boring games versus trying to win can lead to bad experiences.
Thanks for the well thought out analysis. I don't really disagree with any of it, and all of it went through my mind when creating the card. Buuuuut, I posted it anyway. I occasionally post cards I'm not even sure I'd like to see exist. Sometimes I vote for them as well. Every once in a while, I find a design cool enough to overlook even a major flaw such as an OP power level. That's one of the many things I love about the DCC. A person can be rewarded for coming up with something really interesting, even if every t isn't dotted and every i isn't crossed.

Edit: BTW, the generic cycling was added so that blue wasn't the only color that had access to such an OP card in non-rotating 60 card formats.

Yeah, I like the aspect in general that people just get to vote for their favorite cards and there's no required criteria. I have a card idea that I'll probably post soon that is probably OP, but I basically decided I liked it that way for aesthetic reasons. I have a really tough time judging when there's a card like this that I really like, but has some flaw that I think would make it a lot less fun in practice. Obviously all of our cards are untested ideas, so none of us can really expect them to be perfect (and we probably have very little idea what most of the practical implications of these cards are just by looking at them for 30 seconds). Usually for me personally, there's a lot of great ideas and I end up choosing the more polished ones I think.
Edit: BTW, the generic cycling was added so that blue wasn't the only color that had access to such an OP card in non-rotating 60 card formats.
This is pretty interesting, I figured it was to make the card less of a boom-or-bust. Also eternal formats are all playing blue already, so nothing to worry about :P.

Don't get me wrong, I don't overlook "major flaws" when voting/posting very often at all, but occasionally I make an exception if the concept is cool enough.

I'm curious about your use of the term "polished". I don't think I would describe Mental Refreshment as "unpolished" at all. It's a completed, fully thought out, well executed card that might have a power level that isn't healthy for the game. :)

(The DCC is great because I can get other people to figure out how the rules work for me)
Well, I guess you're lucky then that there are people with a passion for the rules, and in general logic systems (which the Magic rules totally are), around here... People who could very probably be actual judges without too many problems if their personal lives allowed it... People who some time ago read the whole CR just for fun... And who were considering taking the Rules Advisor test exactly in the moment that Wizards retired it... Yes, I'm obviously talking about myself, but there are certainly more people as passionate about the rules as me around here, including actual judges.

As for your card today (Corrode), it works (you just have to remember that subtypes, like Vehicle, are always capitalized), but that last sentence is really unelegant. I understand it's meant to mimic the state-based action that puts creatures with 0 or less toughness into the graveyard, so that you can use this to kill an unanimated Vehicle, but is that specific rules interaction really worth the additional really unelegant line of text? I'm not sure. This is the reason why I gave you a HM instead of a vote today.

Well, don't worry. I'd say everyone here are friends on some level. I mean, we all have the same obscure hobby, so it simply makes sense to say that we are each happy to see each other post and to give each other well wishes.

That being said, Otactli is the third 'Eldrazi child' I've made. The three: Xodhreh, Mlaole, and Otactli, are each supposed to embody some aspect of being young, and so cast the Eldrazi in a different kind of light. Xodhreh (blue) embodies curiosity, Mlaole (black) embodies the desire to control or to win, and Otactli (green) embodies the desire to belong. They're part of a custom set I've been turning over in my head.

Though, what did you dislike about the mechanics? Anything I could improve upon?
Yes, it's true that we are all friends here, but the word "friend" has a very high meaning to me. The very few real ones I've had so far in my life could totally confirm that.

