Aegar, the Freezing Flame

Most decks I found online are spellslingers, which is understandable, though is it possible to create a Voltron style Aegar where combat/creature damage is emphasized? Aegar's ability triggers on giant/wizard damage source, which include combat damage, even Tims such as Cinder Seer and Irencrag Pyromancer would work, extra so with damage doublers.

Benefit of going Voltron:

1) Both red and blue have affinity for artifacts.
2a) Powerful attackers forces opponent to block, where excessive damage would trigger Aegar.
2b) Consistent and repeatable damage/draw source via creature attack.
3) If you uses Fight mechanic such as Go for Blood, excessive damage also triggers Aegar, and your creature will survive better due to equipments.
4a) Some equipments protest creatures from global damage, such as Sword of Fire and Ice and Hammer of Nazahn.
4b) Some equipments work well with Tims, such as Thornbite Staff.

It's only a sprouting idea, but I want to explore its possibilities. I will continue to update list of cards as I go.

When it comes combat they need to either block or be blocked to get the draw.
Alluring Siren, Trove of Temptation are cards that specifically creatures must attack you.
Invasion Plans also is great setup attacking opponents and killing creatures while getting the card draw.
Courtly Provocateur, Grand Melee also set up bad blocks.
Bident of Thassa is one that allows opponents to attack into not you potentially but it also has the upside of punishing opponents not blocking you.

The thing with Tims is that because they only deal in 1 dmg increments applying excess damage requires another source of damage to put it over the top. So it doesn't matter if you have a hundred Tims you'll never be able to get the draw without other enablers.
Gratuitous Violence, Furnace of Rath, Torbran, Thane of Red Fell are examples that can allow for potential excess damage with Tims.
You could possibly go all in on the Prodigal Sorcerer variety for a partial meme deck.
Going even deeper there is Titan of Eternal Fire and a lot of Wizards are Humans. For example if you run the Mages (Trinket Mage, etc) then do a count to see if might be worth it.

Warstorm Surge for the fight club.

Also, because the excess damage does not need to come from the GWS source, Tims and Tim effects can be used to deal 1 damage to something about to take excess damage; so that when it does, it will have "taken damage from a GWS source." To this, things like Dizzying Gaze can help ping something about to die from whatever damage source. Also, things like Wojek Embermage that deal 1 damage to multiple targets can be used early in a turn, so that if any of those creatures die due to excess damage later in the turn you will still trigger Aegar. Nin, the Pain Artist seems like the ultimate Tim for this kind of deck.

Other support cards to consider include:
Angel's Trumpet - Attack with Vigilance Tims and still get to use their ability. Also incentivizes opponent's into attacking
Dolmen Gate - A way to protect your attacking Tims
Fool's Demise - A way to return your things that die incidentally to area damage, or borrow things you ping to death anyway.

Curiosoty can be cute with our Tims.

Make sure you have a way to make a Tim do more than one damage to get the cantrip.

Oh yes, I forgot the part where I can force them to attack, then kill-block them. :D

Yes, which is why I didn't list the usual "Tims" outside of the more useful ones like Niv. Though, as Treamayne pointed out before that as long as the permanent died with excessive damage, we can still draw with that one damage from Tim. That's extra work though, so needs to balance it out.

If I do go further on Tim, granting them Deathtouch via equipment would also be ideal, but that'd defeat the purpose of using Aegar unfortunately.

Good point, I forgot that the excess damage can be from anywhere. Will Wojek Embermage finally see daylight?

Splendid ideas on making combat even more viable for this deck.

Curiosity et al would certain be a great secondary wincon/draw. There's also Quicksilver Dagger when all things fail.
