So, as a way to spend some time and foster community interaction, I have a few ideas I would like to try out. The first is Group Think - a community built deck (I suggest if others want to do similar, future threads can be named "Group Think: <General>"). It may work, or it may not; but lets see where we go with it. I'll build this deck on MTGO and try to play it on a future MTGO Nexus Night.

Rules:
  • No one person can put forth more than one card in any 24 hr period.
  • We'll overshoot the deck size (Hoping for about 110-120 nominations) and also community source the cuts down to 99
  • Because I am building on MTGO, if a card is not available on the client, I will let you know and you can change your nomination
(If you are unfamiliar, the client has almost everything since Mirage, and a lot that comes before Mirage - but not many of the more interesting Conspiracy/BattleBond cards like Fan Favorite)
  • We'll nominate by category, saving lands for last (so they can be informed nominations based on what the deck looks like so far)
  • I'll start with one card in each category (except lands, see below), and those will be the only cards I choose myself (they can still be nominated for cuts)
  • When we get to cuts, people will nominate a card to cut, and if it receives 5 votes within 24 hours, it's gone (until we are at 99)
  • When cutting, you may post 1 nomination and 1 vote each day (they do not have to be the same post - but you can edit until I tally that day's votes)
  • I reserve the right to amend these rules based on actual participation, since this is the first attempt there will be growing pains
The Deck:

I am looking to make a casual (6ish on the common scale) deck with the following characteristics:
  • General, as above - O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami
  • Mid-range to Stompy Archetype (Possible Voltron back-up plan)
  • No Mass Land destruction, unless it replaces with basics
  • No Annihilator, Mindslaver effects, or Magister Effects (unless they set life based on starting life - e.g. Torgaar is okay, Magister Sphinx is not)
  • Minimum Basic count will be 4 each (Starting at 5 each - that fills my "Land" nomination)
  • Combos must be 4 cards or more and interactive
  • Categories will be:
    Creatures (until we get 25-35)
Non-Creature Permanents (Until we get 20-25)
    Spells (until we get 15-25)
    Lands (until we get 20-25)

As always, feedback comments and ideas are welcome and appreciated. Mods, please let me know if you think this should be moved to the Decklists sub-forum (now or after we finish the "game")

We will need mana fixing. While boring, I'll nominate Sakura-Tribe Elder. If we have respectable fixing that will allow us to get greedy with the threats later on.

Alluring Siren was the first creature that came to mind.

Courtly Provocateur to work with O-Kagachi's ability and to be able to force some utility creatures to block and die.

Faeburrow Elder to further the mana fixing, while also offering the possibility of aggro/stompy.

Norritt, because it works with O-Kagachi and it's not a card people are generally familiar with.

If ever there was a deck where Brutal Hordechief might shine, I think this is the one.

No Norritt on the MTGO Client, unfortunately. That would have been awesome.

That's a bit deflating. :pensive:
I do actually own a few Norritt and O-Kagachi, so maybe I need to look into drilling into this on paper.

I'm guessing this means it's too much to ask for Nettling Imp to be on MTGO either?

EDIT: I commented again out of habit, as I just realized I'm not supposed to nominate more than one card in a 24-hr period. If you feel inclined to let me know if Nettling Imp is in MTGO then that's fine. I'll wait until later to nominate another card.

Trove of Temptation - This card made me build O-Kagachi. Treasure-ramp, and you have to prompt my furious vengeance, have no creatures, or destroy Trove? Yes.

Please hold that thought. But you may still nominate a creature.

Whoops, my bad.

Okay, a creature:

Skyline Despot: It'll encourage people to attack you. If you they don't, you punish them with more dragons and card draw.

Lots of Monarch cards could fit here, too.

Notion Thief as a random surprise, because I don't like other people drawing extra cards. >_<

We are leaning hard into this forced attack route...

I do like @Sinis 's idea of Monarch though, so I'll add in Queen Marchesa (Long may she reign). She'll give us that monarch path as well.

Other Marchesa could be good as well, in order to re-use our ramp and utility creatures, perhaps?

Selfless Squire fits the force-attack theme and translates a big attack into a win.