Your new take on the Eldrazi sounds very interesting to me, and made me appreciate your card, Otactli's Aspirant, much better. Sometimes it's hard to judge cards out of context. I would advise you to create new titans also for white and red though. If you take the colored route, I feel like you just have to do the whole cycle of five. Maybe the red one could embody passion, or recklessness? As a high school teacher, I've seen a lot of young people, adolescents specifically, and I can totally assure you that most (not all, luckily) of them are quite reckless this days... and restless too. Few of them seem to know what being calm and controlled is. I don't know about the white one, but I guess you could come up with something. If you feel like you need help with your custom set, I'd be glad to help for what I can do. Obviously, provided that you want it to go public. If you've seen my signature, I have a lot of stories and custom sets I'm planning (currently I'm about to finish writing the first story and I already have six more planned at various stages of development, and each story has its own custom set to go with, with one of the stories requiring two sets, I said I had big projects), but I'm keeping all of them private for now, except having casually name dropped two characters and one plane here and in the CCL relatively recently without anybody noticing, just as I wanted. So I definitely understand if you want to keep it private. Just know that if one day you want to go public and you need help, I'm here and I like your idea from what I know so far.

I think that "dislike" is too strong of a word. Let's just say there were essentially two things I would have personally done differently, even if one goes away with your explanation: the use of (even partially) colored mana for the kicker cost. I felt like, being an Eldrazi, it should have had a generic or colorless kicker cost. Yes, obviously I know that Drones are colored, but I felt like a disconnect between the generic mana cost not requiring any specific colors and then having colored symbols in the kicker cost. But your explanation totally clarifies that, and now I totally understand why the green is there. I had no clue of your idea about new colored titans. I guess this goes to show how much context is important.

The second point, the only one that still stands now, is about the Eldrazi Mutant tokens. They do not have a "sac to add mana" ability. I feel like that would be an expectation after both Spawn and Scions having it. I understand that's harder to do with the tokens as 2/2's, but maybe you could just bring back Spawn or Scions in your set instead? Also, the name/subtype Mutant reminds me too much of Emrakul's influence in SOI. I guess your new titans would behave differently, and you hinted at that in your explanation, so you might want to find a different word for the tokens. But maybe there is an explanation for this too. Again, hard to say without knowing more about the new colored titans and the context the card would be in.

Again, I really like your set idea. If you need help, you know where to find me.

Yeah, I suspect so. But then it wouldn't be as interesting, I think. It's fun specifically for the tension it provides. On one side you can search for multiple cards at a time. On the other, so can your opponent. I could also justify dropping the search cost to because it's symmetric, but then I imagine the card would be too aggressively costed.

I have plans for red and white. Those two colors will share a titan: Vhedrasa. It won't be a child Eldrazi either, but an Elder Eldrazi (Elder-azi?). The idea being that Vhedrasa has been trapped for a long time on this one particular plane, held there and kept in check by a seemingly immortal planeswalker. However, the seal the planeswalker kept over the plane has recently weakened, allowing Vhedrasa to call out to the blind eternities for help, and this call is what brought Xodhreh, Mloale, and Otactli to the plane. I'll probably be making a "preview post" for the set in the custom card forum in the next couple of days.

I am interested in the plots or worlds you have in mind for your custom sets, so I look forward to when you share them, if you decide to do so.

Also, technically the titans will still be coloress, but their brood lineage will be associated with those particular colors. Though, I think the idea of mono-hybrid mana lends itself perfectly to the Eldrazi, because it makes sense that something costing mono-hybrid mana might have devoid. I'm honestly amazed that it hasn't been done yet.

As for the token type, I was trying to decide what sort of token Otactli should make: 0/1 Spawns, 1/1 Scions, or 3/2 Horrors. However, I then noticed that each set/block the Eldrazi have appeared in so far has presented them producing a different kind of 'swarm' token. 0/1 Spawns were in Rise of the Eldrazi. 1/1 Scions were in Battle for Zendikar block. 3/2 Horrors were in Eldritch Moon. So, I figured it would be best to continue the pattern and come up with a new kind of Eldrazi token: 2/2 Mutants with vigilance. Though, because of the vigilance, I'm gonna have to restrict token production to green and white, for the most part.

Looking at it again, I think the more elegant way to do this would be:

Corrosion 1RB
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature or Vehicle
Enchanted permanent gets -3/-3.

I totally agree (black should come before red in the mana cost though). A noncreature Vehicle with 0 toughness wouldn't be put into the graveyard immediately as a state-based action, but it will the next time it becomes a creature, so your opponent will have to choose between having an uncrewable Vehicle or a dead Vehicle, so from your point of view it will be like having killed the Vehicle anyway. I think this version of the card would have gotten my vote.

All of that sounds really interesting. I might want to keep an eye on the general custom card forum too in these days, which is a thing I rarely do, so I will have to remember to do that...

Using monocolored hybrid and different tokens are both ideas that really make sense. I had completely forgotten about the Eldrazi Horror tokens from SOI already not having a mana ability, and that essentially addresses the second point I raised. Good. Can't wait to learn more about this set because it keeps looking very interesting to me.
I am interested in the plots or worlds you have in mind for your custom sets, so I look forward to when you share them, if you decide to do so.
I'm just about to finish writing the first story: I only have two chapters out of 20 that are about halfway and that I have to finish, but the rest of the story is complete. It's very long, like about a thousand pages long as I have it formatted now in Word, and might easily reach 1100 by the time it's totally completed (the other stories will be shorter, or at least I expect them to be). I might change the formatting later to reduce the number of pages, but that won't change the fact that it will be very long anyway. That's the very big project I've kept referring to in these last months. I started writing it in March of this year, but I've been toying with the story in my mind for a couple years before that, and the very first idea was one of the characters (the main protagonist of this first story, of course) who I thought about back in 2013. I have about 150 cards already made for that first set, and I know the mechanics that I want to use for that first one (one returning mechanic that has already been in real Magic and two new custom mechanics that I've made).

I feel like it's better if I don't say anything more specific about the stories and sets for now because it would definitely be a spoiler if and when I decide to make them public. For now I'll say this: there is something linking all the stories (and consequently the sets) together. What I feel I can do for now is pointing out the cards and characters that I've posted so far that are from those stories and sets. That's exactly what I'll be doing for the rest of this post. If you prefer not to know anything in the case I will eventually decide to make my work public, stop reading here and do not open the following spoiler.

The first one that comes to mind, becomes it's the most recent, is the idea of green vampires that I've used in the first round of this month's CCL, though it's from the sixth story (and seventh set), so it will be a long time before I get to that. That plane is indeed called Makwag (one of the names I've casually dropped without anybody noticing), there are vampires there and they do exactly what I've written in the flavor text of that card. That's what makes them green and sets them apart from vampires of other planes, both existing for real and custom ones of mine. Kinda like white vampires is an Ixalan-only thing. This was the card (which I will almost certainly tweak when I finally get to that story and set, but the flavor text is what I'm pointing out here):

On the plane of Makwag, vampires don't feed on blood but on lymph. That means that humans aren't their only food source, but also all kinds of plants and animals. They're still able to feed on humans occasionally though... After all, humans also have lymph in addition to blood!
2/2
Then there are two characters. One is Zasla, a human female planeswalker thief with a bold character and with past ties to Dack Fayden. She's a character from the third story, the one that will necessarily require two sets to go with it. The card is supposed to go in one of those two sets. This was the card:

The other character is Jeff Lionheart, the one that you might have read about in my talk with Blydden (aka Syr Bly) in this month's MCC Judge Signup Thread. Me adding, for this month, Syr Lionheart to my custom title also comes from that conversation. I've used Jeff back in July and August 2015 for the MCC.

I am going to reprise Jeff in the next story that I write, the second one, in which a whole chapter (chapter 2 in my current plan) will be his own backstory, which will stay essentially the same as the one I've written for those two MCC months with maybe just a few minor adjustments, mainly depending on what will happen in Theros Beyond Death, as he's from Theros. I will turn him into a regular character in most of the other stories. If you want to learn more about him, just check the link in my signature (in the "my projects" spoiler), from where you can get to the Blogger post where I've reposted his backstory to save it from potentially being lost in the transition from Salvation to Nexus. Please note that I know absolutely nothing about storytelling theory, I just let my own instinct and imagination drive me as I write, but I feel that I've gotten quite better as a writer after writing a thousand pages long story, so don't take Jeff's backstory as written there as a sign of my own current skills as a writer, I'm still far from a professional but I do think I've gotten better since then.

In almost all the rounds in those MCCs I've designed custom cards for Jeff at different points of his life, but I plan to design new cards for him in the sets he will appear in instead of reusing those. Those cards (the only ones that I've made renders complete with art for now, but apparently I can't attach them all here for some reason, maybe five are too many, so I've linked to them in my own Google Drive, I hope that's allowed) are in the following spoiler:

Then his inner search brings him back to his home plane of Theros, where he discovers he's a descendant of a previous Champion of Heliod thanks to Lanathos. Then Jeff meets Ajani in the period while he's trying to convince the citizens of the plane to not believe in their gods anymore as revenge for Heliod killing Elspeth (one of the things I might have to change depending on Theros Beyond Death, even if I don't really want to change it). Ajani convinces Jeff that his true purpose is not on Theros, but wondering the planes in search of people to help. Essentially what he was already doing before coming back to Theros, and what he goes back to do now. Searching for a plane with people in need to help will be exactly what brings him to the custom plane that my second story will be set on, where there are a lot of oppressed people to help, and he will try to help them. Who knows if he will be successful? (Obviously I do, but I'm not telling here now because it would be a huge spoiler).
I think this is everything that I've publicly said about my own stories and sets so far. I guess we'll see what more I will share in the future.

RattingRots: Does Turned Into a Teapot work? Can a card have no types? The Comprehensive Rules glossary says "Except for abilities on the stack, each object has a card type," but that's not the actual rulebook so I'm not sure. Still, would probably be safer to say:

Enchant creature or artifact
Enchanted creature or artifact is an artifact. (It's no longer any other types.)

Obviously changes the functionality somewhat, but since I'm not convinced the original functionality is allowed, that might be necessary. Not sure about the "can't become a creature" functionality, which does matter but also makes me nervous about rules problems.

It is strictly possible - look at the Neurok Transmuter/March of the Machines interaction. I wouldn't advise actually doing something that is usually only the result of a strange "combo" as the printed effect of a card, however, and turning into an ability-less artifact is more flavorful.

You guys are both right. I did want to be able to hit manlands with this; I believe slimytrouts version allows you to do that, you just have to wait until they activate it. Overall I'd say it's a better version than mine.

This is just way too good. If you average the effects, the net effect is somewhere between Bitterblossom and Phyrexian Arena. I think this is especially problematic because it's powerful enough that people who don't like "feel-bad" random effects will still play it.
Yeah, my card is most likely too pushed. I messed around with the token creating mode a lot in an effort to tone it down. The other option I had in mind was "Up to one target creature you control gets +1/+0 and gains first strike until end of turn," but even then it's probably too good. I think it would be ok as is at 1rr. No? On a side note, the card was inspired by Outlaws' Merriment, which I had in my draft deck last night,

I think rithaniel and I should only be getting +4 points, because netn10 accidentally had a duplicated submission.
Second time this month! I've really gotta start checking the current day's posts before posting the next day's thread. Thanks for letting me know. BTW, the scoring change also adds a point to bravelion's total.

Out of curiosity, is a text version of a card required for the DCC? The cards I make are always through MSE, so personally it's a lot more convenient to post images from there rather than writing out the whole thing. Thanks!

Generally text versions are heavily suggested for contests. Loading images can be a pain on certain platforms or in certain situations (mobile data), and sometimes image links break.
Psst, check the second page of Custom Card Contests & Games! Because of the daily contests, a lot of games fall down to there.
